I did do a search but the most recent post was nearly a year old and I am sure things have changed at least a little since then. I am currently trying a Berserker and he is pretty good but before I get too far along I'd like to get some additional input. I was thnking maybe a monk as they have a heal of sorts and FD. I know SK's used be pretty much the hands down choice for most everything, is that still true, and if so is being evil a problem once you leave the newb areas. I remember zoning into Thundering Steps with my necro back in the day and getting killed as soon as I tried to leave the dock.

Depends what you want to solo really and how fast you want to go.

Soloing for EXP - SK, Paladin

Their AOE dps just destroys stuff for exp.

Soloing strictly nameds heroic mobs - Brawler, SK

These three JUST for the fact that they can FD right to the mob and ignore all the trash. If you do not mind trash then any tank can do the job really.

Soloing the most difficult mobs that are even able to be soloed - Paladins, maybe monks.

I am pretty sure that a couple paladins out there have soloed stuff that no other tank can solo because of capacity to heal ones self.

Pallys can solo very well... but it isn't fast... or efficient. In fact until you get a power proc item 90% of herioc kills will be autoattacked to death and hoping they die before the repop kills you. So pally soloing will tend to be more high-end and mentored down stuff which skews the results somewhat.

I'm not saying pallys cannot solo, indeed they can very well but from 1-80 my soloing prowess was confined to autoatatck and heal procs; even with power procs I've been in fights which lasted 30-60min.

Anyways, all tanks can heal ; if they are not stunned - if you adorn right

Guardians are the only fighter that can NOT heal. We have some stoneskins that help us avoid damage but in terms of a solo fight, these would be wasted on smaller hits where as any other classes heals would have the exact same effect.

If you want to solo do NOT pick a Guardian. A brawler would be better as they can FD if things get hairy but that is only really at higher levels with good gear. SK would be by far the prefered class. They have a long reuse FD which can save you, heal thelselves by doing damage the mob and so massive DPS on AoE low level stuff.

All fighters are gear dependant though so it's not all candy until you get some good gear for the level your at.

Yeah it seems that overall it still comes down to Shadowknight, with Monk/Paly a distant second.

I'm reasonably certain that a brawler can solo anything a shadowknight can, given enough heal proc gear. All you need to solo most MOBs is enough self-healing and damage mitigation to cross the "Immortality Line," which is the threshold where your self-healing capabilities are able to outpace your incoming damage perpetually. Unless the MOB has its own self-healing greater than your DPS, or a script that requires multiple people to defeat (Silverwing, for example) you can just whittle it down over a long period. This may not always be worth it (I don't plan to solo the Djinn Master or Phara Dar again any time soon) but it is possible.

Basically, my opinion is that every tank can eventually solo most theoretically soloable MOBs, it just takes more investment and preparation for some classes.

well for solo leveling SK/Zerker no doubt about that with paladin not far behind.

For named hunting its brawler (simply because they can FD skip trash up to named)

If you want to clear trash and not abuse of the FD tecnique SK/zerker would have the upper hand (due to AoE and SK FD can helpa ton).

All in all I doubt there is many named one fighter can solo that others can't (beside guardian maybe).

My 2 favorite personaly are SK/Bruiser both funy. I go on SK when I want to clear everything, pretty easy to play you just DPS and everything heals you. Bruiser is for fast named run, gameplay is a little harder I'd say, you must time your heals/stoneskins in betwin your damage move but with so many FD you shouldn't die that much.

The higher end the gear you obtain the bigger the gap between what some fighters can solo and others cant becomes. So sure if all fighters in PQ gear they should be able to solo similar mobs. But put all fighters in HM drundar gear and there are mobs that certain fighters can solo that others cant.

I won't say there isn,t but everytime I've seen a new named soloed by 1 fighter it has been accomplished by the others in a month or so.

EQ2 is so old that you can usualy get items that farm unic class abiliti like these 100% melee AoE proc, brawler mitigation is now on par of plate etc.
