Hello,

As of today after the patch I've had problem logging into my guild hall. It says and error occured while requesting bytes of memory. The number is never consistant sometimes its very high and sometimes its low. I can log into other places that are NOT my guild hall but seeing as how most of my characters are in the guild hall this is very frustraiting for me

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thank you

#111207-001947 is the reference number.

I should note that the game runs fine on my laptop, i loaded the guild hall... a bit slow but it loaded none the less. Thank you for looking into this

The crashes now seem random on the laptop and the PC. I crashed zoning into sundere frontier but not Qeynos or any of its little towns. Same error on both machines.

Out of memory client crash in "New Freeport"...first time in years and years. Possibly just because of the HUGE number of PCs there. Seems ok elsewhere <shrugs>.

Please open support tickets and include your DXDIAG/MSINFO files. Feel free to post the incident numbers right here when you do so I can review.

In the meantime lets just make sure DX9 is up to date.

Please download and run the file linked in the article below. This is a self-extracting executable file that will prompt you to select a folder for extraction. Create a folder on your desktop and direct it to that folder. Once complete, open that folder and run the DXSETUP file to start the actual update itself.

[DX9] June 2010

Just chiming in to say that I have the exact same problem as the OP.

The only workaround I've found is to set the game graphics to "extreme performance" near the GH - that may provide temporary playability (while still being annoying though ).

Ticket with dxdiag data has been submitted.

This is Calily, posted above. I have put my issues in a separate thread with my dxdiag and my msinfo, as well as sent it in as a ticket.

I discovered that I have no issues outside of Freeport. I was able to get a character into the Frostfell instance, no crashing. I played another toon that was already parked into a player house inside Neriak and didn't have a crash all night. It only crashes when I am cruising a character around Freeport.

I've had a similar issue in Neriak, but rather than a fatal error followed by a crash, in Neriak I get a ran out of memory window and the game locks up, visual and sound, and I have to X out of the game or close it with task manager.

Well, I am seeing this problem once again. I just crashed for the 3rd time going into my house with like 7 critical errors related to out of memory. I run Windows XP Home/SP3 with 1.5GB of physical RAM and a NVidia 6800GT Video card which I believe has 256mb of RAM. I'll try killing the LaunchPad manually before leaving the Character select screen and see what happens. 2GB physical RAM is the most my system can support.. Blah.. thought after I went from 1Gig to 1.5Gig that would have been the end of it.

Having the same kind of problems of memory allocation errors. I never had them before the update. I had to move from the 2nd highest graphics setting to extreme performance to get out of my guild hall. Until I made that change the game would crash within second of materializing in the hall. Then everything was OK for about an hour. Running Windows 7 with 2 Gig of memory, core 2 duo processor, Nvidia 8800 GTX graphics card.

Your problem is you only have 2GB of RAM and since the patch the memory consumption of EQ2 which has always been bad has been exacerbated. It's almost like the more video you load the higher memory consumption but it never releases it, all the way to 2GB.

Mysstie

I can't even log into the game now without the out of memory errors.. that's even after manually closing the LaunchPad before leaving character select after I rebooted the system to make sure I freed up as much system resources I could. I sent in a petition to get Mysstie moved out. Think I'll try to load an alt and set graphics to extreme performance and see what happens. This morning's hotfix seems to have made matters worse. Yesterday I was able to get into my house numerous times.

Well.. I sent in a petition to get Mysstie moved out of her house which didn't take long to happen. On their suggestion I deleted the cache, assetcache, and logincache-us directories and did a complete game asset scan. Once in game I set the graphics settings to Extreme Performance and was able to zone into my house. I packed away some firework launchers and moved one of my plushies to another house. I then set my graphics back to their normal settings and was able to zone into my house still. So, perhaps a combination of the above steps fixed the problem for now. But yeah, I know I need a new computer.. this game is out-growing mine. Most I can do to mine is go from 1.5 to 2.0Gig of RAM which is the maximum this motherboard will support. Maybe placing the Tradeskill Apprentice and Mannequin sent it over the edge LOL.

I am having the same problem. Within seconds of zoning into the game, camped in t3 guild hall, I start getting numerous out of memory errors. after the xpac date I was fine until I zoned into freeport and since then I cant stay in game long at all without the errors and now I cant even get into the game.

Windows Vista Home 32

Quad Core

4gig physical memory

Nvidia gforce 8800gt 640mg

I even went as far as reformatting my system, reinstalling everything fresh inclusing drivers etc,. The only thing that did was make the launcher take a very very long time to load and I still get the mem errors as soon as I come into game.

I still have this issue even running in windowed mode.

WinXP Sp3. 32bit - 1GB 560GTX + 4GB RAM (means, it uses ~3GB) - im playing at 2560x Resolution and before the patch i hadnt any issues - now when i take 2-3 screenshots in game the game already crashes. The memory management has gotten for the worse again in this patch.

