View Full Version : Forced Anti-Aliasing on Radeon Video Cards

I have been unable to get forced anti-aliasing to work on either a Radeon HD 5770 or a Radeon HD 6970, except when using morphological filtering in Catalyst (which I prefer not to do, since it makes it difficult to read fonts in-game). Has anyone been able to get this to work on any Radeon video cards using an 11.x version of Catalyst under Windows 7 x64?

I'm in the same boat as you, I'm unable to get AA working with a 6870 card and Win7 64bit.

Unfortunately, I've posted several times about this problem and reported it as a bug (over 6 months ago?) without any resolution or official comment.

Looking into the problem I think the issue seems to be that you cant "disable catalyst AI" in the newer drivers, the closest you can do is "High Quality" that reportedly does the same thing, although it clearly doesn’t by EQ2 standards.

You could try rolling back to an older driver before ATI made the change to Cat AI on your 5770 card and it may work but your plain out of luck with your 6970 as the older driver wont work which is the position I'm stuck in with my 6870.

Unless this gets fixed it means if you want working AA in the future the only upgrade path is Nvidia

We've received a variety of reports of issues with the later ATI drivers, and I am referring to all after 10.12. There is very little to be done when it comes to a driver based limitation but we'll do our best to always continue optimizing our system.

What you say about not being able to disable Catalyst AI is more than likely to be a majority of the issue.

I use Catalyst 11.5 and there is an option to disable Catalyst AI - I have no problems with forced AA.

In Catalyst 10.11 on the 3D page under the ALL tab there is an option to disable catalyst A.I.

Edit - Ah yes as the next poster said in the 10.xx you probably need to be in advaced view as well

Under tab "Gaming" there is an option to disable AI. You need to switch to "Advanced" view under "Preferences".

This is not an option in 11.5 either on Advanced or standard view. You're probably using an older version.

Edit: Disabling the AI is not an option even.

Lucky me.

Yea I guess it's still there on older cards then. That sucks I would love to have AA in the game. sigh.

Is there any chance that the developers might add in-game options for anti-aliasing, as opposed to requiring drivers to force it?

You can uninstall CCC and all that crap entirely - then use RadeonPro and make a profile for EQ2 - disabling Crossfire (AI) and forcing whatever AA you want without using Morphological and smearing pudding all along the screen.

FYI - Radeon HD 5770 will not render the ground in some Kingdom of the Sky maps until you turn off Shader 3.0.

DirectX11 is good...if it actually worked.

Just a heads up, MSAA has been implemented on the test server and my initial impression is that it works great, 2x, 4x and 8x are available. MSAA is quite intensive compared to other types of AA but is very high quality, with my 6870 8x is not really an option but 2x and 4x works well.

All I can say is yes! one very happy camper

GRAPHICS UPDATE

• Implemented MSAA option under Display > Performance.

• Note: Shader 3.0 must be enabled to use this feature.

There are many locations missing shader 3 models which I have been going through to document. We'll get those updated as quickly as we can as we come across them.

I'll personally be using MSAA 4x when it goes live as I always play with Shader 3. Only time shader 3 gets turned off is if I need to get to a location missing a shader 3 model, like Traks lair or the drednever crash site. I've been pushing to have those fixed asap.

Our fellow community members have said that the latest version drivers just released, 11.6, seems to have resolved that issue for them.
