View Full Version : Back after many years.

I have recently returned to EQ 2 after a 5 year long hiatus. Many things have changed and I am overwelmed with where to begin. My character was lvl 36 and have done the citizenship quest to Neriak since I returned and thats about it.

The reason I have returned is the depth EQ 2 seems to have offer over the other game me and my friends where playing, as well as major design changes coming to the other game.

Basically I am tasked with "learning how to play" EQ2 before 2 of my real life friends come over here within the week. Some of my questions are...

1. What should I focus on with my level 36 Necro? Clear out my past quests? Crafting? New spells? etc...

2. How difficult would it be to start a guild with my real life friends? Only 3 of us will be initially playing. Due to them having children they feel more comfortable with a guild comprised of only real life friends.

3. What if any addons should I take a look at, or are they even allowed?

Thanks

Vlas

Antonia Bayle Server

WB

For the guild just ask a few people to help make the guild. I am sure you will get a few people that will be willing to help your form one and be more than happy to beat feet after its up.

I would start crafting and get your friends to start also. It will help you level the guild rather quickly once you get close to lv cap with crafting ( while the guild is at low lv's anyway ) Once you hit lv 30 as a guild then you can look into getting a GH if you want and go from there.

As for clearing out your journal and all that I would say no. Go complete every thing you can. Help each other threw stuff also untill you are all at the same points on quests. Personaly I have always enjoyed questing with a trio as just about every quest can be done this way. Other than a few that may require you to be solo for whatever reason.

Wow, welcome back!

I'm trying to think what expansion you would have last played? Desert of Flames or Kingdom of Sky?

Yes a lot has changed since then, but the early game is still there and that's where you and your friends should start. Play your way through the early game and explore and enjoy yourselves! You'll find a lot of older content hasn't been updated in quite a while, except for the new starting areas e.g. Neriak, Timorous Deep, Kelethin, and New Halas, but even if the content is a little bit dated, it is still worth playing.

There are so many little changes to the game. AA's, adornments, transmuting, tinkering, flying mounts, jumpers, gliders! There is a city festival each month for the first week, really good in-game events (Nights of the Dead is currently on and will be running until mid-November, so check it out). Go to www.eq2i.com and start reading, you'll find sections on just about everything, and www.zam.com is very good too, and better for many things.

I'd recommend starting a new character in each of the new starting zones - and play for a little while in each - just having a look around, your friends could do the same if they like, or you could just recommend a place to start.

In the end it no longer really matters where you start your character, or which city you live in, it's very easy to travel now - just use a world "bell" on any dock (looks like a globe). So if you choose a different starting city you can still join your friends to adventure. There is still a good-evil split, but have neutral cities too. You can't buy a house in a evil city if you're from a good city, but you can now own up to 20 houses!

One thing - you can't fly until level 85 but jumpers can be obtained at level 30(ish) and are free with a quest in Butcherblock, so If I were you I'd concentrate the first few days on getting one of the free mounts, there is one at the end of each starting city questline http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Mounts

Hope that helps!

Good Hunting!

You will definitely want EQ2Map. Other than that, you can decide later if you want other add ons.

For starting a guild, I would say go for it. Leveling the guild will be a goal you can all work towards. I personally like the guild hall in Gorowyn best once you reach the point of having a hall. The reason for that is Gorowyn npc's will allow either alignment to do business with them. Therefore you can use the crafting area, banker, broker, and many other useful npc's right outside the door and just work on obtaining the travel amenities inside the guild hall.

I suggest you level crafting. There are both crafting quests and crafting writs you can use to level your crafting, earn status points, earn faction and such. You can use crafting and city writs to level your guild. Check out this page at zam for a guide. Also, this is a useful site on harvesting and crafting information. You also will want to level harvesting. There is a quest to get on Isle of Mara early on that gives you a good gold reward and goes along with leveling your harvesting.

You will want to read up on using your aa slider and researching spells.

Oh and here is a link to some suggestions on how to earn money.

Welcome back. =) I also returned after a 3 year hiatus about 3-4 months ago. I tried coming back twice prior and was so overwhelmed I left. But! I figured it out this last time.

Since I had a max level character (adv level and crafting) for the last expansion I played and she only had something like 100 AA's, I didn't want to scrap the character like many on the forums were saying to do. Instead, I parked her and made a brand new toon, just to get a feel for combat mechanics again. By lvl 10, my memory was refreshed enough I started to play my main again, and when frustration would set in from lack of knowledge or being information overload, I hopped back to the new toon, where I was still re-learning things.

Next, I tried to focus on gaming goals. What do I want to achieve first? Since we now have vet bonus per 90 toon, I decided to max crafting on main toon first. That involved a ton of factioning, finding recipes, etc. Overwhelm time again! Thankfully I stumbled upon a crafting line that took her all the way to 90, where I left her and started working on adventuring. Then I started figuring out factions for combat and crafting, then started getting back into decorating.

Basically, what I had to do was have a large notebook beside me and I made a "bucket list" for the character. If I heard people in a chat channel talking about something that interested me, I wrote it down (that's how I found out about the pack pony, heard about many new changes, etc). If I saw something on the forums or in-game I wanted, I looked it up on eq2 wiki and/or Zam to see where it came from and wrote it down how to obtain it. I just kept adding to the list: work on epic weapon, grab x factions, learn these languages for x quest, work on heritages, do L & Ls, obtain x items, etc.

When I log in each day, I looked at the list when I have free time from new friends. I've made great headway on it. It's no longer a full back and front page, but down to less than a page. It would be more if I didn't stop to do stuff. I've learned to keep the "information highway" in my brain down until I manage what I have on my plate. XD

It's just what worked for me. =)

Thanks for all the great replies! Desert of Flames was the last expansion I bought, however I really stopped playing only a few months into the initial EQ2 release. So a lot of catch up thats for sure.

I will deffinately take a look at eq2maps.

Thanks again, its nice to see a great community!
