I'm new to EQ2, but not to MMORPGs, especially EQ. I read all of the class descriptions and I couldn't quite tell if this was the "crowd control" (aka - enchanter) class or not.

I'm solo'ing for the time being, but I'll be grouping with 2 friends soon.

I'm looking for any advice about the class (or if I'm way off about it being a crowd controll/brain buff class), and also any advice about AAs, spell combos, etc.

Thanks

If you're looking for an equivalent then the coercer class is more akin to the EQ1 enchanter as they don't have a permanent pet but have to charm or create a duplicate of a mob in the zone they're fighting in.

Thanks for the reply.

That's odd since the "class descriptions" cast the illusionist as the "master of crowd control." It's possible that I misread it so I think I'll go read it again.

Both sub-classes have 'crowd control' , power regen etc etc, coercers have more stuns if memory serves.

Illusionists buff mages , their permanent pet casts nukes mostly

Coercers buff melee classes and have 1 healer buff, their pets damage comes mostly from meleeing mobs , but is not permanent across zones/relogging and a new one needs to be possessed each time.

It's the pet creation that makes them the most akin to the EQ1 version.

It is the coercer that is the "master of domination" - not the Illy.

Thanks : )

so far DoV has been better than the previous expansion in regards to immune mobs with root stun mez which is nice but i still dont see enough of the " need a chanter for crowd control" that you may be aiming at from the eq1 days.

Yes, DOV has opened the door for more CC though it'll never be a requirement so as to avoid the "holy trinity" necessity to do anything (though two of those three typically still are! Oh well, heheh.)

I've had opportunities where mezzing was necessary to overcome a single healer group in a tough spot or a less than hardy tank. Some encounters are still easier to manage if you mez but root works too, or off-tank, etc, etc. It really depends on your group makeup.

Being and illusionist in SF was painful and many left the class and while there is still room for improvement DOV breathed new life and has made things a bit more fun again. Overall at the stage in the game I would take an illusionist over a coercer but I am a bit biased of course.

Some things I miss from being and enchanter in EQ1... my personal ward, a life saver to give time to either turn and mez or run, and pacify. Pacify allowed me to be an awesome puller in EQ1 something I miss a lot. Plus it allowed for some crafy travel and corpse pulls. I don't miss the c o n s t a n t tashing and slowing... that got old but was a key point in getting groups.
