I was able to play eq2 perfectly fine on both of my computers last night. Today after loggging in, the launcher gets stuck on "SCANNING" - Preparing

I tried repairing, uninstalling and reinstalling launcher, updated adobe plugin, checked station launcher version, ran windows update still no luck on either computer.

Are the servers down, or did an update occur that needs me to do something else?

No changes on our end overnight as far as I know. Try our standard cache/configuration clearing instructions.

You may want to make backups and then delete the following files and folders:

cache folder

eq2_recent.ini

eq2_default.ini

EverQuest2.exe

eq2.ini

As well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:

Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.ini

Stationname_characters.ini

To do this, please follow these directions:

1. First look for your EverQuest II Extended directory. You can find the default directory in (for Windows XP): C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest II (for Windows Vista/7): C:UsersPublicSony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest II

2. Click on MY COMPUTER and then proceed into local disk C:

3. Navigate your way to the default directory, or your chosen installation directory.

4. Next look for any files explained above and delete them.

5. Afterwards, please start EverQuest II to have these files re-downloaded by the patcher.

If deleting these files does not resolve your issue, you can restore your backed up files and folders and retain your hotkeys, contact lists, and display settings.

I am also having this same problem. I went thru and deleted all the files listed, and it still won't work. The launcher is "stuck" on Scanning but doesn't seem to be scanning anything at all. I went into the preferences and clicked for a full scan run, and it still does nothing.

I am running XP

Help please.....

Are you all using our latest LaunchPad? If you are using an older patch method, I recommend downloading the Full version linked below and re-using your existing EQII folder. We also have a streaming LaunchPad available as well.

[EQII] LaunchPad

I was getting help for a character creation I was having and in the process, got a new launcher from the above links mentioned above. It was kinda handy, though a bit more awkward when wanting to change accounts...but today when getting ready to play eq2, I noticed the icon shortcut was different, I clicked on it and this came up:

What, may I ask is that and what do I do with it and what happened to the launcher I was using just this weekend?

I did notttthhhiinnnng since the help I got last week for the character creation problem I was having. I just all of a sudden noticed the icon had changed and it suddenly was loading the wrong thing. This is the shortcut that thing is using...:

"C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest IILaunchPad.exe"

The directory is correct, is the .exe right?

There are on launchers at either of those locations. THe only other launcher I can find on my system is this one:

This one works, but isn't the new one that I got after the work we did last week. That one WAS where this one was now.....though why it's now so old is beyond me since I haven't changed anything since last week.

PS I went ahead and installed the new launcher again and got this (and my icon switched back to the right one, but it's kinda creeping me out a bit as I sure didn't switch my shortcuts or change launchers....if it does it again, I'm calling Ghostbusters

That's very, very, odd. You could always backup your PAKS and UI folders/files and delete the rest altogether. Reinstall the LP3 then move the PAKS and UI folders back. Would prevent a reoccurrence from the Ghost of LaunchPad Past!

Ok....I'm using the new launcher that was somehow never downloaded before and I had no idea even existed...though I have purchased multiple copies of every expansion to date for 3 accounts. Why am i just now "finding" this??

Also.....how do you open a second account on the same PC with this launcher? I've loaded the game on account X, then reloaded the patcher, gone into "account" and logged out...then logged in to account Y. However, the launcher still shows me as "playing" and there is no obvious way to actually open and use the account Y.....though account Y is shown on the bottom right of the launcher.

What am i missing?
