Game ran fine prior to May 1. Once back I had all sorts of issues with launcher and patch. I totally deleted (uninstalled) anything and everything Sony with EQ2 including the EQ2Map, all launchers, Legends of Norrath and all files etc.

Once cleaned I reinstalled EQ2 using the latest installer launcher with a full install - not streaming.

I have an IMac 27" purchased last May. I use Windows 7 that has been upgraded to 64 bits and latest of DirectX, etc. The machine was just checked a month ago so it is clean.

My gaming window is on the IMac screen. I use a 21" Dell for secondary monitor to display browser, ventrilo and what ever else I need while playing EQ2.

After reinstalling EQ2 and EQ2Map, I entered the game and noted the map was now working. I arranged my Hotbars and other windows. I went to options under Display - advanced to correc the Color Correction gamma since the game tends to be a bit dark.

I also play in windowed mode to allow me to move my cursor from game to secondary monitor.

When I moved the Overall Gamma, it did NOT affect the game at all. However, it did change my secondary monitor as well as the brower I had opened.

I went into full screen mode and moved the Overall gamma and this time it affected just the game and not the secondary monitor; however, now I can no longer move my cursor from game to secondary monitor.

Then I moved the windowed game onto my secondary monitor. Once again I ran the test of changing the overall Gamma. Once again it affected the secondary monitor as well as the game. When I moved the windowed EQ2 back to the primary monitor, it immediately became darkish again even though I didn't change the setting.

I never had seen this before, so I don't know why the game options are affecting the secondary monitor and if there is anything that can be done to correct this while in windowed mode.

As a test, I also play RIFT, so I went into Rift game and when I changed settings similar, they only changed the game, not the secondary monitor. With WOW, I play that game using my MAC O/S. Once again I changed similar settings and it only affected the game, not the secondary monitor. In those other games, I also went back and forth between windowed setting and full screen as well as full screen window.

Kindly advise.

Because there is no response from any SoE Tekkie, do I take it that you have no idea why the options of changing gamma/lighting does not effect the game at all?

Does this mean if I want to play EQ2, I must do so with a darkened screen? I will try grouping tonite in SolEye and hopefully I can see the environment enough in order to tank. I haven't played much at all lately since this situation is causing eye strain and a slight headache.

I hope any SoE technician can respond one way or the other.

thank you

I do need more information from your system configuration to determine what may be causing this. I also need clarification regarding your Mac O/S and how you access this game. Are you playing this in a Windows virtual machine or is this PC windows based altogether?

Please post your DXDIAG information below. Also keep in mind that the 'latest' DirectX 11 does not affect this game. It utilizes DirectX 9 which runs concurrently with other DirectX versions but may not be installed by default on Vista or 7 machines. You can download the latest revision using the link below.

[DX9] June 2010

[EQII] Basic Troubleshooting: Creating dxdiag and updating drivers

Unfortunately much of what you write is a foreign language to me. Hopefully I'll be able to work through it all and provide what you need.

1. As for my Mac O/S - It is Mac OS X Version 10.6.7; Processor 2.8GHz Intel Core i7; Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

I guess this is the info on the Mac:

Model Name: iMac Model Identifier: iMac11,1 Processor Name: Intel Core i7 Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 8 MB Memory: 8 GB Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s Boot ROM Version: IM111.0034.B02 SMC Version (system): 1.54f36

2. When I wish to play EQ2, I change from the Mac O/S full edition to the Windows 7 full edition. As it was explained to me, there is so much space on a computer. In order for it to run both the Mac O/S and the Windows 7, this space is divided up into two portions. The Mac O/S which is called Snow Leopard plays in one portion and the Windows 7 plays in the other portion. I cannot play both at one time. When I want to switch, I just start or restart the IMac and hold down the ALT key. Then I get a screen that asks me if I want the Mac O/S or the Windows O/S. Then I choose the one I want and my Mac then starts up the O/S I chose.

It is a normal Windows 7 and looks and acts like Windows 7. As for it being virtual, this I have no clue. Aren't all programs virtual? At least that's how I know virtual to be. Anyway, once my Mac is operating the Windows 7, I can utiltize any program that operates using Windows 7. This includes my accounting program, Microsoft Word and other programs including several games. The games range from card playing games, Myst, Rhem, Rift and EverQuest 2. When I choose the Mac O/S, I can utiltize my layout program amoung others, and a few games including WoW. All those utilize the Mac O/S.

3. You speak of DXDIAG which I presume means diagnostic dialogue or somthing like that. I really don't know, but I see you have a link for me to follow. Since EverQuest2 runs using Windows 7, I presume you wish the information from the windows 7 part of my Mac.

However, I do have a question regarding the procedure. The instructions state:

"To create a DXDiag file:

1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard and R"

My questions is: What does the Windows key on my keyboard look like? My keyboard has the standard keys like Ctrl, Start, Alt, Shift, Caps lock, Tab, letters, numbers, arrow keys and a number pad. So, I'm sorry, I really don't know what a "Windows key" looks like. I don't see any key with a Windows logo on it.

If you can explain this to me, then I can continue on with the instructions you have given.

thank you

PS. When I played with my group last evening in SolEyE, my client crashed 3 times within 10 minutes. This is the first time I ever had this type of problem. And several times, the Frames per second bounced from 5-55, then would finally settle out the to around mid 30s. In SolEye, it was so difficult to see as the walls blended in with a number of MOBs and I couldn't see them. Our group worked it out and I followed another player who would target and pull the mob, then I'd pull the mob off the other player. Worked pretty good for a temporary fix. I could see the mobs that were "on fire" or stood in lighted areas, so I had no problems pulling and tanking them.

