Who would win in a fight: Miragul or The Duality (Al'Kabor/Dartain)? Just curious, because Dartain and Al'Kabor are some of the most powerful mages of all time, but it's said that Miragul can destroy a continent with a thought.

al'kabor is nice and everything but i really love miragul >_<

The real answer is whatever makes the story work. But looking at things...

As they stand now Miragul is as good as dead. His mind is trapped in the Prism of Eternity in his own thoughts. While he is alive, he is constantly distracted and can't take action beyond the Prism. Effectively, he is trapped unless some outside influence acts on him. (like oh say hords of adventurers disrupting his thoughts?)

The Duality is a truely imposing figure. But, while he has an extreme amount of magical knowledge, it isn't like he is a front line fighting kind of guy. Sure, he can wander the Underfoot unimpeded but it isn't like he's offering to lead the charge against Rallos Zek. I'm betting the Duality would have some crazy abilities which theoretically include cancling all magical abilities in a defeated opponent, permanetly.

As for Miragul in the past, while he was a powerful mage said to master all of the magics we know of today including creating chronomancy he didn't have unlimited or even ultimate power. When confronted with the Ring of Scale he was able to cast an escape spell even though the dragons felt that was impossible. While you could just assume they had never herd of the spell before, more likely they had some sort of ability to prevent that from happening and he was able to overpower it. He wasn't willing to match his magical powers against the entire Ring, but he did use his magic to slow the ones that almost caught them while escaping.

So that whole thing about destroying continents? Probably not.

One thing to mention: Miragul may know nothing of Geomancy which was created by and died with the Combine Empire. Geomancy was said to be the single most powerful form of magic ever known by mortals. Geomancy was used to errect entire cities by magic. So Miragul could be leaps and bounds ahead of the Duality if he knows Geomancy.

Either way, Kerafyrm would eat both for lunch since he DID take on the entire first brood on Velious and won.

actually, I'd have to go with Miragul on this one. first, he's not so much 'trapped' in the prism as he chose it for his phylactry. in so doing, he supposedly made himself one that can't be destroyed. (destroying the phylactery ends the lich) so in theory, he coudl form a 'body' to do whatever he wants with, and not worry about it being destroyed cause he an always reform one. (as long as the phylactery is intact, a lich's form can be 'remade' now he may have misjudged the effects of using the prism for that, but the theory is still there that he coudl do that.

Dartain/Al'kabor share a body...but only 1 controls it at a time, (hence the shifting back and forth) and they don't seem to share anything more then general/specific knowledge. Given that this whole mess came up becuase neither party was willing to submit to the other, I doubt they are sharing magical secrets. So while Al'kabor and Dartain share a body, I'd bet my last copper that Al'kabor can't use Necromancy and Dartain can't use Wizardy.

Probably another reason why the Duality isn't trying to use that, if it was fully usable all at once, substantial magical power at his disposal more actively. Neither of those guys are unwilling to dirty thier hands. Al'kabor traveled with Fironia and aided in her fights, Dartain dealt with minions inside the Underfoot.

not to mention specialization vs generalization. Miragul may not be as powerful as Dartain or Al'kabor in thier respictive fields, but he knows magics they don't. it's a very simple concept. he recognized the weaknesses in each school, and chose to learn them all to minimize his weak points.

and then it's simple division. Miragul knows Dartain and Al'kabor both. ANYONE who's anybody in magic knows them. know what they've done, what school(s) of magic they subscribe to. Al'kabor even had spells named after him. those are the idols. those are the guys all the necromancers and wizards study to try to become like them in power.

Miragul is the same. everyone knows he know all the schools of magic...but unlike dartain and al'kabor, Miragul HAS studied thier respective fields. Al'kabor doesn't know squat about necromancy/enchantment/conjuration. and dartain doesn't know squat about enchantment/conflagration/elemental conjuration in comparision to Miragul. but Miragul would, in theory, also only have to face one of them at a time...but they share a body. so if Miragul beats the snot out of Al'kabor...Dartain enters the fight at a disadvantage. and vice versa...while Miragul doesn't have to care about his physical form. he can always just make a new one.

So I'd say Miragul would win the battle. and if not the battle, he would win the war.

Al`Kabor is a champ, Dartain is a chump, but Miragul is almost god status. He is a master of all types of magic, and able to travel through time, making him effectively immortal and omnipotent.

If he wasn't suffering from the side effects of such power, he would be much more of an issue. Thankfully, his power was concentrated heavily enough in his mind that it actually escalated his unconscious to planar levels and trapped himself in his own mind-plane.
