well thier blue skin comes from the fact thier drinking water is basically contaminated by Velium...which is magical ore/ice composite from V's breath. so that could explain it right there.

but I think the title Frostreaver is mostly just a title. thier land is all ice and snow, adn thus thier titles also deal with ice and snow.

The titles Dain and Frostreaver were both taken from his name because the Coldain hold his actions as nothing short of legendary. Every leader of the Coldain has used his name as a title, and even what they call themselves is derived from his first name (Cold Dain).

I can't remember for sure, but I think he was lost when the coldain city in Crystal Caverns "fell" to the orcs. It could possibly be that he was killed even before that city was founded as it wasn't the first stronghold the Coldain created on Velious.

Also, Coldain don't exactly have innate ice powers. They're just really resistant to cold, I think. How else do you explain their women walking around in nothing but a leather/fur bikini?

Thurgadin: Long May She Stand Vol I-II. Tells the tale Tala.

The name Frostreaver was the name of Colin Dain and his volunteers to defend the 1st Coldain settlement of Froststone from the Kromif. They had been attacked and Colin as expedition leader sent those he had refused for volunteer in the fight to safety under Glight Snowchipper. The Frostreavers held off the Kromif assault to buy time for the rest of the Coldain to escape to safety.
