I've never used the LaunchPad, just a shortcut to the file EQ2.exe to start the game which also updates, is this method also being cancelled in favor of the LP4?

maybe I should have posted in the Connection Support forum, but I see questions on LP4 everywhere; is EQ2.exe also called the Station Launcher that I see mentioned?

EQ2.exe is not Station Launcher. That's a separate program that is no longer supported. I don't know the official answer to your question, but I have seen changes recently that suggest the answer is 'no'.

Once upon a time, you launched the game by launching eq2.exe, which in turn fired off LaunchPad to do the actual work. LaunchPad was a separate program installed in its own folder for all the games to use as needed. At some point (LP3 I believe), this changed. Each game installed its own copy of LaunchPad in its program folder and created the familiar EQII icon that now pointed to LaunchPad instead of EQ2.exe.

So the method of launching the game by launching EQ2.exe is no longer supported. It may work for a while, but could also break at any time. My own testing with an old setup shows that launching with EQ2.exe brings up LaunchPad1. Since it has been stated that old versions of LaunchPad will stop working soon, we can guess what will happen there.

-= Therendil =-

All previous iterations of our patcher will become nonfunctional on 12/6/11. I've posted direct install links for our new LaunchPad in my sticky, http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=509747

Thank you very much Therendil for the research and explanation, I can tell from your answer that I was very happy with LP1 for many years and didnt even realize it.

I am now fully updated to LP4 and have adjusted my desktop shortcut links for both my EQ2 installations, one on C: drive the other on D: drive

Thank you TRS-JoshuaM for the link to the Full Assets launcher

I play the game with Wine in Linux. And has done so for a very long time. Have not had Windows installed sins 2003.

I run patch the game with EQ2.exe

I just tryed to install beta of AoD, and it then said it updated to new lanucher and crashed.

So if the beta uses LP4 I will prolly not be able to run EQ2 any more after AoD launches.

I would hate to not be able to play EQ2 any more, and $60 down the drain for Collectors edition of AoD is a pitty.

But to me no game is worth the hell of running Windows agin.

So if I can not get LP4 to work in Wine after AoD launch, it will be a very sad goodbye.

Glad I could help there, cawalton. The 'launcher zoo' is a big issue that SOE is trying very hard to eliminate by making 'one thing to launch them all' so we don't have this confusion.

-= Therendil =-

It's not something SOE officially supports but we have some very knowledgeable community members who put up some good info.

In the past I was able to play 2 accounts on one computer. Then, at some point, Launchpad would not allow me to open 2 accounts, so I had to bypass the Launchpad with 1 account by using the eq2.exe. Will this new update allow me to once again run my 2 accounts from 1 computer or am I just "SOL"?

Vithy,

The new LP does allow multiple accounts to run at the same time. Use the log-out button in the top right corner of the Launcher, then log into your second account
