Hi all, Just wondering what the better solo classes are nowadays. I'm a new player starting fresh so please keep that in mind. I'm trying to decide between a bruiser, necro, or one of the rogue classes. I'd like a class that's can get a grp as well, but usually I play a dps role. Also is it beneficial to lvl lock still for aa's or should you lvl to max then worry about aa's. Thanks!

I play a conj and like her for the company that stalks her (pets) but if you are gonna play a squishy be sure to get AA's and keep your spell research uptodate. I have had to 'catch up' but notice a huge difference doing so. My conj is 88 now.I like my pally, and my zerker. These are my 3 toons I play primarily.

I would recommend a conjuror. A nerco is good too but i dont care for the evils cities, I prefer Halas which is good.

I think a monk is a better choice than a bruiser. I haven't played a scout class so I can't comment on that.

You can get in groups with about every characters when you hit 90.

As far as AA"s, I would recommend getting as many as you can before level 30. Having over 200 AA"s is important by time you reach 90 and Destiny of Velious. If you dont have that many AA"s you will get killed in DOV zones.

Ah why is monk better than bruiser?? When you say spell research, I should be crafting my own? Is it a pain to get the materials? I'm leaning to summoner. I also heard there's an aa nerf coming soon, what is that about?

He may also mean try your best to get them upgraded into adepts from apprentice, makes a huge difference. Hope this helps.

Best Solo Class is Inquisitor.Second best would be Defiler.

Why do you say that? What roles do inq / defs play in groups?

It really depends upon how you characterize a good solo class. If you are looking for something that will kill the most powerful mobs, then inquisitor is probably correct, though tanks in general do pretty well. However, if you are looking for the fastest leveling machine, monk and sk are better than any healer. Further, predators and rogues can level quickly too.

I don't need to be able to take on the hardest stuff in the game but I'd like to be able to solo dungeons for quick cash etc.. Leveling fast and grinding aa's are a plus.

They are great soloers (possibly easiest to solo of all scout classes) and can bring a lot of DPS to a group.

I did a bit of research on brigands, they seem like a really cool class. Are they very equipment heavy starting off, or can I get away with the basic stuff, I don't have any way to "twink" out a character..

Also, without a viable self heal, are they decent solo farmers?

Thanks for all the help!

Defiler can be a good solo class, but that takes a lot of gear to do so, especially at higher levels. I'd pick Bruiser. Close mind, FD, great survivability. It's good fun for sure!

You can play any class without twinking for quite a while. The first levels pass very quickly so unless you are level locked anything you twink on them is wasted. Your average gear that you get from quests is sufficent as is MC armor probably until you hit level 40 or 50 and if you are diligent you could probably make do until you are heavier into dungeons as opposed to leveling. As for farming, it depends on what you are farming. Harvesting and shinies is a piece of cake if you have a pet. If you just want to mow down lots of mobs, go for a heavy hitting AOE'er. I love my Brig but she is pretty much one on one while a Swash can go in and blast out an area.

The way you play makes all the difference in the world: how much questing you want to do, how patient you are, how skilled you are as a gamer, how fast your reflexes are, how much time and effort you want to put in to learning your class, even how much you love to blow stuff up or fight in close with stabbies. It's totally personal.

I'll add that it is a good thing to try many classes. Often it's the case that a class you blew off early on turns out to be your true love... you just never know.

Defilers are the best soloers in the game, but they take 10 years to solo something, Defilers can solo raid mobs.

I think i've got it narrowed down to a swash / brigand, or bruiser / monk. From everything I see, bruiser will do better solo endgame, but don't really fill a DPS role. Any brigands / swashies out there have opinions on this? Just wondering how well they do with everything previously stated (leveling, AA grinds, soloing plat / instances, etc...)

Thanks!

Ekirtzz wrote:

From everything I see, bruiser will do better solo endgame, but don't really fill a DPS role.

Bruisers can do some wicked damage. I have a bruiser I enjoy playing, and not an ogre or whatever....it's a halfling. The damage is brutal. Granted, I put the XP slider all the way to AA-gathering at level 12, got a full set of tier 2 Mastercrafted stuff, and farmed AA's for a while, but that only makes the attacks more devastating. Considering you could conceivably farm all 300 AA's (even though you can only spend 150 of them before level 70), that's a lot of mileage out of a low-end MC set for AA's that make soloability a snap.

And although that bruiser is not high enough for raids, a DPS role comes quite easily in dungeons.

Understood, I'm going to start out trying a brigand, and see how I like it. I may not be able to solo raid level mobs, but as long as i can hold my own after learning the in's / out's of the class, I'm sure i'll be happy with my class choice. Especially if they are good DPS in groups / raids, that just adds another + to this class.

I just soloed from 80 to 90 in about 10 nights of game play on my Brigand. Brigs can fill in as a tank in a group setting as well has ho0ld thier own on the DPS charts. Once you can start using vitality breach poisions u gain some self healing ability.

Good luck!!

