We've got some really great news! We now have an official SOE Server Status Page! The page includes server status information for the following games:

EverQuest II Extended

EverQuest II

EverQuest

Star Wars: Galaxies

DC Universe Online

Check it out here: http://www.soe.com/status.

The information on this page will include up-to-date region, server name, status, and server load information.

I will point out a caveat to reading these status indicators. A server like Valor can handle a lot lower amount of players than either AB or Freeport. So when you see it reading High it might be comparible to say Medium with AB. So please keep that in mind when attempting to make server comparisons.

Very nice! Better yet when you turn highlighting on.

A couple of comments:

1. Why is the Beta server listed on there? 2. How about a legend for the status icons? I get it but it's possible not everyone will.3. Refreshing with highlighting on drops the highlighting on the game you refreshed.4. How about a link to upcoming downtimes for the games? The EQ2 Network Status page has that, though it being collapsed always made it not noticed by many.

Population, as has been stated many times, is the # of concurrent users online. DanKinney, Thanks for your work on this. Is there any concern that the "fail" condition (down, locked, and missing are all false) defaults to the server being "up"? This could present false positives.

Yes - we are modeling the privacy settings to be everyone, my guild, my friends, just me. Some stuff (like "my friends") won't be fully there until we have the ability to pull your friends from our archaic wonderful chat system. But still, we need to be able to identify the person requesting the data. When in the context of web page (with UI), this is straightforward. In a blind data pull, we need to do a little more work. Not impossible, but work nonetheless.

We should start with providing feeds of items, spells, etc. I think this should be available already. Lemme go check.

-dan

Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for having the "as of" time available through this feed, but I'm wondering if there shouldn't be either a new status or a time threshold that changes the status once it's been a certain amount of time. This is what the status looks like for EQ2 right now:

Once it's been over 18 hours since an update, we're not really showing the status of anything other than the reporting feed. I heard people mentioning that Nagafen was down so I went to the status page to see if it was back up yet. No clue, last update was over 18 hours ago.

Also, I wonder how the howLongAgo function will react if the numbers get larger than they were ever intended to get. Once it goes over 24 hours, does it flip back to 0? If not, what happens if it goes over 100 hours? Does it flip to 0 then?

I restarted the process that pulls the data from our monitoring system. For some reason, it got stuck.

I'll also add some extra monitoring to alert us when this data gets very old (way before 18 hours) so that I know that it is happening. I didn't know until someone from community pinged me.

-dan

If you notice that it is stuck - at 1pm on a Wednesday or even 1am on a Saturday - send me an email at [email protected] and I'll take a look. I may not get the email right away (I do sleep from time to time), but I'll get on it as quickly as possible.

We will be adding more internal monitoring of the process so that we can detect it much earlier.

-dan

Some thoughts: The page doesn't seem very reliable about remembering changes you've made even with all cookies enabled and logged in. Wouldn't it be more sensible for the default display to be 'collapse all' instead of 'show all'? I doubt anyone that uses the page is ever going to want to check the server list for every game. The page does not include the status of the login servers. I realise this is probably much harder to monitor but the state of the other servers is totally irrelevant if we can't get past the login servers to reach them. There's an awful lot of glaring white in the page background. That's not a good thing for those of us with varying degrees of photosensitivity.

What's the point of having a flashy new server status page if it doesn't report correctly. Oasis server just kicked me off and is saying server down on log in screen... yet the status page says all systems go.

Is this another fail???

As far as I can tell... the way it works is:

- If the servers are up... they'll show as up and the status page will update every few minutes.

- If the servers are down... they'll show as up but will not update until they are actually up again... which then leads back to number 1. It's a great way to show the boss that the servers were never down.

  Fail...

If the game system stops reporting, then the data will get old.

There is a system that lives between the "status" (what you see on the page) and the "game". There is a middleman system that we use to monitor statistics. We use this as a push/pull. Each game server pushes status to the monitoring system while other systems (like our status page), pull information from that system.

We represent the age of the data that we get from the monitoring system with our status so that you can know the credibility of the data, but it appears that the monitoring system gets into a mood. This will be most apparent if a lot if a lot of different servers (across multiple games even) are late reporting.

-dan

Is there any way we could get the Login server on that list? Or at least include this data in the feed? If the Login server(s) are down, it doesn't really matter if the servers are up because no new players can log into them. Thanks again for the hard work on this!
