Well the berserker and shadowknight are both good at damaging multiple enemies at once as well as killing them one one on one.

What about them did you not like? and what level did you get them to? The first 25 levels really don't give you much of a feel for the class.

Swashbucklers can do fine against multiple mobs, they have several aoes. When they get hit though they do get hit a bit harder than an SK or berserker would. Still can do quite well as far as I've seen.

Your observation about rangers is correct. They do have one true aoe but it's weak compared to their other abilities and though at higher levels they get a good encounter aoe, they are still much more effective one on one.

The difference between the 2 classes is that i really don't like the way the shield looks with the shadowknight...i also like dual wielding i feel that i do more damage that way, but i like the way the shadowknight plays quite well.

also between the levels i have taken both characters it seems that the shadowknight does more single target damage, i die considerably less with the shadowknight. is there a race distinguishment issue though because both chars are the kerra.

Hi there. I sent you a message to your private messages, not sure if you got it and read it or not but to me, personally, race isn't that big of an issue, maybe someone else will disagree but my main is a half-elf Paladin but I used to have a lot of different characters like a froglok conjuror that managed just fine. Shadowknights and the Berserker both will be able to take down stuff fairly quick later on with good gear and AAs. It never seems like the pace is very fast the first 40 levels, at least not with my experiences anyhow. Anyway, if you get a chance to read my message. Good luck to you friend.

I see now. I tried to send you another message and it wouldn't go through. It says you currently don't have permission to recieve messages....I don't know but anyway I was just asking what server you were on and if you were in a guild or not. Wasn't sure how far you were into the game but I have a guild that possibly could be right in your alley and there is always someone on to help out or answer any questions. If it doesn't fit you or if you want to stay on your server or if you already have a guild that is fine, I was only trying to give you another option. Anyway. here is all the information and I will still help through here if you decide not to go to Butcherblock. Again, not pushing, just giving an option.

Hello there!

The name of the guild is Dueling Hearts and we reside on the Butcherblock server. We are a guild that is here to help out as much as possible, talk and make friends, and just play the game as it is, a game. We do not allow drama and don't expect anything out of our players except to be polite. We don't push anyone, you play at your own pace and ask for help when you need it. We are a family style guild and a casual guild. We will never be a hardcore raiding guild since we are casual but we don't mind if you join the guild , then if you decide you want a raiding guild or something different at level 90, then that is fine, we will respect your decision. We have been around since Jan 21st of 2011 and are level 48 at the moment. I will put a list of do's and don'ts.

Do's:

We do train new players and answer any questions you may have. No questions are ever stupid in this guild.

We do group and do quests, dungeons, instances,Heritage quests, writs.

We do tend to be lazy sometimes and just talk to one another, make friends.

We do have a guild hall in North Qeynos. Full crafting area, broker, banker, tradeskill writs/fuel merchant, mender, junker merchant/faction items, globe, druid portals, guild hall call spell, and spires. We do have a unique jungle and cave in the guild hall. We have some neutral and evil guildies with guild doors in their houses for easy access.

We are always willing to help with anything as long as we are currently not busy.

We do put family and real life first. This is just a game, there is no worry on anyone getting upset if you don't log in very often.

We do joke around and have some mature humor in the guild. We will respect anyone if they deem something is offensive however.

We will give advice on anything BUT will not push you or force anything on you. It is just advice.

We do accept any alts you may have. We have no limit and rather like the fact you want to make this place your home. : )

We do have a promotion system for the people that may want to have a higher role in the guild later on. You get upped after the first 7 days of being in the guild, then the first 30 days. After that, it will be up to the current leaders and officers. It will depend on how much you do: status, responding and being polite and trust. Trust is a key thing here, we have been dealt a huge blow once and so far we are going strong after that mistake.

Don'ts:

We are not rude and will not put up with it or any drama. This is a place to relax, make friends, and just have fun.

We will never be a hardcore raiding guild because of the style of the guild.

We do not call people names or make fun of anyone.

We do not force or push anyone to do anything. We only expect people to be polite, that's it. Play at your own pace and play the game/character the way you want to.

We do not charge any guildie for anything. If we win a master that you can use, feel free to speak up, we will gladly give it to you with no charge. That works for anything in the guild bank. Rares, masters, legendary loot, fabled loot. We are a family after all.

We will not get mad if you want to leave the guild later because you want something new or a raiding guild. That is fine. Just please tell one of the recruiters or leaders and leave on a good note.

This is just a little piece of Dueling Hearts. If you would like to know more then please, post something on here and I will get back with you or check us out on the Butcherblock Server. You can also send an ingame mail to any of the people below with your characters name and he/she will be able to contact you that way as well. People you can contact are the following:

Lodoss/Gorst

Moonstricke

Quelfish/Jzorpe/Kaled

Tinkerblob

Howa/Onup/Swizzler

We hope to see a lot newer faces around the guild and welcome anyone and everyone to check us out!