The game is too easy ot worry about a best solo class.

Now, if your intentions in EQ2 involve soloing to 90 and saying 'I win' and quitting, then you can pick from several classes that are the most trivial at that task.

However if your intentions with playing eq2 extend beyond leveling 90 and leaving the game, you might want to evaluate your class choice on just a little bit more than what is easiest, cause they are _all_ easy.

I actually found my warlock the easiest to solo heroic content with, but a bruiser is right up there too.

For soloing:

1. Necro or Conjurer are good, give the edge to necro until you get good gear (at which point the conjy heal becomes close to a pet complete heal, until then tainted heals usually works better). Tainted heals, good dps, heals, feign death. Kills fast, can kill hard mobs (but not as tough of mobs as some other classes as pet hp don't scale at all).

2. Bruiser or Monk. Kill reasonably fast, extreme survivability. Ability to solo difficult mobs. Can FD skip past trash and go right to the bosses in zones. However, unless extremely geared, their ability to solo hard mobs consistently relies partially on mending adornment procs, which probably aren't working as intended and may get changed in the future.

3. SK or Paladin. Solo pretty well, not as good as pre fighter heal nerfs, though. If you want a plate tank class pick one of these if you wanna solo, but if you just want a tank that solos go for bruiser or monk.

4. Inquisitor. The overpowered healer (tm). Yeah. Nothing more needs to be said. Good at absolutely everything. Good dps, good power management, great soloer, can solo hard mobs like a defiler can and they won't make you want to cry to level one up as a new player.

5. Defiler and Mystic solo well in that they can kill hard things when geared. Defiler can kill super hard mobs (some x2 raid stuff can be soloed by a defiler in velious, for example). Mystics level up faster and easier though (much, in my opinion--leveling a defiler could be almost unbearable as a new player!). Defilers kill extremely slowly, at least unless extremely geared, making them really not the best option imho, unless you feel like trying to take on extremely hard mobs on occasion, once you are geared up and at the level cap. I think a lot of people two box a defiler or mystic with a tank.

If you are looking for a fun solo leveling experience really check out necro or conjurer or SK or mystic imho. If you are loooking to play the current "overpowered" classes (and there's nothing wrong with that, there's always going to be a class or two that is stronger than the others) then you want a Brawler (monk or bruiser) or an Inquisitor, at the moment.

Imho all classes can solo, and most can solo hard things if geared very well, but i'd avoid, as a new player wanting to solo well: templars, bards, scouts, predators, guardian/berserker. Druids solo well but can't live up to the overpowered goodness that is inquisitors at the moment. Wizard and Warlock solo well, extremely well for easier mobs, but not as good as necro/conj when it comes to soloing heroic stuff.

Thank you very much. My intentions are to focus on getting lvl 90 with 300 aa's then see what the end game actually has to offer. I usually play dps casters so it's nice to hear that necros are an option. The inq seems cool as well, I dont have any class to compare them too. Ht it seems like a wow shaman.. I think I'm leaning towards necro if they are solo viable because I really enjoy caster dps. Thanks.

I find my illusionist pretty easy to solo, especially since they added theorems single target DPS is much nicer now and both you and the pet can root so its easy not to get hit by the heavy hitting mobs

As most have said just about all classes can solo fairly well but IMO for your first toon i'd go with monk/bruiser over a scout class as they are cheaper to gear up. Those both have an FD and a self heal. Mage class are prolly cheaper to gear up but being squishy requires a bit more skill to play. I would harvest shinies at a low level and sell all of your treasured gear you cant use even tier 1 brings 5g+/per item because of adorning. Join a guild they will have crafters to help you with gear and maybe people who will be willing to help you run some lower lvl content on their alts especially if you run HQ's on guilds lower than 90. Monk was my first class to 80 ( old level cap ) once you hit cap with one toon soloing gear heavy alts is easier because you have the coin to equip them.

There is nothing like a best solo class.

Do you mean

- the fastest to solo quests ?

- the fastest to grind solo mobs ?

- the fastest to grind aoe mobs ?

- the one that can solo yellow ^^^ and instances ?

Moreover it may be encounter specific, a crusader is way way better in lower sebilis. It also depends on the level, till 90 crusaders/monks are probably better to solo heroics, at 90 healers (inqui/warden/mystic) do better.

- scouts are probably the best to grind quest (track, evac, high dps, stealth)

- scout/wizzards are good to grind solo mobs.

- Best aoe grinders are crusader and battlepriests (with manashield).

- Till 80 : Crusaders are good for yellow ^^^, they do better than tainted heal necro (because max improved tank pet still get 1 shot ) and healers (because they may get one shot too). Healers are the best as soon as the spikde dps is below their hp pool.

- At 90 : the major nerf on tanks hps remove them from the good soloer list. % base tank and healers are then the best.

Scouts are poor heroic soloers, ask a scout in ohmir gear to solo chief rygor ^^^ or a scout in rygor to solo Xagolti .... come and laugh.
