View Full Version : Coming Soon to EQII: Leapers and Gliders!

Later this month, we’ll be debuting two new types of mounts in EverQuest II.

Leaper mounts can jump up and forward in tremendous bounds before falling, moving at speeds similar to flying mounts. You can control how high you jump, and you can steer while jumping using the movement keys. Obviously, you don’t take falling damage when landing.

Gliders are similar to Leapers, but at any point in your jump, you can snap out your mount’s wings and begin gliding, using the movement keys to control direction, even being able to tip up and climb for a while before descending again. You can also fold your wings in to start plummeting downward, and snap them out again at a different altitude. Leapers require Level 30 to ride. Gliders require level 60. (And of course, Fliers still require Level 85.)

Mountain Saliraptor (Leaping)

Wind Komodo (Leaping)

Wind Komodo (Gliding)

love the Komodo Glider..

love it..

will it be appearance mountable for the gryphons..

the gryphons are great.. but i prefer this design

also will the antonican griffons be avail for questable release, there is a quest at the towers to get them another egg.. so why not be able to gather and hatch one of our own as part of a quest.. as a reward per se for gettign every tower a new egg !

the leaper, idk.. kinda jurasic parkish.. not impressed as i saw 2 headed speed gecko's over in eq1.. then chimera mounts.. an was like OMG>. then i found out there is now a tinkered spider mount .. why, just why thats almost 3 full steps from chocobo's and clockwork chicken mounts

there was a listing of rhino's an wargs being useable for lvls 1-29.. where at say lvl 25 can i quest for a warg and a rhino? maybe the newbie quest series that grants the 25% run speed mount like in GFay could be altered to give a horse in gfay an halas, while a rhino in TD and a warg like the guards ride in Darklight. to make your above statement true.

Doing that would give people a reason to go quest in the other starter zones and add more mounts to there stables.

just a thought

First of all I appreciate the creativity for this idea. It is creative. Fantastic work!

Second I like that its QUESTED

Third I like that is available for Crafters and Adventurers

Fourth I like that its available at different levels

While for me the choice of mounts is hit or miss in this selection, I enjoy the different locomotive methods and enjoy mounts that are NOT horses/wargs or flying disks. It also shows that SOE here is providing what they promised: new artwork mounts that are not all marketplace that are more accessible and that have some rather fun and different mechanics.

Bravo, art, coding, etc. (I don't mind marketplace and I buy stuff there often as I like it. But I comb forums and timelines for quests that drop house items, plushies and titles all the time, they're more special. Grind factions for recipes, craft for faction/items etc of all levels. Old content is not dead content for some of us.)

(P.S. Vampire bat mount, tinkered dirigibles or ballons or mechas, badgers, predatory birds, gliding squirrels, flying fish, manticores, leaping battle frogs ALL cool mount ideas! Keep up the creativity in art/quests/content its really making the game fun for me. Everyone should like toys.)

With regards to tradeskill quests in getting these mounts (since some of them are lower level), are they going to be made to scale (tradeskill level) with the player or are they going to to be low-level only?

Currently I'm a level 90 adventure and tradeskill. What I'd like is the ability to "chrono" my tradeskill level just as I can with adventure level. That way I could get all those quests and get some credit for completing them.

Does anyone know if this is even on the rader? Just a thought.

I do like these new mounts, but I would love to see existing creatures be mounts vs. just creating new species. How about a drakota mount, or one of the ostrich-looking things?
If Sony wants to make major in-game money, make a Dragon flying mount that fights and breathes fire. That would be the biggest seller for a mount they have ever seen. Dont believe me, ask the players, take a poll, I have been suggesting this for 6 years. Bet I will be right.

Love the idea; hate the appearance. Any way there will be appearance options for these mounts? The reptile thing doesn't do it for me for my characters.

Or, barring that, can we make it so these mounts don't appear, like we can do with our ground mounts? I usually prefer having my characters appear mount-less, for RP reasons. (And because I find the growling, drooling, howling, etc. a bit disturbing at times.) I know you will probably force us to not disappear them (like you do with the flying mounts), but in that case, can we please have appearance options that are quieter/gentler/smaller/etc.?

Nice. The concept of Leapers and Gliders is a welcome addition to the game for me. The level increments, IMO, are practical. Players do reach level 30 more briskly than the old days. Now I think the pictured mounts are innovative and outside of the box. I had previously suggested a Hulking Fire Beetle (or even those green ones) from the Commonlands.