We can get around the Windows key

When you click the start button there should be a search box that appears. You can type the command directly there. A list will pop up sorted by category. Click on the dxdiag.exe that appears under the Programs category. You can move on past that step and move to saving the information to a text file.

When you paste the contents of that file here, make sure its just the top 3 sections System Information, Display Devices, and Sound Devices.

It almost sounds to me like overall gamma is affecting both screens because overall gamma affects your desktop gamma and not just the game. It doesn't work in windowed mode. Most games that run in windowed mode have their own gamma settings for the window. Overall gamma tends to use desktop gamma.

Unsure why there's not two separate setups here.

Since it's been a week since I've posted the required information that was asked, and no response - I'll assume:

1. There is nothing wrong with my computer

2. You have no idea what is causing the problems I've been experienced.

Right now, I just put all the torches and lights on as many as I can when I am in a dark area so I can discern pathways and mobs. Then when I go into a lighter area, I go into settings and turn everything off again. And when the FPS goes crazy, I just stop all movement for about 15-30 seconds until it stabilzes again, then resume play. I have also turned off anything and everything and lowered settings so I don't crash. Even so FPS drops from 40s & 50s down to 2, then pop up and down for a bit before it finally gets back to normal. It doesn't make the game pretty and play is limited. I'm glad I play with people who are very forgiving and patient with my ongoing EQ2 quirks.

And all this since SoE came back online mid May.

Thank you for all your assistance.

Our response times are delayed due to the large amount of requests coming in.

Service Pack 1 addressed similar issues in testing, could you get that updated and we'll see where we stand.

Well, I went to Windows 7 service pack 1 and it presented me with a list of 7 downloads. But what struck me strange was they all basically had things saying windows 6 point this or that. So it just didn't make sense to me to go backwards from Windows 7 to Windows 6.

Besides that, my geek friend already set me up for automatic updates.

I just sent mail to my geek friend about your request. I really don't want to mess up my computer as it runs nicely on all my games except EQ2. And I don't want to end up having everything else messed up.

EQ2 is barely playable and I'm doing everything I can so I can play, but I am becoming a very unhappy camper considering this has been going on since mid May when EQ2 restarted again.

My geek friend just left and he figured a work around.

EQ2 settings recognize the primary screen under windowed mode, not the secondary. In WIN7 one can place the two monitors in the display section with the primary as 1 and the secondary as 2.

However, this is where it gets wierd. If the primary is on the right and the secondary on the left, EQ2 recognizes the monitor on the right as being the secondary and the monitor on the left as being the main - the reverse of what windows says.

So, my friend switched and put the primary on the left and the secondary on the right. EQ2 now recognizes my primary on the left and the secondary on the right. So now, all options work as intended and I can float my gamma, brightness, contrast for the game as it should.

One problem. My primary monitor sits to the right of my secondary. So, in order to move my cursor over to my secondary screen, I have to move it to the right of my primary monitor and it's picked up on the left side of the secondary.

If I had the desk room, I would put the secondary to the right of the primary monitor and it would be a lot smoother in working the secondary monitor for vent, browser, game information, etc.

It definitely doesn't have anything to do with SP1. My friend installed it and once again, gamma/bright/contrast didn't effect game on the primary monitor, but only changed the secondary monitor.

Considering that the game was fine prior to May 1, and that I had to destroy all of EQ2 then reinstall the latest laucher - he said it's possible that all the settings that I had and were fine, had been reset, thus showing up the inconsistencies. The other thing he noted included I had only used one monitor until I purchased the Mac. After I had been playing EQ2 on my IMac, he added my Dell monitor for additional use. I don't recall changing any gamma/bright/contrast settings until recently with the new launcher. BTW, the IMac is a year old this month.

TBH, he also said, he couldn't tell if it was a game problem or a Windows 7 problem. We went to RIFT, but RIFT doesn't allow gamma setting in anything other than full screen mode; whereas EQ2 allows it in both windowed and full screen modes. My friend indicated this may be a reason it's a game problem with two monitors, hence RIFT limited the use of gamma to only full screen. With WOW, there is no problem either but then WOW is run on the Mac side, not WIN7 side. He also indicated he seriously doubt it is a video card problem since everything it so totally updated and functioning as intended in that regard.

At this point, I doubt EQ2 would bother limiting gamma settings to full screen mode only, but this is a work around the technical people can inform others who also experience the difficulty of changing gamma settings with two monitors.

It's taken me just about a few days short of a month to get all this figured out, but since I'm not a geek, I can only use non-geek logic for problem solving techniques.

I've been able to reproduce this here, we use dual monitor setups.

My primary monitor is on the right and the game gamma changes affect both screens for me. I've got it written up and reported and will provide updates as they come to me.

Great to hear even though what you replicated wasn't exactly my situaion. My game gamma/brightness/contrast changes only affected the secondary monitor, not my primary. However, at least yours did affect the secondary also.

I hope you'll find some sort of permanent fix. Right now I'm very much a split personality. When I play EQ2 or work in WIN7, I need to move cursor to the right of my primary monitor in order to get to my secondary monitor.

When I'm in the Mac O/S, it's normal. My cursor moves to the left of my primary monitor to get to my secondary monitor.

At least my friend was able to find a work around through WIN 7.

Makes for some fun times when playing the game, but at least my gamma/brightness/contrast now works in game and I have corrected it. I can now see clearly in dark places. Somehow, I may regret being able to see things I'd rather not see.

As it was explained to me, this "boot camp" puts on the computer a partition to house the Windows 7 and programs, files, etc. You can make it any size you wish. Then it allows you to go back and forth anytime you so desire between Snow Leopard and Windows 7.

It's like two computers in one. Boot camp kinds sits in the middle of it all giving me a window into both sides. I also backup both sides through the same program and external hard drive. I don't know all the details - it's kinda magic to me. heh!
