I was using LP1 so I had to get the correct one with this installer: http://launch.soe.com/installer/EQ2_setup.exe

I got the new LP installed, on my Vista 64 desktop it created a shortcut on my desktop to EverQuest IILaunchPad.exe to start EQII which works ok.

But, on my Win 7 laptop (ran the same updater) it did not create a shortcut and the LaunchPad.exe I have there opens the winamp thing and I have no way to open the game on the Win 7 machine. There is no .exe file in my EQII folder that was modified that works. I tried every one that's there and they all are not it. I'm unable to launch it on my laptop at all other than the initial install.

I checked all the other possible places it could have landed and nothing is there (not even any SOE folders).

Solved.

For kicks I tried deleting the exisiting LaunchPad.exe and re-running EQ2_setup.exe. This time it added the new correct launcher exe but still did not create a shortcut like my Vista machine did, I have to do it manually in Windows 7.

I wonder if there is something a bit weird about LP upgrades on Win7. My win7 setup is identical to yours, and my LP1->LP4 update misfired. I was able to fix it by copying launchpad.exe from a setup that had upgraded correctly.

-= Therendil =-

All LP1s on all windows ended up getting turned into an even older LP, I can't tell you why, I'm baffled by it, they knew many people still use LP1 and claimed they had programmed for it.

Therendil wrote:

I wonder if there is something a bit weird about LP upgrades on Win7.
Weird. I actually had the LP1->LP4 upgrade work at first. It broke when I changed the shortcut to point to launchpad.exe instead of eq2.exe.

-= Therendil =-
