I seem to be having an issue with AA exp. I am adventure level 12, with 10 AA's and my AA slider at 100%, killing level 12 Blackshield pirates in Timorous Deep. When I kill one, I get the message "You convert 75 experience into AA experience!", but my AA bar often does not move one bit. Only about every 2nd to 4th pirate is giving me AA experience, at 3% per kill when it registers. I thought my AA grinding was going quite slow! Anyone have any suggestions as to if it's something on my end, or is this some kind of bug? I'm not using any mods, everything is default UI.

I have no vitality at the moment, but I'm not sure how that would affect whether I get AA exp or not. On a related note, I logged my lvl 38 warden to see if she experienced the same issue. In fact she did, only getting AA every second or third kill with the slider at 100%, and she does have vitality, around 60%.

Yes, I'm only getting normal exp, but shouldn't ALL of that 'normal' experience get converted to AA experience when I have my slider at 100%? It's not a matter of the exp for one kill being so miniscule that it just doesn't show up, because when it does move the bar, I get 3%.

It most likely a display bug. The game has trouble rounding numbers and showing the correct percentage.

Its been a while since I have seen an official explanation of the matter , but my understanding of the way the xp conversion works is this...

AA xp and normal xp have completely different scales, as a result the conversion from normal xp to AA xp doesn't happen on a 1 to 1 basis. Instead you have an invisible pool of converted xp and whenever this fills up it empties and you gain one point of AA experience.

So for an example it may take 100 points of normal experience to gain one point of AA experience (note - 1 experience point not 1%). If you are killing mobs that are giving 25 points of normal experience then you will only gain another point of AA experience every forth kill.

At very levels it doesn't take much AA xp to gain one AA. Judging by the granularity on the experience bar the first few take in the region of 10 AA xp per AA.

So in the example the first 3 kills would partially fill the invisible pool and not give you any visible increase in AA xp. The 4th kill would fill the pool and give you one point of AA xp, which might jump the bar by 10% since you would only need 10 AA xp for that AA.

Obviously as you gain more AA it becomes less pronounced since you start requiring more than 100 AA xp per AA point. And as you gain in levels you start killing mobs that fill up the pool in one go , and so you start gaining at least 1 AA xp point per kill.

Thank you Karelyn for the explaination, I was starting to suspect something like this last night. Can't say I'm happy with the way they've chosen to display it, but at least I've got an idea of what's going on now. Still feels like my AA grind is very slow for the levels I'm at tho.

I would think you would be getting more than 3%. ...but if you're vitality is depleted, that may be about right since it gives +200% xp. So that would be 9% if it was fresh...

One thing to note--grinding AAs is really only efficient when you've got a L90 char that's doing the killing. If you can't whack 10 even con'd mobs quickly on one pull, it's not the way to go. You would be much better to load up on quests and knock them out while your vitality replenishes (quest xp doesn't eat vitality, although the killing does somewhat).

Its just a display glitch. Its the same reason my XP bar can display having 101% XP toward the next level, or the vitality marker can show that I will run out of vitality at a point I've already passed. There are no "pools", it just doesn't always visually display XP progress accurately with low XP kills. This goes all the way back to EQ1.
