For quite awhie, I have been unable to create a new toon..well, sorta....

the first screen I see is this and it has already selected the class I am going to be and can not be changed by me. It's random, what it picks..this time brigand, the time before warlock. If I happened to NEED that class, goodie....but rarely is that the case. I have to make a toon on my husband's computer and then load it up on mine to play.

Any thoughts? I'm pretty sure my hubby sees something different at character select.

Gonna do a quick test on my end and in the meantime run through these instructions below.

You may want to make backups and then delete the following files and folders:

cache folder

eq2_recent.ini

eq2_default.ini

EverQuest2.exe

eq2.ini

As well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:

Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.ini

Stationname_characters.ini

To do this, please follow these directions:

1. First look for your EverQuest II directory. You can find the default directory in (for Windows XP): C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest II (for Windows Vista/7): C:Program DataSony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest II

2. Click on MY COMPUTER and then proceed into local disk C:

3. Navigate your way to the default directory, or your chosen installation directory.

4. Next look for any files explained above and delete them.

5. Afterwards, please start EverQuest II to have these files re-downloaded by the patcher.

If deleting these files does not resolve your issue, you can restore your backed up files and folders and retain your hotkeys, contact lists, and display settings.

Sorry, I've been away from the game for a bit. I tried this and it didn't change anything. I am still left with a broken charachter creation.

I cannot reproduce this in any way. I've tried many, many, things to no avail.

Let's make sure you are on our latest LaunchPad then we'll check it's logging.

If you are already using these launchpads, I still recommend reinstalling it. Finally, if your EQII game folder has a PAKS folder, I recommend using the FULL version at the linked website below. The Streaming version would be a new installation unless you already have an asset_cache folder.

[EQII] LaunchPad

OK, it occured to me that I needed to redo the steps above with this new launcher and it was successful. I now have a more normal character creation screen. YAY!!

Is it safe to put back in any of the deleted ui settings or should i jsut hunker down and redo my hot bars....maybe it's time to consider it a clean slate and move everything around

OK, shouldn't i have an eq2.ini file?

I want to add these lines to it so my add in's work:

cl_ui_skinname ProfitUIcl_ui_subdir UI/

but when I deleted it, it didn't make a new one. It made a new eq2 recent and defualt ini but not a plain ini.

I have done that and guess what I am back to character creation broken again But, I like my profitui and my eq2maps, so I'm gonna delete everything like above, create a new toon and then put the ui's back in until the next time I want to make a new toon...giggle. I use them way more then I make characters.

Yah, it's weird. I assume many people use it AND can make toons, but once I narrowed it down to that being the breaking point, I can't really bother this forums with my woes

The new launcher is nice, though and worth the query if only to get that.

If you are seeing that character creation screen you are not up to date with profit. Make sure you are using the profit updater...

http://www.eq2interface.com/downloa...tUIUpdater.html

...there.

If you are look in the left top and you will see an option for settings...click it...go to ui settings and highlight it...click reset all settings. This will clear any files you might have on ignore.

WARNING: If you have customized profit (tells in cures, etc.) make sure to back up your custom files first.

Silat

NB: to get the ProfitUI updater, go to http://updater.pala.de/ and download it from there. You'll need Java 6 installed before you do this. It should auto-install everything. And the ProfitUI standalone package on EQ2Interface falls severely behind the version on the updater.

As for eq2.ini, EQ2 itself doesn't require that file. You need it if you want to change the settings from the defaults, but if it's not there EQ2 just uses the defaults and doesn't try to recreate the file.

I do have the correct updater, but reinstalled again anyway, but sadly, the issue still remains. Once profit gets added back in, the character creation breaks. It's pretty clear this must be user error. I'm doing SOMETHING wrong, just don't know what. There were some ignored files when I reset it as suggested, so I really had hoped we were onto something

And the one you're showing looks like an older (pre-EQ2X) version. Check your UI/ProfitUI folder for the files eq2ui_loginscene.xml, eq2ui_charscene.xml, eq2ui_newcharcene.xml and eq2ui_newcharscene2.xml, delete them if they're present and check again. if character creation works, try the Profit updater and see if it tries to download them. If it does, check the About dialog for the updater for the version (mine's 1.991) and the Changelog for the date of the most recent updated files (mine shows June 12, 2011).

I found 2 of the 4 and deleted them (the middle two I didn't see). I was able to make a new character with the right screens.

Running updater makes it want to update this file:

eq2ui_loginscene.xml

My profit ui is 1.991 and the changelog says June 12th.

I did not yet update profit to see if taking that one file back would break it again.

PS. you guys are great troubleshooters!

I checked and Profit does have eq2ui_loginscene.xml, my setup's working fine so letting it redownload that file shouldn't break anything.

Thanks for all the help, everything is resolved. I allowed the patcher to download that one new file and my character creation is still working, yay!!!!!