I mean, its bad enough that such an old game cannot run top notch on recent hardware because they programmed it to be cpu bound (instead of letting the graphics card do their job) - now the client programmers make it even worse by not being able to utilize the memory correctly - seriously this is a real disgrace - the developer responsible for this mess should be ashamed - this is coming from a fellow c++ server/client developer.

OK thanks, and what about processor speed / video cards? Are there min and recommended specs for those? EQ2 still cannot use multiple cores right?

Also, this may be a silly question, but did everyone who's having these problems buy the expansion? I keep trying to figure out why I was able to raid the day after the expansion and started having problems afterwards, and I keep coming back to the fact that I bought the expansion in the middle of the raid. It makes me wonder if the game would work again if the expansion was taken away from me. I have a second account that doesn't have it, I guess I'll test that theory tonight.

I am getting the same problems that everyone is having, as is my wife. Every time we zone, there is a pause, the screen goes white, and then recovers. Sometimes, the screen does not recover and we are facd with the application crash. I also have this problem. Very frustrating. I have not changed anything excepts I downloaded the mandatory GU 62 stuff and poof. I cant play for longer than 10 minutes it seems. Before I get that ran out of memory error. EQ2 is going to have to shut down. Hell if I cant play I sure as hell dont want to pay for it.

Requirements havent gone up but the size of the assets have. You can limit memory usage by lowering your settings down further like with Advanced display option, under performance, Graphics Resolution slider. Lower the texture resolutions as well.

Your other option is to allow EQ2 to consume more than 2GB of memory or upgrade to a 64bit OS.

Deadcrickets2 made a great post about this that I stickied for him - http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=506883

I found a facepalm solution.

Tech support had me go into display settings to disable shader 3.0. I reported back to them that shader 3.0 was already disabled. HOWEVER, in going into the "advanced" settings, something I've not gone into for a couple of years since a new vid card previously to the current vid card, I found that the game had reset my display settings.

Normally my "custom" settting is some things on medium, some thing on high, shadows and bloom off. (Bloom gives me a headache.) I swear, I haven't been in those settings for a couple of years. I like med/high on my rig, I get good performance with it and the graphics are nice enough.

Looking at my settings today, I discovered they still say "custom" but every darn setting was reset to maximum!!!

I don't know if the game automatically reset my settings when I installed a new vid card last spring or if this happened in one of the updates. I've had memory crash issues lately in Neriak and with the New Freeport, I've been crashing within 5 minutes.

I've reset my "custom" settings back to my normal med/high settings. I have not crashed in Freeport since.

The context may be confusing you.

Windows 32bit only allows an application, like EQII, to consume up to 2GB of virtual memory. Lets say it did that and is consuming 2GB of virtual memory. Some of that memory is addressed to actual physical system RAM or video RAM, some of it is paged out, and so on. Virtual memory is not synonymous with pagefile, though a pagefile is a form of virtual memory it is not the only source of it.

The way I describe it, which is just a different term for the same thing, would be total addressable memory space. He is using the word virtual memory which is still 100% accurate.

The posted info on the 3GB fix is confusing because the MS article itself says 'virtual memory.' However, the /3GB switch actually affects physical and virtual memory. With that switch set, all programs have 1GB more physical RAM to use before needing any virtual memory.

-= Therendil =-

Here's my question...why is a 7 year old game having such memory issues. On EQ1, I can run 4 different clients at the same time with little stutter (unless in the guild lobby). On WoW, I was able to run 2 to 3 instances at once with no issues. I can even run 2 instances of Rift at the same time with no issues. (This is while having a web window up, and usually music playing also). Why does EQ2 crash my system due to Out of Memory issues when trying to play on anything above balanced? (And, even there, once in a while). Trying to play at max settings, or even Better Quality (one step up from Balanced), crashes me within 20 mins. Why?

I had a reply posted on a diff website trying to help others with this and realized it was a decent summary of all the things one can try if they are still having memory crashing problems...

