Okay, I know Everquest is one of those games where "New" doesn't always mean "Better", but I'm having a problem that I shouldn't be.

When I zone into the guild hall, or any new zone, I'm at over 150fps. As soon as I take a few steps, the game stutters until I stop moving, let everything cache, and I return to 150fps. In a fairly empty guild hall, It takes about 7 seconds of running around the whole thing in slideshow mode before I can stabilize my FPS.

This problem isn't limited to EQ2, but is most prevalent here. I noticed it in Battlefield 3 and Minecraft as well (Workaround for BF3 was to reduce the VRam it was using by killing some textures).

I had an NVidia GTX 260 (BFG Maxcore 55, nothing fancy or overclocked) and a 2.4GHz AMD Phenom 9600 (Quad) (The broken one..) Had no issues there, except some out of memory crashes and about half the FPS.

I upgraded to an NVidia GTX460, and a 3.4GHz AMD Phenom II 965.

That is when the problem started. I thought it was the loss of some RAM as a result of more GPU memory, so I installed a 64-bit OS, but that didn't fix the problem. Currently using the nvidia beta drivers for BF3, but had this issue prior to that as well.

Other system specs: Windows 7 64-bit SP1

ASUS M3N-72D Motherboard

4GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM

Brand new 1TB Hard Drive

Old 80GB Hard Drive

DXDIAG follows.

Update: No responses yet, but I've also been experiencing random bluescreens and freezing, not sure what that's about.. but it's also new to me.

Please contact our support staff directly and include your full DXDIAG and MSINFO files as explained in my signature links. You can post the incident number here once its opened.

Bluescreens and freezing usually means something is jacked with your hardware whether it's seating, debris, heat, or just crappy manufacturing.

Not trying to insult your intelligence here or anything Maer...

powersupply wattage? Assuming 750 or higher?

Have you tried pulling everything and re-seating the chip, card, and memory? You might have a piece of dust or silica on one of the contacts you overlooked or it didn't get a good seat. OR stretched a power cable partly out of it's socket.

Have you tried reinstalling your old Graphics card and CPU to see if you get the same results?

I'm sure you've tried this but it's better to start at the beginning and work down.

@TSR-JoshuaM

Reference #: 111006-000485

I had spoken with tech support at the time of opening the thread, but this is sizing up to be a long term issue that can't be so simply handled by the online chat in one sitting. The guy never asked for my DXDIAG info or my MSINFO, despite offering it to him. That's part of my frustrations and reason for not dragging the conversation out.

http://s000.tinyupload.com/download...129718178256197

^MSINFO, the DXDIAG was already pasted in the thread.

@Loxo

A man on his knees doesn't turn away help. I assumed it to be a software issue to some degree, or a compatibility issue I wasn't aware of. I didn't want to create a problem where there wasn't one, potentially, so I figured I'd exhaust this possibility first.

My Motherboard originally didn't support Socket AM3 CPUs, but ASUS swears that the bios update I'm using fixed that.

However, I don't see how a BIOS update can enable proper use of a different socket, especially without a DDR3 memory controller on the motherboard which is an inherent part of socket AM3.

I'm using the BF3 beta drivers from NVidia at the moment. If the official release doesn't resolve the issues I'm having, I'll start swapping the old stuff back in. It's just extraordinarily difficult to keep switching between drivers.

Additionally, just because i'm experiencing the problem differently, doesn't necessarily mean the problem wasn't there before. Like I said, zoning into the guild hall and getting memory crashes might have ceased, but what I'm experiencing might be "SOMETHING" in my system trudging through the same complications.

Also, I don't know if it's worth mention, but my incredibly overcluttered house which was previously a guaranteed crash if I didn't turn my textures down experiences the problem ten fold.

With complex shaders on, I get an unsurprising 8-15FPS. There's a lot of junk in there. However, until I run into the center of the room and then back up to the zone in, my FPS is at an astoundingly painful 2-4.

It just feels like my graphics card doesn't know how to cache. I have tried using older graphics card drivers, but to no avail. My card isn't overheating or anything, running at a steady 50c, and it has never gone over 65 overclocked under any circumstances.

The reason I suspect it's a problem beyond the graphics card is the random computer hardlocking I've had recently, 2-3 times a day and even browser freezes.

I was implying 50c under load.. at or below 30 without. The blue screen was pegged as keyboard related, but the freeze-ups are universal. The performance issues are recognisable and similar in other applications too, especially memory intensive ones.

But how do I go up to ASUS and tell them they lied to me? I have close to zero proof, and am either the only one realizing the cause, or the only one experiencing it.

I just did a fresh install of windows with the upgrade, and was experiencing these issues prior. So it boils down to it being a hardware issue, either driver wise, compatibility wise or physically. I just didn't know if any of that could be determined by the information I provided.

Out of curiousity did you replace your old CPU to upgrade or because it was fried/frying? You mentioned something about "the broken one" in your first post, I wasn't sure if you were refering to your graphics card or your CPU. If you're CPU fried it might have damaged the MB which they do 90% of the time.

Maergoth

No, I was referring to the fact that the AMD Phenom 9600 was a poorly manufactured CPU and had a buffer bug that wasn't fixed before released.

I mentioned it being broken because it was a hugely inferior CPU and was performing more smoothly than this one is.

At zone in to a new zone or Guild hall, FPS are at ~120. And at the first few seconds it is stuttering very much.

Have the latest Graphicdriver Version and overclocked my CPU to 3,36 Ghz each Core.

I have activated V-Synch and MSAA16x in Nvidia Graphic Settings.

After these few seconds of lag, it seems to run good. But the game stutters every half minute a little bit, but not constantly.

Can someone help me?

thx

DXDIAG follows in the evening.

Maergoth,

It does really sound like you have some hardware issues. There is a program called prime95 that will almost always identify memory/CPU problems (http://files.extremeoverclocking.co.../file.php?f=103). It has a torture test that will thrash the CPU and memory. I didn't read everything in the thread but it appears that you mentioned a CPU change, when you changed the CPU did yuse use the same heatsink/fan as before? If you did did you replace the thermal compund? It is vital for the heat transfer requirements on todays CPU's, and if you use a 'stock' heat sink/fan from one CPU on a different CPU it may not have the heat transfer capacity to handle it.

The stuttering, blue screens and all point more towards heat/memory than anything, unclean power source running a close second. As was suggested earlier ake sure the power supply is big enough for what you need and ideally it should be operating at no more than 70-80% of it's max load.
