Hi all, I just had a question that I was hoping to get a little help with. So, what I am wanting to find out is if there is a "golden path" questline that will really tell the story of what is going in Norrath. Not the current zone that you are in but the whole world itself.

Exapmle- I have seen the void creatures out Lavastorm also up in Stonebrunt highlands and Nek Forest. So my point here is, I know that there is a story behind why they are here and I would like to quest along and find out why that is.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am not ONLY wanting to find out about the void, I just gave that as an example because I know it is something that is affecting Norrath. So, I just want to find a path that would take me along the way to uncover all of these things of the world. I'm not really concerned with "Kill me ten badgers because I am hungry" kind of quests...... Unless they lead so some dark secret that plagues Norrath ;p

If I am too confusing on my writing, please let me know what you are questioning and I will try to clarify. Thanks!

The overall main story in eq2 is an epic quest the Age Ends prophecy. There are quite a few side quests that add to the story and very little connecting them all together.

Release main questIt is minorly touched upon during the prismatic questline with Nagafen giving a brief lore about prismatic dragons.* side quest on venekor (part of the awakened cult)and him trapping frogluks.Desert of flamesThe next part of the quest moves into the prismatic 2 and peacock club and gives a brief story on anashti sul and the ewer of sul Dae (item that brought undeath to norrath)

KOSThe next part of the quest moves into the claymore quest, which is 1 of two godkilling weapons used by rhoen theer.Another major part of the quest is really kerefym lair access this explains the cult of the awakened and kerefym the only prismatic dragon.

Isle of mara, Short quest of killing cheldrak and freeing Zeburox who gives you the prophecy

EOFThe next part of the quest involves the soulfire wich is the other godkilling weapon used by rhoen theer. you also learn of mayong and his quest to prevent? the age end prophecy. Gods return can do them to learn about specific gods.

ROK-Chelsith and the calander prophecy in the mythical quests, learn about your class mythical and planar weapons. Finish the main epic quest learn that people are being posessed by the void and thier impending invasion. Rime invasion in kurns and void taking over kurns tower.

TSO-anashti sul is leading a void invasion and we set her free from the void, Equip both claymore and soulfire after killing anshti to see calander of events. SF-Dartain quest brings back al kabor, Live event brough back firona vie, void invasion, rhoen theer trying to come back and kill gods, We strip the extra planar power from our mythicals, give that spell to kerefym and help him steal the godkilling powers from claymore/soulfire as we stop rhoen theer from invading.

DOV part 1-Help alkabor research, kill rime faction leader, kill leader of giants. god of war invading to kill kerefyrm.GU61 stop god of war invasion free the lesser gods of warDOV part 2-Ntov? Stop kerefyrm.? Lucan gets EVIL......

Future-When kerefyrm is finally stopped and rhoen theers godkilling weapon powers are safe the age end prophecy is over and soe promised a new antagonist and new lore. My hope is for the far seas trading company to get EVIL and we have evil pirates. maybe some new MMO tech and gameplay like sea battles on ships and castle seiges. I am ready to move away from the dragon age. of course we can have a fantasy game still with mermaids and sirens and wyverns and the odd occasional but extremely rare dragon.

Pretty much have to do the solo questlines for all the expansions (and most of them will eventually lead into group and epic content for the story) in order to find out what's going on.

ok, first off... Wow, awesome post Gungo, thanks. But from what it seems, and by what Cusashorn posted, it would seem that no mattter what, to really soak in the true story, you have to raid. Is this really the case? I hope not, I never raid.

Well, with the last 4 or so expansions, most of the game's story gets told through solo questlines, but raiding will ultimately be required to FINISH the story. Unfortunately for Velious, most of the story is told through grouping and not the solo lines. They're still important to complete though.

As Cusa said the main story in eq2 "Age end prophecy" starts off epic and goes into heroic in DOV. It mainly is about a very powerful dragon who is [Removed for Content] off at veeshan and a few other gods and wants to kill them all.

But kerefyrm killing the gods will also mean our demise. Furthermore he took godlike powers from the claymore/soulfire which he cannot control. Right now Rallos zek just wants to kill him so he is currently leading an invasion in velious toward kerefyrm. The problem is killing kerefyrm with the uncontrolled god powers within him will release that power and also destroy us. So first we need to stop rallos. Then we need to strip kerefyrm of the god powers and give it back to Rhoen theer since he is the only one to control it. Then we need to kill/imprison kerefyrm. Somewhere before we kill kerefyrm we need to raid ALOT of dragons who have joined kerefyrm's cult of the awakened. These dragons are [Removed for Content] off at the mortals and gods since the age of dragons is dying and the mortals have been on a rampage killing off dragons like crazy.

Thats pretty much the jist of the story. Some players I am not 100% sure what there involvement is. I forget why we invaded veeshans peak and needed to kill trakanon since he wasnt a part of the cult of awakened. There are some other powerful characters running around such as mirigul and lucan even nagafen those characters are pretty much not directly involved with the main story and are mostly just self surving individuals who are in search of power. Then there are a few powerful individuals who are trying to stop the age end prophecy fironia vie, alkabor, and vrewwx even Mayong although technically evil seems to want to stop the age end prophecy.

My post was just explaining really why we are doing what we are doing and in some cases I left out a few side scenarios that wasnt a direct part of age ends such as the underfoot issue with killing yael and stopping him from pulling norrath into the plane of the underfoot and thus destroying us again.

But yes we have to raid to do the entire story. Most of the text quest lore however comes from heroic quests leading up to raid targets.

I honestly think the only reason why players raided Veeshan's Peak was because it was there. None of the text or quests ever gave any justified reason to go there and attack anyone besides Trakanon, and the reasons to attack him were iffy at best.

I know each of the mythical quests gave some minor reason for killing them, but other than that it boiled down to kill them all because some disgruntled janitor said so.

And killing Trakanon didn't really have much of an explanation aside from him not wanting to give up his piece of the Chelsith stone.

They also never bothered to explain how why he became leader and why he isn't rotting. My personal theory is that even though the halfling was possessed by the void and sent us there, Mayong wanted us to do it as well. There is no way that just happened to go as he would have wanted it to.

All-in-all though, that portion of RoK's lore was incredibly lacking and poor.

You know with Cross-server instances I hear about coming soon, I wonder if we could get some lore-hunter groups and raids together? I know I want to finish off Trak and get my Chelsith stone but the Raids I was on didn't go after him...I wonder if I have the flag for Trak I need to check.

Just doing the solo quests or just doing the timelines or just doing the raid content wouldn't answer your question about the Shadowmen hanging out in the Commonlands. Honestly, if you want to know the lore of EQ2 you have to become a quest junkie. Not only do you have to take just about every quest handed out by every NPC but you have to go looking for book drops and clicking on every little thing you can find anywhere in the world.

About half of the Lore you can discover in the Obelisk of Lost Souls (an essential zone for Lore buffs interested in how the Void story was first alluded to before it was formally introduced) are introduced through clickable scroll cases that read like the early books in EQ2. Also some book quests drop there and there is a lot of "Kill 10 rats" type steps to advance those books. The end result of these painful to finish quests are books that reveil half of what we base Lore on.

If your really into Lore, you try to finish every quest in the game. Even if you don't succeed you should end up hearing enough to give you insight into most of what we're talking about around here. Heck, you'll even be able to point to quests in game to either support or refute what we're saying!
