Okay so, I have played this game right after Rise of Kunark released (on this rig), and left when "The Shadow Odyssey" release. I have come back, been playing for a week or so. And Starting yesterday the game along with my computer decides to freeze up at random points. Ive been in a dungeon running about 80FPS smoothly, with temps not going over 60' and my computer freezes. And it only freezes when I play this game. I also play a variety of other graphic intensive games and have 0 problems. It first froze in the Sanctum of the Scaleborn. Was running very high FPS, again (low temps) , everything was going smoothly and BAM, froze. So I have to do a hard reboot and relog. After 10 minutes , it does it again. So then I crank down my graphics and have never returned to Sanctum of the Scaleborn. However, a few hours later I join a group in an instance. I cant quite recall which instance it was. I know it was in Sinking Sands, and you have to touch a lamp to get into it. Anyways, the instance im reffering to isnt very graphic intensive. So I have high FPS in there. And yet, still a full freeze.

I am not sure what is wrong, and I recently read http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=505135 with out too many answers.

NOTE* I am using the streaming client.

Here is my DxDiag :

I've been having a similar problem in EQ2 lately myself. My video driver will randomly crash and freeze my screen, sometimes it corrects itself after a moment, other times I have to reboot. My GPU/CPU temps are normal but the odd thing is this freeze only happens in EQ2 and only when I'm grouped in an instance. The number of people in the group doesn't seem to play a part in it, its happened with a duo and I've tested several other online games with no incidents. I've played for hours alone and grouped outside of instances without a single issue but the freeze will happen repeatedly as soon as I enter an instance. Anyone know if, perhaps, a setting in the video options might be the culprit?

38 degrees celcius on my CPU and 75-80 celcius for my GPU. They stay roughly around there in 4 of the other games I tested without any issues. It also happens outside of instances but so far it's only happened when I'm in a group. Never when I'm solo.

I'm having a very similar problem and I've noticed that both myself and the op have one thing in common, we're both using a ati 57 series card! I'm using a 5750 and I get a screen freeze/black screen with this card and EQ2 around twice every two months or so! anything else I run I have no problem with, I have to hard reset to get back into windows, card temp for me is around 47/50 it seems to be that the card just doesn't like EQ2!

Just to let you know, I've just had this problem happen to me again, I had it freeze on sunday and it's done it again just mins ago in it's usual almost predictable way! I get it happen once every two months or so and then a second time with in a 5 or 6 day period after the first time, each time is always the same sort of "effect" I always get a screen drop out and then nothing but vertical lines across the whole screen resulting in a hard reset. I just checked card temps when I rebooted and mine are still low at around 44 so I've no idea why this happens, but next one will be around 2 months from now yet again, my card is a ati 5750 I'm wondering if the card is damaged but I have no problems with running anything other than eq2.

I'm failry certain that it's not a overheating issue, at least for me anyway as I had the side of the case off and I was only ingame for literally five mins before this issue happened to me yesterday! so there is no way it could overheat that quick I think, (at least I hope!) going back through my event records I had put eq2 back on my win 7 system early feb 2010 and the first record I have of this screen freeze is not untill april 2011!! daft as it may sound the only thing I can think of offhand that MAY be the cause although I can't see why/how is that for a while I was not using the multi core support, I'm going to turn it off and see if this happens again, I've no idea why that could cause a problem but it was the only difference I can think of, acn you tell me when the multi core support was introduced? it may not be linked but it's the only thing I can think of.

I've been having this same issue for a little while now. It only freezes up while playing eq2, and it has nothing to do with temp in my case. I've tried different sticks of ram, installed alternative graphics cards, called tech support on the people that put together my pc, and even tried switching out monitors for the heck of it. It usually happens randomly once every few hours, but sometimes it can happen back to back right after I log back in. Very frustrating.

It never happened before I bought a gaming quality pc, but sadly that pathetic low quality dell may have to be brought out of retirement just to play this old game. Funny how terribly slow and weak my dell is for gaming, but how much more reliable it is than this brandnew gaming pc that is suppose to beable to run just about anything under the sun.

I am having an extremely similar situation. Game will hard lock at completely random intervals. Random temperatures, random cpu/ram/gpu usages. There is no corelation to the locks. I am using a GTX295. The problem you described where you reboot and it locks again within 10 minutes is the same for me, the only way I can prevent this is by disabling SLI after the crash. Initially I thought SLI was the root of the problem but recently it has been happening with SLI turned off entirely.

Like the OP I can play other games on the highest settings for hours with no such locking issues.

I have done a fresh install of windows on a brand new hard drive and the problem persists. I have run memory diagnostics, graphics stress tests, cpu stress tests. There is nothing wrong with my hardware as far as these test results go.

I first noticed the issue roughly 6-9 months ago and since then it happens nearly every night during a 3-4 hour session.
