Thinking of switching to Windows 7, 64-bit and I'm wondering how EQ2 runs on it.

Can anyone tell me if it runs EQ2 better than XP? Also, do I need to run the game in XP Compatability mode? Are there any common settings problems etc. I should make certain to address before running the game?

Thanks for any and all help! (edited to specify that it is 64-bit I'm considering).

Runs fine in my windows 7 professional 64 bit as administrator, no compatility mode. I had no issues loading and running it.

Only thing for me is a common dll eq2 uses for its web plugins isn't included in windows 7 and might have to be downloaded manually. Doesn't affect gameplay at all.

Thanks, Hisvet. I edited my OP to show it is 64-bit that I am considering. I appreciate the feedback.

Anyone else have anything to add?

I run occasionally on my husbands 64 bit system and it runs flawlessly there. In fact, I'm strongly considering updating my own due to how much better it runs on his machine. I don't know if its the OS or the simple fact that he runs the Nvidia equivalent to my ATI video card. I doubt its the card difference, as they are basically the same card with a different company name attached.

When I run a single box I'm grabbing Framrates in the 60+ range on High Quality and in the laughable 120+ range on High Performance.

I like Win7 while boxing becasue it seems to handle the affinity selection quite well, placing each boxed instance on its own CPU core.

I also like being able to set X-Mouse (Focus follows mouse) functionality from the control panel rather then running it through a script like in XP.

Tyvm, Nrgy and Gorpier. Are you running the game in XP Compatability Mode or...?

Just make sure you aren't trying to run with 2-3GB of RAM, since Win7 64bit takes nearly 2 GB by itself.

EDIT: No capability mode for me.

If I upgrade to Win7, 64 bit, I will up my existing 4 gigs (or whatever percentage of it XP recognizes) of RAM to 8 gigs...and eventually more.

I saw a slight performance boost upgrading to Win 7 64 bit from XP 32 bit. I don't run it in compatability mode and still have only 4 gigs of ram.

Family of 5 here, we all have windows 7 64bit, some are home editions other are ultimate. We have no problems here. I have another pc (for a total of 6 pc's with windows 7 64bit) that I 2 box on from time to time so no real problems to speak of. 2 machines have 4 gigs of ram, 3 have 8 gigs of ram and my main pc has 16 gigs of ram (use it for other things than just gaming).

Thanks to all who responded with answers. Everyone was very helpful.

I now am running EQ2 in Windows 7/64bit Professional from my new blazing fast OCZ Vertex 2, SATA II, 120 Gb Solid State Hard Drive and it is downright incredible how smoothly it runs. It runs smoother, faster and all-around better than XP ever ran EQ2 with my since fried 10k RPM Velociraptor.

Thanks again!
