There are currently several threads on this topic. This is a compliation thread to put the discussion in a single location.

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=501780

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=499609

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=506918

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=494357

Common complaints:

Pet is in passive mode, and not actively attacking. Pet protect states are set to off (the pet will not defend itself or its master)

Someone goes to pull a mob, whether soloing or grouping. WITHOUT the pet even attacking, the mob makes a beeline to the pet.

Often when a mob is spawned spontaneously for a quest (such as some of the level 80ish Lavastorm quests) the mobs will make a beeline to the pet as soon as they spawn.

This problem was occasionally noticed in the past, but ever since GU61 it has become a major problem for Summoners. It has plagued Shaman pets in the past as well. Possible causes:

Pets have a passive AoE buff that for some reason tells the mobs these pets are high-priority targets.

When a tank goes to body pull a mob, he might be out of range of the pet AoE buffs when he pulls. Once the tank backs into AoE range of the buffs, the buff is reapplied to the tank and it causes hate to be generated to the pet.

Most passive buffs cast by players are possibly flagged to generate no aggro. However this flag was missed for pet versions of these buffs.

The problem has grown considerably for Summoners since GU61, and seems to be related to the AAs Cabalistic Aura and Teamwork. However the problem has existed well before GU61, and documented as far back as The Shadow Odyssey.

Again, it can't be stressed enough that pets are pulling aggro "on the pull" while set to passive, without being told to attack, and with both pet protect states set to passive.

^^ Yup

Happens to both my Mystic and my Conji, however, if I spec out of teamwork and CC/FFW AA buffs on the Conj, or drop the DogDog AA line on the mystic it immediatly ceases to happen.

It happens to my mystic because my dog procs stuff.

If he just happened to proc a ward(STR line, Aura of Warding) and that ward hasn't been used or expired yet, since he cast it, he's the one that gets aggro.

Xalmat,

Thank you for gathering all the related posts together in one place, and especially presenting the issue in such a way that it will not get shuffled back in to class specific forums where nobody is going to see it (at least, I'm crossing my fingers).

Maybe it will finally get some attention. This has been going on for far too long, and unfortunately most people don't even seem to understand the issue, or dismiss it as people not understanding how to control aggro.

Please, everyone having this problem: bug report!!!!

This problem needs attention, it is affecting both my summoners and my defiler.

I am having to recast pets after nearly every pull because the mob makes a beeline straight to my pet and then me after it dies.

My necro has it the worst, on pull the mobs go right for her and the tanks cannot get them off, something here is very wrong.

I'm assuming this is still a problem? Not exactly a lot of visibility in this thread.

It happens to my wife's necro. We'll be in an instance and the mobs always makes a straight line to her pet now. Her pet is set on passive and will be pretty far back from the pull. I always end up having to pull it off. Kind of annoying.

Yup, still a problem. I see it on both my mystics, defiler, conjurer & necro. I've even seen it on my illusionist sometimes (though I rarely play that char anyway so I'm not too sure how common an issue it is for that class's pet).

They could take notice of CCP's producer's recent apology and redirection dev blogs.

This thread is going on 30 days now with the reported bug going even farther back without any acknowledgement? Could someone with the required expertise hack the forum site so that SOE will take notice? Apparently that's what it takes these days.

I also noticed today that in Drunder raid zone. I forget which one, I think it was Sullons. After zoning in to the zone. Without any interaction what so ever. My pet decided to run off and attack one of the groups of mobs standing at the start of the zone as they spawned. To say the least, the raid leader wasn't impressed

Edit: And of course the pet was on passive only.

I recently started leveling a new mystic alt, no dogdog aa's yet just the 1 to get him. Mobs still make a beeline for him when the tank pulls.

This is very broken and making it extremely hard to play Necromancer, which is my main. Mobs flip to me almost immediately even if I'm doing nothing.

I have to really watch on my conjuror to be CERTAIN that my pet is not set to protect anything. Otherwise, the first AOE makes him blast the incoming mob and gets me in trouble. I hadn't noticed it was doing this at other times, but then, I wasn't watching for it, either.

For YEARS the shaman dog has been a Bad Dog. I've seen them swerve out of their way to go aggro stuff. I expect to possibly take a hit if I have prewarded the tank, but poor Dog-Dog is not wearing armor, and I definitely want him to survive and be proccing wards and whatnot.

Thanks for the combo post. Hopefully this will be looked into.

I got fed up with this issue finally on my necro and respecced my AA's. Tossed out Teamwork (the whole agility line actually) and problem no more.

