EQ2's in-game browser is based on Mozilla 1.3, currently Firefox is based on Mozilla 5.0 and most of the plugins and add-ons aren't compatible anymore.

You can try going into the mozilla folder under your EQ2 game directory and creating a user.js file with this in it:

pref("security.enable_java", false);pref("plugin.scan.plid.all", false);pref("plugin.scan.4xPluginFolder", false);pref("plugin.scan.SunJRE", "9.0");pref("plugin.scan.Acrobat", "20.0");pref("plugin.scan.Quicktime", "20.0");pref("plugin.scan.WindowsMediaPlayer", "20.0");

That should disable scanning for most of the plugins. It also means the browser won't do Flash, QuickTime, Java or the like, but I doubt you want any of that anyway since you probably won't be going to sites like Pandora or YouTube in the in-game browser anyway.

That worked like a charm thanks!

I use to love Firefox...it just became a pain to keep up with all the plugins , whats needed, whats not. There were popups/unders that were getting past the block. And loading seemed to get longer and longer. I bagged it. Why can't they just make a browser that is easy peasy for those of us that don't want to deal with files etc. Just want to puruse the web and do the basics.

I added just 3 add-ons: AdBlock Plus, Better Privacy (Flash cookies) and RefControl. That does most of it for me, and all of them auto-update just fine so I can pretty much ignore them. They take care of 99% of the crud. Load times have gotten a lot better with Firefox 5, the only one that takes a few seconds is the initial load after I've rebooted the machine and all the shared libraries have to be loaded. After that it's <1second to load up. Oh, that's with a local home page. If you use a home page somewhere on the Internet, expect to add however long that page takes to load up (which may be a while if it's someplace like Yahoo or Microsoft where they pile stuff onto the page).

One thing to remember: the stuff that you're complaining about tries it's best to work around the most sophisticated blocking and get to you. Given that, you can't expect blocking it to be easy.

This is not a connection issue and we already have a thread on this very topic in our General Tech Support forum. Locking this one up. However, I do appreciate the workaround and all the advice everyone has contributed. Just keeping the topics in the right place and removing duplicates so everyone can reference the same thing for information on the issue.

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=503891
