First a little background info. Today I upgraded several components in my computer. I upgraded the motherboard, cpu, video card, ram, and power supply. I kept my main HD and my storage HD. Before installing the new components, I made backups of the files I wanted to keep on my storage drive, just incase I needed to reformat my main drive.

Turns out I did need to reformat the main drive due to all the upgrades. The main drive was wiped clean and a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit was made. Went through the entire process of updating drivers, Windows, etc etc. All was working well again.

Now it came time to copy my EQ2 games folder from the storage drive back to the main drive. That done, I go to launch the game, and when I hit Play on the launcher I get this Application error : "The application was unable to start correctly (Oxc000007b). Click OK to close the application." So I thought, since I'm using an old launcher (the one that still says Sentinel's Fate on it), maybe there is some conflict going on. I download the new launcher, and using the same directory, fire it up. It downloads a few files and then the Play button appears. I hit play, same error happens.

At this point I'm thinking there must be a corrupt file somewhere so I delete the EQ2 folder from my main drive and copy my husband's EQ2 folder from his computer (which is working fine) to mine. I run the launcher and get the same exact application error. I'm at a loss what to do next. The game was working fine before all of the upgrades.

I did search for this particular error and some are saying it's from a worm/virus. Some say it's something else. I've run scans with my antivirus and Malware Bytes and both are coming back with zero infections.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

We're currently doing a complete reformat of the HD and a re-install of Windows 7. So if I'm still having the problem after doing this I'll post the dxdiag info for you.

Last night I let the game re-download the entire game into a new directory and had the same application error. We're currently thinking there may be something corrupt/misconfigured with the install of Windows. Sooo..we're starting over. Will update here once this is done.

Thanks!

Well I don't want to jinx myself, but so far so good. No clue what the problem was, but after a reformat and reinstall of Windows, things seem to be working.

Also changed some settings on the mobo/bios, used a Sata 6g cable and port (as opposed to using a Sata 3 port and cable before). Copied the game files from a different computer (not the storage HD), game booted up fine. Got a bit braver (still wasn't sure if it was the storage drive causing the problem) and copied specific game files from the storage drive (UI settings files, addons, etc) to the main drive. Ran the game, it worked.

Soooo..in the end, still unsure what specifically was the problem, but it appears to be fixed at the moment. Let's hope it continues to stay this way! hehe

Now to enjoy the game with all the new shinies working!