I only started playing again a few weeks ago and the few groups I have been in I have not noticed any conj issues. I don't find many lower level groups for my mystic though these days so I can't really tell about the mobs going straight for a passive dog issue yet.

My conjuror friend had this happen all the time in a dungeon we were running. Pain in the butt.

*SUPER BUMP*

Yes, this problem is still going strong. I have a necro myself but its usually when I'm tanking when I notice the issue the most. It seems that pulling any mob by not directly hitting it (body pulling for example) will make the mob IMMEDIATELY go to the pet. This isn't an issue in the easier DoV zones but it makes a huge problem in Drunder zones where the mobs can insta-kill the pet and then go straight for the summoner right after. This needs to be fixed ASAP if possible because not even pre-wards/heals draw this much aggro so instantaneously at the beginning of a pull.

Its pathing probably, the mobs run towards you then go through the ground or warp, causing your pet to break.

Definately not a pathing issue. was observing this in SoS. Had pet completely passive did a mass room pull for aoe, by time i circled room pet was dead. Which means lots of things are hitting him instead of me on a body pull.

And while we on subject of pets...Please someone look at why you can only make them attack about half the time. I havent been able to sick my dog on a training dummy in ages.

Xalmat,

Are these pets running additional regen buffs?

I can find examples that if an entire raid is otherwise agro neutral, a body pulled creature will target the 'raid friendly' with the highest regen running (even if they are at full hp/mana).

I believe regen is computed somehow into 'heal agro'. I actually don't know enough about the current state of buff packages on these pets, but this would be the first thing that comes to mind.

Talathion@Antonia Bayle wrote:

Its pathing probably, the mobs run towards you then go through the ground or warp, causing your pet to break.

Nope. Its not a pathing issue. Like others mentioned earlier, this started after the last update changing the Summoner tree. Ever since then, even when a pet is set to not do anything it will draw instant mob aggro.

(Because, pretty much everyone is "ready", no ninja-pulling without focused aggro management)

Can someone please verify that this has been acknowledged as a problem anywhere? I am so tired of people blaming summoners for peeling aggro or not knowing how to play, etc. Something is seriously borked.

I have observed this mostly with the necro, but apparently it is happening for other classes as well. I have seen while playing a necro, while playing a tank, while playing other classes in a group. It happens nearly ALL the time and can cause some serious issues. I have shelved my summoner for the last couple months because it is such a nuisance. So has my husband.

There are multiple scattered posts about it that inevitably have the same bologna responses because people are not taking the time to read through and/or they get reposted to "class" specific forums where they get buried. Comon.

It's been several months and I am tired of trolling the forums looking for solutions, and only getting frustrated to see the problem reposted over and over with no solution or recognition that it is even a problem.

I actually box a necro and mystic and watching the aggro bounce back and forth is quite funny. I don't care who gets the aggro at this point because the heals are good. My concern will heighten when I actually do more challenging things with the necro.

A) can somoene stop Tuor from posting

B) can we get confirmation that this is going to be looked into.

Well, the lack of any acknowledgement or word of an upcoming fix on this is one of the main reasons my household has cancelled 3/4 accounts. There are other factors of disappointment that have contributed, but this is high up on the list. The only reason I have left one remaining account is to continue raiding on my main, but I'm not going to hold out forever waiting for SOE to get it together. The nuisance factor right now is outweighing the enjoyment for us.

We have been loyal Everquest customers since the original game. I really hope this, among other things, gets straightened out.

Wish dev's would at least acknowledge this.. have to spec out of teamwork just to get this problem to stop is ridiculous. Problems happen.. bugs happen.. great.. but it's been reported, it's been discussed.. it's even been isolated.. so why not address it?

Looking for a fix because it's a royal pain the rear, especially if you end up in a group with a body puller.

keep this thread alive folks.

Anaugi - Oasis.

Yep this is extremely annoying--also, the fact that melee pets dont use their abilities and that's been bugged for AGES and reported over and over and over with not even a reply from SOE.

I PM'd multiple devs about this in the last ~6 months. PM'd Domino, and she saidshe had passed it on to Silius and Lyndro. That was in September. Either they never figured it out, or never looked into it, I guess. But hey... new content-less expansion! /waves shiny thing to distract you all.

So I've noticed this with leveling a new mystic up recently. The mobs that auto engage have always done this (like quest spawned mobs), but something new is going on with just normal aggro. I can train through a zone and all the mobs will be chasing my pet instead of me. He has no procs, wards, or buffs and might not even have engaged a single mob the entire zone, but they are all over him when just getting prox aggro.
