View Full Version : Connection to Zone Server issues

Bazzar server.

Went from Paineel to Freeport and was kicked to character select. Every character that is in either Freeport of Guild Hall (in Qeynos) is unavailable, meaning the character will start to load, hang on "Connecting to Zone Server", then kick back to character select.

Found it odd, also that logging in would cycle through 2 or 3 server attempts AND the main SOE site seems to be unavailable and the Everquest2.com sites and forum.station.sony.com sites seem to be experiencing problems as well.

Any information available about these issues?

Thank you.

yea, if you do a tracert, you'll probably find somewhere between you and SOE that is clogged / down...

edit: in my case it appears chicago.. but bottom line, nothing SOE can do about something between us and them...

OMG. Someone else from The Bazaar.

Seems like quite a few people have been kicked and can't reach a login server. I check the network route and confirmed that for me at least it isn't a problem getting to SOE. not sure what's going on, but it seems to be recent.

-= Therendil =-

But I'm not sure it's between us and them if you can consistantly log ON to the game, but be unable to log IN with any character. Once you get on the game server (to the point of character select) you should be in their internal server network where the zone servers are located and which I stated are the points that are unavailable. It's strange. I was able to log onto a character in Thundering Steppes but when I tested whether Freeport was down, that character entered the black hole of constant kickback to charater select. I'm very interested to find out what's up (it's the networking student in me) =D

EDIT: Even trying to post this response got a "timed out" error....hmmmm.

My routing seems to be very consistent in that I jump from TimeWarner's network to Level3's network in Chicago. It's the Level3 hop (xe-10-0-0.edge2.Chicago2.Level3.net [4.59.28.101]) that seems to have the issues.

The maddening thing about tracert is that the problem is always with the hop that doesn't respond. You can't figure out who that actually is until the link starts working again.

In the meantime I seem to have a clean route to the world servers but can't touch a login server anywhere.

-= Therendil =-

I agree. Tracert really only does well when the route is static and you can pinpoint where the time out is. The internet is certainly not as static as some would like (which I guess is a good thing =D). Unfortunately, I don't have my WAN class until next Tuesday, but I will ask him what a situation like this is really about.

I have found that my route to any one server is very consistent. For example, it takes 15 hops to get to Antonia Bayle, and I've gotten identical results on about ten tracert runs.

Just for fun, I dug out the name of a patch server from a log file and did a tracert on that. Very interesting. The handoff in Chicago was to a completely different backbone (llnw.net) and I got to the patch server in 13 hops.

I just wish I knew the name of a login server so I could tracert that bugger.

-= Therendil =-

I'm giving up for now, but I did want to post my last findings. After running a number a tracert checks to different SOE assets, I see this pattern:

All attempts to tracert to subdomains of everquest2.com succeed.

Most attempts to tracert to subdomains of station.sony.com die when TWC tries to hand off to a backbone hop in Chicago. Can't tell who is actually failing here.

For what it's worth...

-= Therendil =-

Same problem from me on Antonia Bayle... keeps hanging up at "Connecting to zone server"

Just tried again. Now I can login and get to character select, but then die connecting to a zone server. Happened on Antonia Bayle and The Bazaar.

EQ2X still can't connect to its patch server.

i m having the same problem, seems i am on ok for a bit then ld and can not get back in. i get stuck and the character select screen. thought it was my cache and deleted that last ngiht and logged right in, but it was already after midnight and logged off after 5 minutes to go to bed. this morning was fine, then after about 30 minutes of seamless zoning and my "morning routine" the same thing happened again. LD, and now can only get to character select.

I get the loading screens, then trying to connect to server, then finally "Could not connect to a log in server. The servers may be busy;please try again in a few mintes". Got this so far for about 2 hours

I can't get passed the login either. It tries the login server rotation but fails.

I saw in a connection post you can try ping/tracert to <worldservername>.everquest2.com to see if it's up. But since it's a login issue, i tried pinging login.everquest2.com.

For antoniabayle.everquest2.com, it's replying with an IP of 199.108.12.129. But with login.everquest2.com, it's timing out with an IP of 72.215.225.9.

Can somebody confirm that is the right name & IP?

Allas just posted an "unannounced downtime" with no idea how long servers will be down and no idea if there will be a patch or not.

We had some zone server issues with our older patch methods so I want to make sure everyone experiencing similar issues are using our latest LP3. This may not have been the source of the issues you experienced yesterday but lets get you up to date when you have time to do so. As for connectivity issues, if any are still ongoing please let me know.

[EQII] LaunchPad

I've been having this problem like crazy to the point where EQ2 is getting to be kind of unplayable being kicked to the login screen everytime i try to zone... It happens on both mine and my girlfriends PC's and it started after the expansion launch...

I'm gonna see if it could be something on my end but nothing else is ever timing out
