View Full Version : Vampier Bats - Name/Look change for Conjurors - Air Daggers..?

This has been bothering me for a long time. (Almost 6 or 7 years?) As a Conjuror I find it very out of character to cast vampire bats. That spell seems very necromancer oriented. I understand that it came from the Bloodline adventure pack and the name was fitting for the time. However, NO ONE relates this spell to that adventure pack anymore. Infact, there was only one version of it before and you could only get it through a drop from Bloodlines.. Now you get it automatically..So I don't see why ELEMENTAL conjurors should be summoning VAMPIRE bats to attack their enemies.

Keep the effect/damage the same. I suggest a simple name change and particle effect for us conjurors to keep the ELEMENTAL theme going.

Since we have a fire spell, earth spell, water (ice) spell, to constanty cast I suggest an air spell to complete the 4 (elemental theme)

My name suggestions.

- Air Daggers (simple..I like it) (Conjuror summons hundreds of tiny air daggers to pierce his/her opponents over time.)

- Slicing winds

- Air blast

- Windstorm

something like that..

This is not gamebreaking... Just a simple humble request from a long time devoted Conjuror player.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And besides I like it as it is.

It also wouldn't make much sense to change the name to an elemental themed spell, since the spell does piercing damage.

All 12 classes share a spell among them. For Summoners it happens to be Vampire Bats (little bit of trivia, the original name was Swarm of Bats; it wasn't called Vampire Bats until Kunark).

I strongly suggest "Herd of Cows", nothing better than pummelling your enemies with bovines.

This would be a great opportunity to re-introduce the blue ape. Would be awesome to summon a "Cloud of Vampire Huuptiks" and throw them all at the enemy.

It wasn't always the top rank.

It wasn't a "line" at all. There was one spell, L35, Swarm of Bats. It was the Bloodlines spell. It was turned into a "line" of spells well afterwards. Years. Summoners complained that it didn't upgrade, so SOE looked at it and decided it would be ok to upgrade and did it, creating a line of spells that started with Swarm of Bats at L35. I don't remember precisely when that happened. It may even have been retrofitted downwards too, but I am not sure about that.

You know what spell line I miss? The "Shock of Various Sharp Objects" ones...like Shock of Swords and such. /ponder... Magicians had that line of spells in EQ1, no reason it can't exist in this game...keep in mind my conjuror isn't very high level so if it already exists as one of our spell lines...then I have no clue about it lol. Therefore feel free to correct me. Those spells did magical damage but the spell effect was a bunch of sharp stuff slashing at the enemy. It would be perfect.

I honestly forgot what the different tiered names of them were called, but I do remember back at launch immediately associating that spell line with the Shock of Blades line from EQ1.

Yep, before they renamed all the spells into a numerical progression, there was a closer tie to the EQ1 line. It definitely tied what is now Crystal Blast to the Blades spells from EQ1.

Doom Judgement for crusaders. Most of those spells were actually useful and having resist rates on grey spells was less than intelligent.

And yes, the name changed with each rank.

Meh, still think Vampire Bats would be closer.

Yes, I remember those old polls now. I believe Conjurors picked "Swarm of Bats" while Necromancers picked "Vampire Bats". Overall Vampire Bats got the largest share of the vote between both classes, so they went with Vampire Bats. The only other option that I can recall was "Plague of Bats, and that garnered the least votes of all.

They used a similar process for all other classes that shared spell names. The overall vote won, and every class had to stick with it in the end.
