Since Jun 12th I've started getting an "Application failed to start" 0xc000007b error after hitting play on the launcher. I tested some other applications and EQ2 is the only one affected.

I don't know a lot about computers, but I searched and found out some solutions. I uninstalled EQ2, did full anti-virus and anti-malware checks (found nothing) then used a registry cleaner to fix up that possible issue, and checked all drivers were up to date.

Re-installed EQ2 from the reinstallation download (12.5G full download) but still get the same error. Again, only EQ2 is affected.

As I say, I'm not very computer savvy, but since EQ2 apears to be the only app affected, was hoping you could help with a solution. Not sure what other info you will need, but I play on a laptop running Windows 7 if that's relevant.

Thanks

HF

Would you please post your DXDIAG information? Use the link in my signature for instructions. We only need the top 3 sections, System/Display/Sound Devices.

Hi mate.

Have attached top three sections of DXDIAG.

Some more info in case it's relevant: although I have the os set up to automatically check for drivers, I noticed my graphics card drivers were ~3 months old. I downloaded the very latest from ATI/AMD and installed them but there was no difference after launching eq2 - same error. Next time the os checked for updates it decided it didn't like the "new" drivers, and reinstalled an older version of the original drivers. Weird. Don't know if it's connected to my problem, but the same error occurrs whichever of the three driver versions were installed.

Anyway, here's the current status of my laptop:

------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 6/16/2011, 21:56:35 Machine name: HOME-PC Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110408-1631) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard System Model: HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~1.6GHz Memory: 4096MB RAMAvailable OS Memory: 4030MB RAM Page File: 2387MB used, 5670MB available Windows Dir: C:Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: 120 DPI (125 percent) System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.01.7601.17514 64bit Unicode------------DxDiag Notes------------ Display Tab 1: No problems found.
just out of curiousity - a number of years ago there was a worm that caused this type of crash by corrupting the .dll chain - even after a fresh install. Try downloading the free version of Malware Bytes from here and install it

http://www.malwarebytes.org/product...lwarebytes_free

then run a scan. It may not show anything but it is one step in trying to diagnose the issue. I like to use thie product as a second check when something is going hinky with a machine - even if it has a full av suite on it. Keep it installed on all my machines and run a secondary scan with it once a month

That would be the WORM_KLEZ.E virus. Just in case Malware Bytes or any other applications you use cannot find an infection, I do recommend opening a support ticket to attach your MSINFO file to. The MSINFO file contains a few sections showing running services and startup applications. This virus will typically rename the file itself to a commonly known EXE with a random set of letters/numbers attached to it. I can help you review your startup/running services to see if I can identify it and help you remove it manually.

If it is a virus, backing up your personal data and formatting/reinstalling would be the worst case scenario but we can try to clear it up manually.

Hi guys - I appreciate the help and efforts!

I do have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware on my machine. After the error appeared I reinstalled it and ran a full scan but it found nothing.

JoshuaM - just to be clear are you saying I should post the MSINFO data in here and in a separate support ticket submission, or just in a new ticket?

Just in a new ticket. MSINFO files are generally too large for the forums. It can be infinitely large due to any existing issues you might have on the PC as well.

Wondering if there has been a fix for this error as I am experiencing the same error, and would love to know how to get it working again.

Not really a widespread issue. Can you open a ticket with your MSINFO/DXDIAG files as well?

I've got your PM. I'm not in the office today to pick up the ticket itself but will as soon as possible. Another representative may pick it up before I get in as we are fairly caught up now!
