View Full Version : Is Shader Model 3.0 ever going to work?

<p>With most current games running at least SM4.0 why is it so hard to get 3.0 to work?  Love playing this game with 5 year old textures.  I understand that the game isn't "current" but if they dont want me to switch to a "current" game then at least get the features you've introduced to work.</p>

<p>Here is an example. It's the Drednever Crash Site from The Bonemire. There are no ground textures using shader 3.0. The rest of the zone is fine and disabling shader 3.0 solves the problem.</p><p><img src="http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/3548/missingground.jpg" width="1113" height="790" /></p>

<p>The screen shot that Zarkan provided is exactly what I'm experiencing, too.  Looks fine in SL1, looks exactly what Zarkan sees in SL3.</p><p>Win7 64 Professional, nvidia 580, latest drivers.</p>

<p>what SOE needs to do is:1) disable Shader 3.0 in the game for now2) work on Shader 3.0 until its 100% perfected and not filled with the bugs it has. make it work right.3) then put Shader 3.0 back in the game and take out Shader 1.0. we dont need 2 Shaders in the game and any video card released in the past 6 years is capable of running Shader 3.0.</p><p>i do not run with Shader 3.0 because it just doesnt work right. some textures dont look the way theyre supposed to (especially with some armours), theres too many glitches and performance isnt as it should be. other thing i do not like is that my characters hair/eye (on my fae/arasai) come out different than on Shader 1.0. its so annoying that people who actually run with Shader 3.0 see them different then how they are supposed to look. at least if only one of the Shaders was present, i wouldnt have to deal with that.</p>

<p>As Rothgar stated, we are working on bugs as we can and as they are reported.  More information the better.</p><p>The Drednever crash site specifically is a known issue that is being worked on.  I gathered a great deal of information from you all when the huge thread about it was still up front.  Development is working diligently to get that hammered out.</p>

If the texture quality bothers you, and you already have them on max, then I can't suggest anything other than applying for a job in the art department at SoE and make new ones for them.</p>