Someone mentioned the Sokakor flying mount from Kunark. Many players had completed that quest for flying point-to-point. Ala the earlier Griffon. It also occurred to me that the Prowler might now qualify to be a Leaper. As a point of general interest would both or either mount be revisited to fit this new scheme of mounts?

Also, didn't I read somewhere that a player can use the Marketplace Pegasus mount as appearance at lower levels? (EDIT to add: Yes, just read the Marketplace Pegasus is level locked to 85 characters for purchase). If so, it wouldn't be as graceful but it could work in concert with these other mount types, wouldn't it?

The pegasus mount on marketplace can be used prior to level 85 but it will only work as a regular ground mount, like a regular horse, warg, prowler etc. Once you hit 85 thats when you can fly on it. In order for those under 85 to purchase it you have to make sure you have "hide unusable items" unchecked and then you will find it under the premium mounts section. This was noted by Amerys but guess not everyone reads posts like I do lol *shrug*

Well, this makes the vast majority of the game's existing ground mounts obsolete. Bloodstormz = <100% agree> Dragon mounts is exactly what we should be flying! Younger versions of dragons is what we should be leaping and gliding on while they mature, level with us and "train" to fly. Lizards, Dinosaurs, and Pegasusususes is just wrong on many levels.
Agree with a lot of sentiment here.

1.) Fix/Align the appearance mounts for the new types and open more appearance types for flying mounts (examples of normal carpets, disks, grifs & sokokar are perfect appearance for flying).

2.) The options for the new types are nice, but the current models suggested don't seem right to me. Would suggest thinks like drakota & the quetzanek (from Nektulos near N'Mar Ascent) would work well for glider types and as suggested prior alot of current mounts would work well as leapers (Wolves, Wargs, Prowlers).

3.) Lower pricing for normal ground mount and guild requirements. Most ground mounts are only useful for appearance now, being the quested and easily obtainable mounts are cheaper and/or better (70% run speed wolves for those that had their accounts active over Dec - Feb), so the requirements should lower for these. Most characters in their first 30 levels have little coin to put towards the mounts that are currently for sale and the higher guild level mounts are going to be completely pointless for anything other then appearance as well as outpriced in this new dynamic (not that they aren't now with the wolves, they are little more then expensive appearance mounts).

4.) The idea of varying mounts for the level 20ish newb mount for starter zones is a good one, perhaps a second option when collecting the quest (made purchasable after completing similar to what was done with the current newb mounts put in).

5.) MEATBEAST FTW, should definitely be a jumper if nothing else as an appearance mount, perhaps added for next Bristlebane day? Would be worth the wait.

Edit for spelling.

Any one know if we'll be able to use these mounts' abilities in places where we normally can't fly (cities, indoors, caves, etc.)?

Apparently it is something to do with a keybinding for disabling safefall, you have to have that and jump bound to the same key.

Another thing that could have been tested first and had adjustments made before it hit live.

All my ground mounts had speed increased except for my favorite one, the Hotwired Gnomish Hovercraft, it's still 65%

I logged into my swashbuckler, which I haven't done in ages, and felt like I was using some sort of speedhack with mounts hidden + 155% runspeed. Insane. I really enjoy the new mounts, although they make the griffon feel a lot more sluggish and slow.

Unfortunately, ground mounts no longer walk properly. They now use the galloping animation for walking as well.

The increased walking speed has also messed up guard patrols in Qeynos (and probably Freeport as well), because the mounted guards gallop away from their patrol group.

Didn't read through all the posts to see if this had already been suggested or not, but I think it would be nice to be able have a summon mount skill for each class of mount (Ground, Leaper, Glider, Flyer) and be able to preset a mount and appearance mount for each skill/type. This way we could more easily switch mounts on the fly as needed based on the circumstances.

Before the mount tab and saddle icon, we merely carried our whistles in a bag and just dragged the whistles to a hotbar. Someone correct me, but to my knowledge macroing doesn't offer an appearance command does it? It would be a long way around but might provide what Ripchi is suggesting.

Amnerys wrote:

The Leaper is nice in every way

The Glider nice looking but turns wayyyyyyyyyyyy to sharply for a keyboard and mouse at that sensitivity you have the Gliders turning at you would need an analog game controller like the ps3/xbox 360 have are you guys planing to add controller support for Everquest II

Also the Glider breaks game balance as it gives level 60 newbys better air speed then level 85 mounts by more then 50%

I also don't appreciate being lied to by the producer SmokeJumper he says In a straight race across the Commonlands, the Leapers and Gliders often win.
