View Full Version : Splitpaw: Lag after log-in
Daysy

After logging in a character, whether it's the first I log after starting the client or after any number of character changes, there's lag of 30+ seconds. I can run around as much as I like without a problem but I can't interact with any NPC, I can't zone and I can't chat. After half a minute or so, the chatbox scrolls with whatever lines I tried to type in there, as well as assorted error messages telling me that I'm too busy to use the bank, broker, mailbox or whatever I tried.

This only happens on this server, not when I'm in other regions, but I'm not the only one experiencing it, as others have mentioned it too.

We can run a network test to our splitpaw servers to test your connectivity/latency.

I need you to bring up a run dialog box. You can do this by pressing and holding the Windows key on your keyboard and tapping the R key.

In the box that pops up I need you to type cmd and press Enter (If you're using Windows Vista/7 press ctrl-shift-enter).

This is going to bring up an old “DOS box” don’t worry it’s just text.

You’ll need to type in the following commands one at a time. Remember to put spaces between all the words, unless there’s a special character like / or . in front of the word. Then you’ll want to keep that symbol and the word together.

If you’re having a lot of trouble you can also just copy and paste the text out of this email and into the DOS box.

These commands can take a while to run so please wait for the blinking cursor to appear since you won’t see any output to your screen. For the pathping commands you might even want to go grab some coffee, or a sandwich between lines.

So, all set? Here’s the commands:

ipconfig /all > c:eq2info.txt

tracert splitpaw.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt

pathping splitpaw.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt

Many people experience lag, what causes it will differ from case to case.

The server itself is up and running, we have very little reports of lag that aren't individual issues. GU61 would not have a direct impact on just yourself or a few others and is more than likely purely coincidental.

What I recommend doing is hard wiring to your modem, bypassing your router and wireless network, and attempt to reproduce the lag.

I'm about as far from those servers as possible and am experiencing virtually zero server side lag over the past day or so.

I do not think it is related to my hardware as it occurs ONLY after login and only since recently. As long as I do not switch toons it is fine after the initial 10-30s lag. When asking in channels others experience the same issue. There is even another thread in the gameplay forum right now.

It's not on the Test or Bazaar servers, only on Splitpaw.

It's not lag in the sense that I can't move; if I happen to be in Antonica when I log in, I could run from one side to the other without a problem. However, I can't interact with any facility or NPC.

After a while it all works properly and the chatbox shows everything "catching up" with what I tried to do.

Since my original post, the situation does seem to have improved a bit, in that the delay between arriving and being able to do anything seems to be down to about 15 seconds.

Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : daysy Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : NoEthernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : SiS191 Ethernet Controller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-1D-60-39-B8-26 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.199 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 208.67.220.220 208.67.222.222 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 29 September 2011 11:56:38 Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 29 September 2011 12:56:38Tracing route to amseq2-03-01.everquest2.com [195.33.139.96]over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1 2 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1 3 25 ms 25 ms 24 ms 217.32.147.3 4 27 ms 27 ms 27 ms 217.32.147.46 5 28 ms 27 ms 27 ms 213.120.177.66 6 28 ms 28 ms 28 ms 217.32.24.62 7 28 ms 28 ms 27 ms 217.32.24.182 8 28 ms 28 ms 28 ms acc2-10GigE-0-2-0-6.l-far.21cn-ipp.bt.net [109.159.249.229] 9 38 ms 35 ms 36 ms core1-te-0-0-0-0.ilford.ukcore.bt.net [109.159.249.157] 10 29 ms 29 ms 29 ms peer1-xe9-0-0.telehouse.ukcore.bt.net [109.159.254.120] 11 29 ms 29 ms 29 ms ns.de.prserv.net [195.66.226.27] 12 35 ms 43 ms 35 ms 32.119.116.22 13 41 ms 37 ms 35 ms 32.112.228.10 14 35 ms 34 ms 34 ms mdf002c7613r0004-tge-12-1.ams1.attens.net [32.42.0.174] 15 35 ms 35 ms 34 ms vl50.amsixmsfc-2.sonyonline.net [195.33.129.77] 16 35 ms 35 ms 35 ms 195.33.139.96 Trace complete.Tracing route to amseq2-03-01.everquest2.com [195.33.139.96]over a maximum of 30 hops: 0 daysy [192.168.0.199] 1 192.168.0.1 2 192.168.1.1 3 217.32.147.3 4 217.32.147.46 5 213.120.177.66 6 217.32.24.62 7 217.32.24.182 8 acc2-10GigE-0-2-0-6.l-far.21cn-ipp.bt.net [109.159.249.229] 9 core1-te-0-0-0-0.ilford.ukcore.bt.net [109.159.249.157] 10 peer1-xe9-0-0.telehouse.ukcore.bt.net [109.159.254.120] 11 ns.de.prserv.net [195.66.226.27] 12 32.119.116.22 13 32.112.228.10 14 mdf002c7613r0004-tge-12-1.ams1.attens.net [32.42.0.174] 15 vl50.amsixmsfc-2.sonyonline.net [195.33.129.77] 16 195.33.139.96 Computing statistics for 400 seconds... Realistically, we can't just assume it is or isn't caused by anything specific or across the board, without supporting evidence. We need to eliminate and rule out potential causes of the issue and starting at the basics is the best course of action.

Well i've been having the exact same issue here as well, and several others on Guk Server also.

Log in and i would have this mind blowing lag of 3minutes, and i can move around just fine but i cant Zone/Talk/Target/Cast/Interact with NPC's/or Camp.

And this would only happen when i zone into my Guild hall, Log in, Or switch over to any one of my toons (out side or inside a guild hall), and every now and then i would have this happen after i evac or call of the veteran to a group member.

Im going to try and reformat my computer, Update my drivers but honestly dont think its peoples machines. It has only popped up these last 3days and I've noticed some people talking about it in guild chat and public channels.

Ditto on Guk server. I log in with any char and I spent about 30-45s without having chat box update, cast abilities, zone (Althought i can still move around). After it clears up I am good unless I either 1: log to another charactor or 2:Zone. I also notice the problem shows the second I choose to camp from the game, either its to another charactor or to desktop the moment I sit on the ground and those 20 seconds count down I start suffering packet lose and BPSPing increases.

Whats really interesting about this is while this is happening things appear normal on my screen. I can move around freely and I see others moving around normally. From others point of view I appear to be just standing there motionless but once the "lag" clears up for me it appears that i have warped to my new spot that i moved to during waiting out the "lag" period.

The problem for me didnt develope until after the downtime the other morning. Who knows.

Same issue for me. Left the game for many months, came back last night, barely able to play. Only it doesn't last 30-45s. It will last for minutes, sometimes 10. That is if it doesn't kick me back to character select before. This is on Antonia Bayle server.

Mine doesn't seem to be related to hardware either. Last night I installed EQ2 on a different computer, one newer than mine and none of the major components the same, and had the same problem when I logged in.
