Earlier this week i had the game freeze on me while i was in Enchanted Lands, it happened in the afternoon and the late evening. The first time i had to shut the puter off by holding the power button to unstick it, the second time i waited and it finally worked again. The last time it did not unfreeze and i had to shut down using the powerbutton again.

For the last several months or so i have had no problems with game freezes and i only get them while playing eq2, not while doing anything else on my computer so it must be a issue with eq2.

Has anyone else had anything similar happen to them?

...or it could be an issue with your system/graphics card/processor being unable to run the game due to it being outdated, etc...

for example, if you are trying to run balanced or higher quality on a basic laptop...

It helps more if you provide your system details, etc...TSR's need more to go on then "the game freezes, so it must be the game". There are tons of mobs, etc that your system has to render in EL, and you may build up enough lag to crash your system...

To be honest i do not know who's fault it is, before this week i was having no problem running the game. True my system is not a gameing box, just a basic system that i added a 600w Corsair PSU and MSI GTS 1Gb 250 vid card to. I have windows vista home as the os.

I was just asking if anyone else had similar issues. The only recent changes i made was to buy the new green effect shield and lava sword appearence items to one character. I doubt this would cause the freezes i am experienceing, but i dunno. I cannot reinstall windows as i do not have the full installation disc, no idea if uninstalling/reinstalling eq would help or not. *shrug*

Maybe i will try again after the hardware upgrades are complete, or maybe i will just not play for awhile. Its just very frustrating not to be able to play the game when its been working fine for a long time. The only change i made in options was turing on water reflection so mirrors worked again, that was weeks ago and did not cause any issues as far as i could see...

Are you perchance using any UI with links for quest look ups? If you open up the in-game browser and go to a site that uses Flash ads, you will lock up or even crash to desktop. Zam's is a great resource, but uses flash ads and has caused problems for me as well.

I have had the same issue from time to time. Enchanted Lands is the most likely to lock up but it is happened in Ruins of Varsoon and Cazic Thule as well as the new Drunder zones.

Bladenkerst: Nope i am not using any links, I am in fact not using the in game browser at all since it crashed me in zek some time back.

My last freeze happened after i ported back to my guild hall in Freeport, so its not just EL that is the issue. Though EL is fraught with issues at times, like the driver error that messes with the screen then recovers.

I ran a complete scan for viruses with Norton Internet Security and came up clean, I also used norton utilities several times anything it fixed did not seem to have a baring on the game. Its only eq that is affected, none of my other programs cause freezes on my system. I just updated my driver for my vid card yesterday, no idea if that will help or not since for the last several weeks i was not having any issues with the game.... Did they start using phyxs in eq maybe?

Let's cover the basics, post your DXDIAG information, top 3 sections system/display/sound devices.

You can also delete your Cache folder in your EQII game folder to clear out a possible corrupt zone file.

Not entirely sure how to do that..... Might be a moot point anyway, ever since upgrading my vid driver I have not encountered the game freezes.

SC appearence items cannot cause game freezes if you have two or more on one character at a time, can they?

Appearently i spoke to soon, after gaming in other zones for hours with no problems i attempted to go to EL and the game froze again. Only EL does this, i have no issues with other zones, weird that one zone causes these issues. Guess i will just avoid EL entirely in future.

I deleted my casche file like you mentioned, but that did not change the freezes. THere is just something about EL that my computer does not like appearently.

I think i saw another casche file in the folder that had the casche folder, it might have been asset_casche, not pos. As to launchpad, I use the latest version of Station Launcher and am pretty sure i have it set for full scan by default. Is this what you are referring to?

How would i do that? via chat? I am not going to call a non-toll free number to do it, so what are my options? I cannot just delete the asset_casche folder like i did the casche folder? Not sure if PAKS is in there or not.

What? I do not get a reply because i refuse to make a toll call to get the steps for eliminating the EL files from asset_cache and the PAKS folders? You could just list the files to eliminate, or forward this to customer support so they can handle it. I asked for options, I should not have to pay for the help since i already subscribe so Station Access. I am sure a uninstall and reinstall would also take care of any corrupt files, I just do not want to have to take that extreme rout if its just the EL files borking my game.

Please give me some options on clearing up this issue.

If you have an asset_cache folder, you are using the streaming launcher and we cannot delete files from the PAKS because you do not have one.

Furthermore, the forums here do not guarantee an immediate response from our support staff, and my days off do fall in the middle of the week so I can be here on weekends like right now.

My signature has a link that reads How to Contact Support. In the article linked are all of our various methods of contact, such as Live chat, our phone lines, or opening a support ticket directly from our support site.

Yes i do have a PAKS folder. I tried the streaming launcher briefly when it first came out, but did not like it so i do not use it anymore. I use the station launcher exclusively, I just never uninstalled the streaming launcher.

I know I am not guaranteed a speedy response, but i did not think four days or more was speedy which is why i posted what i did. I apoligize for my impatience.

My best recommendation for you moving forward is to update to our latest LaunchPad for Everquest II as support for Station Launcher is very limited at this time. I've linked it for you below. I suggest the Full download version and installing over your existing EQII folder.

Now, I do need you to contact our support directly for any further assistance as we may need to walk you through the process.

I did not see the link in your last message, just the ones to contact support or do make a dxdiag report. I will try googleing it and see if i can find it that way.

Oh i uninstalled and reinstalled eq2 along with the station launcher, but so far its not completly updating, maybe the launch pad you refer to will get what the station launcher is having trouble with.
