It all started when I loaded up my old streaming client launcher on my Vista computer.

I'd been away from the game for a couple of months, and now that the whole Sony problem is over with I thought it was a good time to get into it.

The launcher updated fully with a bit of coaxing (took a few scans and restarts) then simply wouldn't start the game.

I would make sure the game was updated, hit the Play button, then the Launcher would close as-per-usual, but nothing would appear to happen. However, Everquest2.exe would be up in Task Manager at around 30,000k doing nothing.

Attempting to start up the Launcher would show me as in-game unless I halted the process in Task Manager.

After wrestling with a number of solutions (renaming UI folders, running as administrator, compatibility mode, etc) I finally put my foot down at the 4 hour mark and decided to drop the streaming client and full-install, which is a big deal considering the fact that in Australia we still use internet caps. 12.4gb down the drain is nothing to scoff at over here.

Several hours later and the full download client is finished. I attempt to start the game, and it says that I have no disc in Drive D and continues to stall after hitting play in the same fashion, Task Manager showing the process and all.

I should also note that whenever I scan it shows the scan as "Checking (100%)" from the moment it begins, but will sit there scanning for a while. I don't know if that's relevant but there you go.

My first impression was disbelief, but I've checked online repeatedly to find a similar issue with no success.

I started off really wanting to get back into this game, but now I'm just demoralized. My computer is up to date on drivers, has no firewall or antivirus issues that could be blocking it, is well above recommended specs, and is even using one of the recommended and supported graphics cards.

You guys are my last hope before I uninstall this game. Help?

You say it tells you that there is no disk in drive D when you try to start the game?

That is not error messaging included in our software, that sounds Windows based. Please open a support ticket and attach your DXDIAG (you can post that here too, top 3 sections system/display/sound devices) and MSINFO file (much too big to post here) then PM me the incident number. I'll get you in game.

Sounds like a plan. We might end up saving somebody else the run-around.

Okay, I've been at it a really long time but I've finally found a solution to this problem.

There are many programs that exist which are designed to reroute or modify your IP address in order to facilitate certain habits (wanting to avoid being subclassed based on domain or IP) or to provide greater security (adding another layer of protection by providing a false IP address).

Apparently the EQ2 Launcher and main executable files are a bit finicky when it comes to this.

I've had it so long I'd just forgotten about it, but sneakily running in my background processes doing its job was an IP manipulating program. There are several of them out there but I won't reveal their names since you really shouldn't tinker with them unnecessarily.

Anyway, if you are suspicious about whether one is running in your background processes, open your Task Manager and click "Show Processes From All Users". Most programs of that nature are system tasks which won't show in your regular process list.

I disabled my IP rerouting program, reset my internet, restarted my machine and bam, the game loaded.

Thanks for attempting to help me, Joshua. Who knows; maybe your influence was what gave me the perspective to realize the possibility of this program's interference?

At the very least, your time encouraged me to keep trying and get my game running again, which I really do appreciate.

I only helped you look in the right direction of why your own system was preventing you from playing.
