View Full Version : Unrest Hag bug?

Friends and I went to Unrest today for the first time in ages (group of 6 toons). We'd heard that there might be a bug with the Hag, but thought we'd try it out anyways and report the bug if we found one. Well, we certainly found something odd happening at the Hag. The upper levels went fine, we killed the Priest of Fear and took his symbol, then proceeded to the basement. We cleared up to the hag area, then started clearing the jail cells. We somehow managed to aggro the Hag, who yelled at us "cheaters pay!" and cast "The Festering Hag's Festering Judgement" on us all, killing us immediately and breaking all our gear.

Now I recall something about this being here to stop people from soloing the zone, but as far as I know we did everything in order, had a full group, and didn't skip any steps. As rebirth didn't trigger for some reason, we rebuffed at the zone and came back to try again. We tried a few more times, finally giving up on clearing the jail cells and simply pulling the hag, but each time she just cast judgement on us and broke all our gear.

Were we missing something? We haven't done Unrest in a long time, but we used to do it regularly and I don't recall having any issues like this. It seems to us that it must be a bug, but if we perhaps missed something, could someone enlighten us? In the meantime, it seems that the zone may be uncompletable.

If I remember correctly, that code was put in because there was a way to bypass certain steps and go right to the basement.

I have no idea what triggers it, but given that it's not bit me when I box my alts through (slowly), and it does seem to bite full groups that blast through in a hurry, I suspect it's time based. If you get to her faster than was possible when the zone was created, boom. I could of course be completely wrong.

A) You could try taking your time, just loafing through the zone, making sure you follow each and every script point. Or B) you could try to get a Dev to fix the probably broken anti-cheater code.

B's the right answer. But if you just want to get it done, I might try A...

We didn't exactly burn through the zone, but running the zone green at an average of level 82 with an inexperienced SK tank its still pretty fast, and many of the mobs that used to be triple ups are only single ups now, so its even faster than it would have been previously.

Perhaps next time we'll take a 20 minute afk mid-way heh.

It does require a significant time investment, however. The hag's special curse was meant to prevent people from skipping the beginning of the zone. I believe there was some way to aggro her and get her to lock you in a cell, thereby getting you into the basement, or something like that. In any case, I suggest checking to make sure that you have completed all the previous progression-related steps in the zone and not accidentally skipped any. It's also possible that whatever flags the hag script is checking aren't getting set properly, so maybe try going back through to see if any of the previous events can be re-done after getting reset somehow.

Debugging is a complicated process, but Unrest is a cool enough zone to be worth the effort.

We've done it many many times over the years with no problem, and we definitely went through all of the steps, killing the mobs in order, unlocking all the rooms for access to the next area etc.

The thing about aggroing the hag and getting into the jail cell isn't even possible at the moment, as soon as you pull or aggro her, she immediately breaks your gear and the entire group dies immediately. Given how old the content is now, I can't see any justification for this type of effect anyways. Spend the time and fix the zone -- its a great zone, really fun, and if someone wants to solo it, who cares? We'll try it again and go through everything step by step.. again..

I'd be interested in hearing, though, whether anyone has made it through successfully anytime recently.

Update

Ok my friends and I went back in today to see if we could figure this problem out, and we think we've solved it. In chat on our server, someone had mentioned having a simliar issue and a GM fixing the Hag for them and telling them that their problem was using the wrong side of the bookcase to get into the basement. We thought, no that couldn't be the problem... and yet, by using the _left_ bookcase instead of the right bpokcase, it completely solved the Hag bug for us.

With the original group, we zoned back in and tried the left side of the bookcase, went down and the Hag fight went just as it should. She died fast, but we didn't get hit with the cheat code and the usual number of folks and dopplegangers ended up in the jail cells. The rest of the zone went fine.

We zoned out and since our timer was ready, we reset and did the zone again from the start with the same original toons. Everything in the same order, about same amount of time... BUT used the LEFT bookcase to enter the basement again, and everything went perfectly, no Hag issues.

Logged in another set of toons, did everything exactly the same way, same order, same amount of time... but used the RIGHT door. BAM! Hag hit us with the cheat code. We tried disbanding one toon and had her pull the hag with a pet, everyone in the zone was hit with the cheat code. Everyone left the zone, we zoned back in right away, repaired, and went back down using the LEFT door -- no problem with the hag.

Our theory is that when the zone was last revamped to make a few things easier, including making the priest and tinkerer body able to give up multiple keys/symbols, the code on the right bookcase may not have been updated for the new priest of fear symbol item, and thus if you use that side to get down it triggers the cheat code. So until that gets fixed -- use the LEFT side of the bookcase to get to the basement .

Edit: I meant bookcase, not door

In the library on the main floor, you have to put the symbol from the priest of fear into one of the bookcases to get into the basement.

It is not a bug.

Evening, this happened to us the other day and we had all the keys, problem is someone, when they right clicked on the door, chose USE, instead of the option to use the symbol for the basement.

We got around it by having someone go back upstairs, right click on the door and select the proper choice.

When something so trivial as choosing the wrong door or button messes up the instance its a bug and should be fixed ASAP.

Note that in the quests forum someone else was having the same problem and the way they fixed it was using the left door as I suggested. Anyways, regardless of how it happens, it needs to be fixed.

Edit: Gnina just confirmed in the other thread that the bookcases were the problem, so hopefully this will be fixed soon .

What I meant by not a bug, is that it was intended that clicking on only 'USE' would turn the Hag into a super witch going through those doors.

The real question is... why was a revamp of this zone even necessary? It was a bit of a challenge even after all these years and that made it fun.

QUIT DUMBING DOWN THE CONTENT SOE!!!

The old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it!" is something the current SOE EQ2 team sorely needs to have taught to them.

It seems lately thats all they have been doing, breaking things that used to work while "fixing" them.

Have you been to the zone lately? It has been revamped with many very nice changes.

Although I don't see how it is dumbed down in any way...

This door bug was the result of the revamp and a door that missed proper coding changes.

Them making the mobs easier = dumbing down.

Making it a cake walk might be nice for a lot of people who want to snooze through the zone. I for one enjoy challenges.

I ran it with the bug during double XP weekend. The only change I saw from the past was the bug. Everything else seemed to work the same way it always did.

It might seem easier for many folks though since the instance was created a while back many folks of have gained 20 levels, 300 AAs, gotten fully mastered, and have really nice raid gear.

If I had to run the instance on-level with expert spells, limited AA, and instance gear I suspect it would be LOT harder.
