I'm trying to get a basic understanding of the roles of each class. I've looked and descriptions and glanced at spells and this is what I've come up with.

Druids - Healing - HoT/Heals Warden - Melee, defensive Fury - Caster, OffensiveCleric - healing - reactive Inq - Melee?/offensive Templar - Caster, DefensiveShaman - healing - Wards Defiler - Caster, Defensive Mystic - melee, offensive

Is this fairly accurate? Is there anything class defining that I should know for any of them?

2nd question... My friend is going to role a SK, which class would compliment him the best?

Thank you

I would generally agree with your assessment of the various healer classes, although I have only played Fury, Inquisitor and Mystic (not very much on the Mystic).

I rolled a healer on my 2nd account specifically to 2-box with my SK. I started with a Fury to 90, then switched to Inquisitor. Between those two, I would definitely go with Inquisitor. My breakdown between those 2 classes is below.

Inquisitor

Truly awesome melee buffs for both the Inquisitor and the SK.

Heals well, although cast time on distinctly slower on heals than the Fury, especially at lower levels

Better 'oh crap' buttons - Divine Guidance, Sacrifice, Insta-Rez even if already dead (whatever it's called)

Plate armor is very nice, much less squishy than Fury

I love Shield Ally

Myth gives a great group cure that can be cast while moving

Steadfast - no interrupts except on knockback

Fury

Very fast casting heals

Mediocore buffs for melee

Nice 2nd group cure through AA

Better DPS than my Inquisitor (I know have seen this argued elsewhere and I don't want to start a fight so I am just saying that I can DPS much better on my Fury than my Inquisitor, perhaps a personal failing.)

Lots of AOE DPS

I would also say Fury or Inquisitor. The SK is a bit of a Tank / Mage hybrid from his abilities (still a full Tank, but also uses spells), so he benefits from melee and spell buffs. The Inq has the better melee buffs and the Fury the better spell buffs. Beside this the poster above me is about right.

Thanks for the replies...

I did end up picking the inq. We started last night and were able to get to level 18 fairly quickly. I had a little bit of a hard time healing BB, but we are both under geared and learning our class.

As far as AA goes, what do you think is best for leveling/duoing? I tried finding stuff online, but mainly find guides for raiding. Also any suggestions for character development? I would assume always go for wisdom upgrades and I picked Penace for my grandmaster spell, and that made a huge difference. Thanks again for the advice.

My Inq guide here esp made for solo / group play and not for raiding. The raiding Inq discuss their specs on Flames in a much harsher language.

Might add that druids get hte portals which might speed travel up when questing.

With the SK i d always roll a defiler. This is how it was designed long ago and it is still true. Buffs, debuffs, damage and heal type complement with each other. Its a duo that is able to beat anything, even heroic and epic stuff as long as they have appropriate AA and armor. An extremely solid duo !!

If a 3rd friend joins, then roll a coercer and if a 4th friend joins then add a warlock.