Re: Game crashes

I had the same memory crashing errors since the AoD launch. There is a lengthy post with other folks about it on the Performance Support forums. I ended up trying many many things and will list here what I tried. I do not know what individual benefits each of these offer, I only know that I can now play a reasonably long time after having tried all these things. I would just try things one at a time, easier things then harder until you see some improvement. #1 - added the following line to my eq2.ini file, and/or type the command into the chat window first thing when loading into the game: /force_low_mem_mode 1 #2 - added the /3GB switch for Windows XP as described in the performance support forum (the post includes a recommendation for Windows Vista as well as XP.) http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=506883 #3 - (hated this one) removed and reinstalled EverQuest II (saved my UI files and such though) #4 - removed all video drivers, used "Driver Cleaner Pro" to remove any left over bits, and installed most current video driver available #5 - (hated this one even more) deleted/removed all UI files and let default ones load in #6 - lowered all video settings, and I mean everything bottomed out. This goes beyond just the "Extreme Performance" settings to where you go through and slide everything to the left, uncheck all the boxes, etc... Once I got into the game reliably for a while, I would then make important improvements one at a time and see if I survived them. "Important" improvements for me were settings that affected how far away harvest nodes would appear, mobs would appear, and particle effects would appear for finding certain things. (For example finding where to place listening devices in the FrostFell special zone is impossible if you don't have particles turned on because the sprinkly lights don't appear at all and you have no idea where to put the devices otherwise.) This is an ongoing step as I have to ramp things back down if going back to Freeport for example. #7 - prayed and made a sacrifice to the gods of gaming. BTW - my system is older than EQII itself. It is from spring of 2004, has had 1 hard drive added, and the video card replaced. I run Windows XP on a Pentium 4, 2.40 GHz CPU, with 1.00 GB RAM, with an ATI Radeon 9550 / x1050 video card with 256 MB of memory. (This screamed in 2004 and now putters along.) This system is less than what is listed as recommended specs for the game, but is more than the listed minimum specs. I submitted a support ticket and spoke with Tech Support on the phone. We closed the ticket after agreeing that I've tried everything user oriented that is known/recommended at this time. (NOTE: the /3GB is *not* recommended, but offered.) I just wish I had the money for a new system or at least more memory as I think that would probably improve or resolve my issue.... (Side note: Anyone running a machine *worse* than mine successfully?)

Just want to help if possible. Hopefully most folks aren't having this issue anymore

I'm Having the prob trying to get to my toons that are in my GH. No probs with the one NOT in my GH. But I do notice way more lag and lower fps since this issue started.

As a solution, Can we just have All toons, camped in GH's, spawned at TS docks on the next hotfix? Like when we are in a seasonal zone, and it's no longer available.

Also, Are we still posting dxdiag's and doing tickets? If so I can do one too.

Greggor: I have one system left with 1GB RAM and I no longer try to run EQ2 on it. Based on direct experience, it is my opinion that you just cannot run EQ2 reliably in 1GB RAM. Remember that video cards try to take system RAM equal to video RAM for buffers. In any case, the limited RAM forces massive vitual memory disk activity, and it has always been at times of extreme paging that I have gotten crashes on systems with limited RAM.

If you can upgrade RAM to 2GB, it could put you back in the game. 4BG would be better. The system otherwise should be okay.

I was having the same issue I deleted re-installed, did all that. Still crashed with mem error.
From time to time, I'll hang while zoning and a restart is the only way to resolve the issue. It's happened in the past but more so after the last update.

I'm getting really tired of these lame solutions that dont work. It seems TSR is just trying to come up with different things to pacify us until they actually figure out what is wrong.

I have tried all the solutions. I even re-formatted my computer, reinstalled everything fresh with updated drivers and downloaded and installed a fresh version of EQ2 and still, everytime I zone into a T3 guild hall I get the memory issues. This started happening the day the expac came out.

This was a problem before a long time ago, maybe 4 years ago and it was the same round and round with tech support until soe finally actually fixed the problem.
I guess I will add my problems to the already full pot here.

I am also having the same Critical Memory error problems that have been mentioned numerous times in this thread. All of these have started occuring since the newest Game Update. This only happens to me in Freeport though.

Now, this morning, I can't zone into any zones (exception: Guild Hall) without locking up tight. I am having to do a CTL,ALT,DEL just to get out of the game.

Do I need to do a /petition and inclue my DXDiag log file ? Some help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Rifkind Britemoon

Freeport Server

can add me to the list as well, started today. Did everything i could think of to no avail. Always seems to be a nasty memory issue whenever there is a GU or expac, I was in beta for AOD and did some feedback on it (revamped Freeport issues) but its still there it seems. Ticket number is 120101-000560

Just make a backup copy/paste of it, run the LAA patcher then launch the game via the main executeable.

I'm having these same issues as well. Prior to AoD, I was having next to no issues, then afterwards, I've been able to log a few times after the server switch, then I had to be offline for two weeks, and now I can't even get two minutes in without a crash or a freeze.

I've been playing the game since 2004, and I hate the idea of cancelling, but seriously, I don't get a lot of free time. If my time gets spent dealing with freezes and crashes rather than enjoying the game, then I'm out.

now its happening out in the world as well as my house, was only in Guild hall that it occured. Took 3 days for a GM to finally get 2 of my characters out. The memory usage is getting out of hand. The GM that contacted me about getting my characters out didnt care about the issues that caused it all, basically told me to suck it up.
