When switching back and forth between the regular servers and the Test server, the launchpad wants to spend a very long time checking all files. Even when I've just updated, it takes it a good 10-15 minutes of constant disk activity before it finally turns on the Play button. It doesn't take nearly that long to check when firing up the launchpad, so I can't see why it's having to do what appears to be a full file scan when switching. It should be doing the same check that it does when initially fired up. It's almost as if it's only got 1 cache of file version information, and switching from normal to Test or back forces it to clear that cache and rebuild it with the new set of files.

This inconvenience has been reported but is currently by design.

I can confirm that LP4 Build 275 does not take very long to switch between Live and Test. I still can't log in to any of ther servers, but the 10-15 minute wait to validate game assets is gone.

-= Therendil =-

<MontgomeryBurnsVoice>Excellent</MontgomeryBurnsVoice>

You can't login to the servers because they are still locked. You can follow the fun at www.soe.com/status

-dan

:chuckle: Well, I knew the servers were still locked, but I thought it was worth reporting that some serious issues with LP4 are now confirmed fixed.

Back when I was a test engineer, a bug report could not be closed until someone swore under oath that the fix was confirmed in a production build. I realize that this doesn't apply here, but I still find closure in posting that something has really been fixed from a user's point of view.

-= Therendil =-

Heh. That's why I do it. How often do you get a post that says, "Yup. It's fixed." ?

-= Therendil =-
