View Full Version : Simply targeting mob = auto attack?

Level 88 Conjuror

This started happening a few days ago and I can't figure it out. In the past I'd target a mob and have my tank pet engage it. Then I'd target another mob and have my tank pet engage it in addition to the first one. I'd do this (target, send pet, target, send pet, etc) until my pet had what I considered a pretty healthy group of mobs and then I'd target my pet and burn them down while he maintained aggro. Been doing this for quite a few years...

A few days ago I noticed that after the first engagement, any additional mob I targeted would cause ME to engage it before I could send my pet in. The mob would come straight for me and I'd have to take punishment before my pet gained aggro. Needless to say, I can't have my pet aggro and engage multiple mobs any more.

Does anyone know what's happening or have you experienced this? What do I look for?

EDIT:

I followed Xalmat's AA guide after GU61. I have 220 AA.

I'm noticing odd things that put me in combat that didin't used to before. I bet it has something to do with the ranged auto-attack weapon.

I had this happening last night. I would be fighting a mob, if i clicked on another mob, they would take the damage of what ever dot i had on the original mob, and come strait at me.

Thanks Xalmat! I picked up a ranged slot item the other day. As soon as I removed it, the problem went away... Along with 40 int, 40 sta plus other goodies...

aITEM -967293824 431149629:[Wand of Lost Souls]/a

Is there any way to turn off the ranged auto-attack?

I've noticed a big issue with Spell Weapon auto attack. Every time the tank pulls something, I'm immediately auto attacking. I think there needs to a be something offered where we can shut it off at least. It's making Spell Weapon auto attack useless because I'd rather not equip it all to save the group.

The only reliable way to turn the autoattack off is to unequip the item. The implementation is absolutely terrible, since a lot of things will put us into combat with those items equipped.

I remember a Drunder visit where I had to revive. I used Essence shift to gain some power back (which activated ranged autoattack....), started to run after the rest of the group and targetted the the tank that was well ahead of me....and nearly fell off the ledge because of that.

Those weapons have a lot more drawbacks than advantages.

The mage auto attack starts when you cast anything. So best is to not have an enemy as target when you casting something before the fight has started, pre buffs, shards, buffs...

Hope they change is to only hostile spells, that would solve the problem. Or that mage auto attack only starts if you are already in combat (maybe that's easier to implement since there are already spells that have that condition)

Or they could just scrap the whole stupid idea with the "Mage autoattack" and replace it with a 100% damage proc that will trigger on any spell attack.

That would solve a lot of problems, including the hit rate.

Having the same issues with healer ranged attack on those wands. Not a big fan at all.

I do keep my fire shield and fire weapon on the tank, and sometimes I'm casting buffs on my pet, but nothing DIRECTLY at the mob. They really should fix this. I agree with the idea you have about it being hostile spells only.