Im on GUK because a friend of mine said he would play with me then he dissappeared on me...

As to the characters I really like both, just the shadowknight irratates me with the big shield unless i could find a better 2 hand weapon or if they are effective. the berserker doesnt have dots like the shadowknight, but he can dual wield which i like.

So do you know of anyone or anywhere i could see different sets of end-game armor from both because if i get there and don't like the way it looks then whats the point right?

Again, that is up to you if you want to change servers or at least get on Butcherblock to chat. My guild has all levels and classes, which we have a 90 Shadowknight and I am a 90 Paladin. I think we have a higher level Berserker as well. Anyway, let me know what you want to do and I will try to help, I gotta run for now.

I am actually going to log into the game now if you want to make a little char and talk a little bit with me on the game, if not then that is cool too. I will keep trying to help on here when I get on the forums.

My main has a bank full of appearance armor and a mount tab full of rides to match.

Appearance armor is pure win.

I second Edith's comment on the Appearance Slot! It used to break my heart when I outgrew a piece of armor that looked good on me and was forced to wear "better" things that looked ghastly! (What can I say... I'm vain!) With the appearance slot that's no longer an issue.

For example, my li'l Troubador is wearing Mastercrafted armor that is perfect for level but looks HORRIBLE! So I bought some cheap but good looking level-one armor for the appearance tab and now Trouby has fine armor and LOOKS great too!

WooHOO!

I'd start with getting as much gear with Strength on it that you can, and putting AA's in to the very first ability in the crusader line to get more strength too. Once you upgrade gear you can put those points elsewhere but for now STR is the stat you need most.

A mistake new players often make since lower levels go by so fast: Make sure you upgrade your armor and weapons so that they aren't gray (meaning they aren't really doing you any good anymore). If you are wearing level 2 armor and you are level 16 it would not be a surprise that you didn't like the class or were having trouble killing things.

Also make sure your spells and abilities are upgraded. Unlike other games, you don't train for the ability and that's it. You automatically get an 'apprentice' ability when you level. Better qualities of those are available either in drops from mobs or player crafted.

Take some time to study what you can do - SK is a class that is way more forgiving of button mashing than most - but if you really know what you are doing with that class (or any for that matter) it makes a world of difference. Race/class combo isn't as important in this game as others. My SK is a halfling...with decent gear it makes no difference if he's that or if he's an Ogre. The racial abilities are nice, but are not gamebreaking - even at endgame in hardcore raid forces.

And like Elizardbeth said - appearance tab means you don't have to worry about what the armor looks like - you can put together any look you want. Later levels have organized armor sets, but when 50 and 60 were end game, we all ran around looking like a bunch of patchwork quilts - nothing matched (this was before the appearance tab, you whippersnappers!) A plate wearer in this game can also equip any other class of armor (cloth, leather, chain..) so the options for you are greater than for, say, a wizard...who can only equip cloth. There are nice looking armor pieces everywhere - and if you want to buy some Station Cash has a few very nice sets, as well.

Hope this helps! Have fun with whatever class you decide.

If you want to kill fast and be effective against multiple mobs you want an AOE class. The Shadowknight, Paladin, and Berzerker all fit that bill. All the plate tanks will do MUCH better in Mastercrafter armor and gear until you're fairly high in level, and this makes a huge difference in survivability. As for damage, be sure to upgrade your combat arts from the default apprentice level ones you get automatically. Try to get at least Adept level spells for everything, and Expert or better for the ones you use the most.

If you don't like the way the shield looks, you do have an appearance tab, and after level 20 you can make your gear look like almost anything. My mystic, shown below, is actually wielding a hammer and a buckler:

I would also suggest trying a conjuror, and an inquisitor. The conjy has a pet that can tank for you, and can do some nice AOE damage. The inquisitor is a battle priest that wears plate, but can put out some awesome damage.

The nice thing is, you have at least seven character slots, so don't be afraid to experiment.

They changed it so you don't have to be level 20 to use appearance slots. I don't recall how low it is but it's pretty darn low because I used bronze armor and covered it up with the fuzzy stuff you used to get from the New Halas quest line on an alt I started when it was released.

I adore pet classes, and will offen look for them when starting a new MMO.

As for EQ2, I believe the conjuror and necromancer classes, are the best to start out with.

Using your "tanking" pet, you rock solo through the levels. If and when you group, you'll have your "mage" and "rogue" pets to choose from.

I'm not giving you the "be all say all" answer here, I'm a solo player myself and group only with family members ... or the guild they or I am in.
