Why is the medium of cron's chamber all shattered and embedded into the table? I know the tablets in the main room say that it is 'off limits' but is there a reason?

Unlike say the Medium if Iza's which is fine

if I remeber correctly, that's the Obelisk of Lost Souls. it's basically been all but abandoned and fallen into disrepair. it's not a 'anchor' they are actively looking to upkeep anymore, or put much effort into repair. probably becuase they have other, far more potent anchors already:

Munzok's bastion in LS

they've basically assimilated Kurns Tower

Obelisk of Blight

the anchors in Innothule, or which if you count the palace, there's 3.

so they have 6 other highly fortified, far more potent anchors. they probably lost the OoLS anchor to adventures/rending/shattering and simply decided to let it be/use as a distraction while the solidated/constructed the other 6.

exept that, the OoLS seems to have been a research facility that operated in other worlds aside from norrath, i dont think the Director that ran the place was intended to be anashti or theer when the zone was introduced.

Yeah I've always seemed to view OOLS as sort of a "scout ship for the invasion of the body snatchers" type thing. It was pretty independant from everything else relating to the void. As for the question as to why the one table is smashed but the other isnt..... who knows?

Well, I am asking because I have only found what I have found from a bit of poking around tonight. I looked at it as being some sort of place a vessel was being brought to and something went wrong and now it's offlimits because of it. But why?

When it comes to the Void, there's one thing guaranteed about it: The GREATEST QUESTIONS will never be answered, and the minor details that nobody would ever bother to notice, let alone question.... will never be noticed or questioned.

In other words, what you're asking is one of those details where they probably weren't thinking of an explanation behind every last little detail in the art design of the zone.

Hmm well maybe I don't understand eq2's art pipeline but it seems to me it would be the reverse of what you just said - they have spent man hours on that extra detail and even mentioned it in a dialogue when they wouldn't need to

Where in the art pipeline would the extra detail they added come in?

Step 1 - Lore writer creates an overall description of the zone

Step 2 - They hand it to the art team who creates concept art

Step 3 - Concept art + lore description is passed onto modeller, texture artist, animator and uvmapper *Freedom of creativity caused the extra detail on that room and those models here?*

Step 4 - The zone is assembled from art pieces

Step 5 - Npcs are created and added to spawngroups with lootables/factions etc

Step 6 - Zone quests and dialogues added *freedom of creativity caused the quest dialogue here?*

There are plenty of "Hey, lets add this in just for some different atmosphere from the norm" type details all over the game.

I've looked around for more info but i am still collecting books and such - i was wondering, how do I get to this scene?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voD7...tailpage#t=331s

"Welcome, travelers. You are daring to have ventured so far from your own lands…so far from your own world."

The Shadowed Man laughed. "I'm sure you will not be missed. Children of the Void, arise! We have secrets to keep."

It's been so long i'm not sure, but I don't think Venekor ever speaks in Cazic either, I could be wrong, my memory is kinda dim from that encounter in what... 6+ years ago now from the original raid content =P

Ah, Obelisk of Lost Souls, back when the Void and it's denizens were actually a scary thing. Thank you TSO for killing that.

There was an incredible attention to detail in OoLS that the TSO Void zones completely lacked. Hooray for huge empty rooms with the same lamp posts repeated over and over. OoLS actually looked like a functional fortress as opposed to a series of huge rooms that existed solely to house the things you were about to kill or run the scripts required for the boss fight.

I'd be willing to bet there was originally a reason it was demolished, but it simply never made it into the game text.
