Standing, fighting (Casting Spells) or just running through the zone, I keep getting client crashes. This was not happening prior to the hacking issue two weeks ago.

I have reloaded and updated. I am now using the older version of the launcher. I had reloaded / rebuilt my PC right before everything went down, utilizing the download from everquest2.com. I am hoping to have fixed this issue.

I'm getting pretty constant crashing as well, but it started out of the blue yesterday evening. I didn't change anything at all, no downloads, no settings; it just started happening. Sometimes it's right after the other & sometimes it will be an hour between. Sometimes it will give me an error & sometimes it will just 'stop working' & shut down. Here's the error it will sometimes give me (not always) & the DXDiag info you will eventually ask for (was using a previous driver, but updated drivers & the crashes still happened):

I do apologize for the response times. We have been backed up since we came online but we are nearly back up to date here.

First step here I do suggest moving to a recommend driver version for your ATI card. Our Knowledge Base does recommend a 9.x version driver but we have had the least reports with versions 10.12 and prior. However, this may not resolve the issue itself but it may be a contributing factor.

Next I do recommend opening a support ticket directly so that you can submit an MSINFO file. We can review your error reporting and identify any unique information that will help us lock down what is causing the issue for you.

I did go back to 10.12 but I am still getting crashes. The dx crash isn't happening anymore that I can tell (knock on wood) but I still get the other crashes & I am actually getting them a whole lot more now. I'm talking multiple times an hour... this is it:

Ok so now it's happening about every 5-10 minutes. Quite unplayable. Sometimes even quicker than that. Just stops working.

I've also been experiencing periodic crashes since the servers came back up, particularly when using the in-game browser or starting up from Launcher 3 (initial loading of cache often hangs at 80%). In nearly five years of playing (albeit with huge pauses), I've rarely had regular trouble. This is the most unstable I've ever seen the client, personally, far and away.

The game is taking *really* long to load after Launcher 3 has finished patching, and when/if the game does finally load, that irritating dinosaur shows up in the lower righthand corner almost every time, generally with a file size of around 48 MB.

Update on some things. I was curious what it could be so I completely reformatted & reinstalled windows 7, updated my drivers, installed only everquest 2 (and firefox), no addons, nothing at all. went into eq2, sat in thurg, not even 10 minutes went by & EQ2 crashed with the same stopped working error... sigh

I installed SP1 a bit ago & wasn't crashing until after EQ2 came back on line. When it comes down to it, if EQ2 is crashing because of normal Windows updating or normal drivers updating then I won't be playing EQ2 anymore. I'm not going to downgrade my system or drivers just to play one game out of the several that I do play (albiet EQ2 is my only MMO). Sad, yes, since I love the game so much, but one game is not worth crippling my others.

Edit: My issues actually started pretty randomly on the 16th when I had installed nothing new in a bit & had updated nothing. Just boom, suddenly, crashing & errors.... everywhere.

From the sound of the Sony response to suggestions on how to fix this, they know what thet problem is. Must do because so many people are having the same problem. Alsolots of people (including myself) have posted all the required info in a petition about the active X problem.

Can a Sony representative, specifically and 'unequivocally' explain what the active X problem that many are complaining about is due to. One person has suggested to me that it is a fundamental problem for anyone that has a motherboard that is limited, as aparently many are, to 4gigs of virtual memory - which the game aparently exceeds at times. If the game has been changed to require that, then Sony needs to let a lot of people know that they now need to upgrade thier computers, or put up with occassional active x crashes.

Can Sony please also either:

1. Post a simple set of easy to follow steps for us to resolve the problem, that is unlikely to cause us other game play problems, and/or

2. Let us know when Sony will be doing an ingame patch or fix that will resolve the issue.

Thanks

I have tried all the drivers from 9.2 to 11.5 which is what I am at now. I've also reinstalled Windows 7 twice & reinstalled EQ2 three times at this point. I'm pretty much done with EQ2 until there is something else I can try because I'm crashing upwards of 20-25 times a day, average, and I'm not going to go through it any more.

It's probably also worth noting that EQ2 is the only game crashing at all for me. All my steam games are working fine, I downloaded the Rift trial & no crashes there. I even loaded up WoW (brothers account tho) to see if I would crash & no, no crashing at all. Done memory tests, hardware testing... it's not an issue on my comp.

I've been getting the same problem since Live came back up after the downtime. Although my crashes are not as regular as Hannalynn its still very annoying. My Antialising doesn’t work either so there's clearly a problem with ATI compatibility (which has been going on for months now and is unresolved).

Overheating did occur to me too, so I removed the case, to check for dust accumulation / cables/ mice / orcs/ ect but nothing. Onboard heat monitoring shows normal range of operation.
I was running win 7 64 bit and had no problems till I deceided to install service pack 1.Now I have Directx9 error. Before installing sp1 I ran win 7 with all default drivers for my graphic and sound .No problems.

I have another computer with eq2 with Win Xp and can not get eq2 to run.Always get the ran out memory error after a few minuets in game and can find no fix for that. And I have spent weeks trying different drivers fresh install ect....have given up on that.

So reinstalled Win 7 64 and with no updates and running smooth with the exception of everytime I zone from eastern wastes to the great devide or vice a versa I end up in the ocean half way between the 2 zones. This has been happening for about 5 days and with all toons and was happening before I installed sp1 and got the directx error.

This game is so buggy and I have been playing since day 1.I love eq2 but support is almost non existant. They cant fix the memory leak under win xp.Evrytime they fix something they break something else.Lag is awful.I am about to go to RIFT as I can play it with no lag and no problems.Never a crash or a problem.

All I got to say is FIX IT SONY.
