<p>The streaming launcher is problematic OR How I learned to hate walking the dinosaur</p><p>This is a rant, if you do not want to read a rant then hit that back button.</p><p>A while back I had an issue in EQ2 and the remedy I was directed to was that I needed to start using the streaming launcher. The other launchers were no longer supported. So I made the switch. Then the problems started.</p><p>Long story short, I keep having to delete the asset cache folder. I get on and play, taking 5-10 min to zone.. longer for things like first trips into a house or guild hall. After this gets old I log off and set the launcher to download content overnight. I have done this for other content and can easily pull down 3-4 Gig overnight. My DSL is slow but still works.</p><p>The next day I go to play and see that only about 1 gig was downloaded. But when I try to log in EQ starts to launch, goes to a black screen, and then goes unresponsive.</p><p>So my geek self thinks..hmm... what changed?</p><p>Why of course, I tried to add to the asset cache folder. Yep, rename that folder and after some time with the dinosaur I can get in just fine.</p><p>So what have we learned? That if anything goes wrong when downloading to the asset cache folder you are screwed. Only fix is to start from scratch. This game has like 18Gig of data, how many times do I need to end up downloading content?</p><p>What happened to scanning a folder of files, checking those files and fixing the damaged ones. You can't do this with the streaming launcher, it is all or nothing.</p><p>Very frustrating on top of all the other problems in the past few weeks.</p><p>OK /rant off</p>
