View Full Version : Can't log on using launchpad

For some reason I can't enter the game.

I'm using the launchpad (streaming client). When I click the "Play" button, I get this error message:

- I have tried to log on, on 2 diff computers. I get the same error messages.

- I was able to log on without problems about 3-4 hours ago on both computers.

- I have tried to log on 2 different accounts, same problem.

- I have not used the computers for anything else, not installed or un-installed anything, during these past 3-4 hours.

- The path the error-message is refering to (E: ) is my DVD-drive for some reason.

Since nothing has changed client-side on either computer between the succesful and unsucesful log-ins, I feel pretty confident in saying the problem is not with my machine (re-boot, re-install, delete .ini-files, delete cache etc will not help). Any patches or updates been pushed out the last couple of hours?

I just checked the server side logging for your connection attempt and you are returning a 2048 error (which you should be able to see in your LaunchPad.log). This is a security block error. While I do not doubt that you did not change anything on your end, things can change without your interaction at all. Automatic updates, ISP changes, our own updates and client revisions, these can all affect your security software by invalidating any previously set exceptions as the executable has changed enough to be considered different. These are just ideas of what may be behind the error.

Double check your running firewalls, anti-virus, and security suite software. This is just a general step, you mention it occurs on another PC so I do believe the block starts in your router or within your ISP. If double checking all of your own configurations does not prove successful, I do have a test that can help us identify exactly where the block is occurring.

I need you to bring up a run dialog box. You can do this by pressing and holding the Windows key on your keyboard and tapping the R key.

In the box that pops up I need you to type cmd and press Enter (If you're using Windows Vista/7 press ctrl-shift-enter).

This is going to bring up an old “DOS box” don’t worry it’s just text.

You’ll need to type in the following commands one at a time. Remember to put spaces between all the words, unless there’s a special character like / or . in front of the word. Then you’ll want to keep that symbol and the word together.

If you’re having a lot of trouble you can also just copy and paste the text out of this email and into the DOS box.

These commands can take a while to run so please wait for the blinking cursor to appear since you won’t see any output to your screen. For the pathping commands you might even want to go grab some coffee, or a sandwich between lines.

So, all set? Here’s the commands:

ipconfig /all > c:eq2info.txt

tracert unrest.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt

tracert najena.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt

tracert befallen.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt

pathping unrest.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt

pathping najena.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt

pathping befallen.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt

If you’re curious what you’re saving for us, try the commands again but without the >’s or the stuff after them. Go ahead, I’ll wait… Pretty confusing huh? Don’t worry I speak gibberish fluently and can translate it for you.

Ok now that you’re done with that, you’ll have a file on your hard drive called “eq2info.txt”. If you go into your hard drive you’ll find it right in the main folder. To get there, just do that Windows key and R trick from earlier, and type C: and press enter. The file will be in there. Just send that file into me, I’ll translate it and figure out what happened to your connection, then I’ll let you know. No worries it’ll be pretty painless, but we might need you to contact another company if it’s not something on your computer that’s doing this.

I have this exact problem too, here are my details:

I was playing EQ2 fine for the last 5 days I was playing it about an hour ago. I just bought the DoV expansion through the take flight promotion, while my character was logged in to the game. I closed the game and now every time I try to load the game I get this message.

EverquestII has detected an unrecoverable error and must shutdown.

<verify> E:liveeq2gameclientsrcClientApp.cpp (3977):Failed to initialize [Removed for Content] system: error during initialization

(http://eq2.patch.station.sony.com/patch/eq2/assets/common/)00430d09 bc00001d

So far I have tried uninstalling the game and deleting all traces of it in C:UsersPublicSony Online Entertainment

I reinstalled using the latest streaming client (it has a DoV splash screen when I first start it)

It downloads about 68mb then says play. Every time I click play I get the above message.

My boyfriends pc also has eq2 installed on it. I know he logged into the game this morning and everything was fine. I asked him to try after I had this problem and he gets exactly the same message on his computer too.

Still unable to log in via patcher. Keep getting this message after about a minute: Sorry, there was an error initializing LaunchPad.Please make sure you are connected to the internet and try again.

When I bypass the patcher (I patched a few hours ago no problem), I can log on several of my characters, but not my main toon I need to play.

I am trying to login in and when I get the laucher it gives me the launcher window that says Everquest2 and have a nice outline/boarder but in the center it says SOE Sony Online Entertainment and goes no further. It doesn't give me an update option. Is there some way to update the launchpad or download a new version from the website?

Ok, I got mine to work using karsteinpus directions. The first time I did it, it didn't work but I think it was because I did not set the file as read only. When I set the file to read only and then tried it worked.

Hi

I just wanted to add, a friend of mine expierenced the same error afew days ago.

He also tried a clean install but nothing worked.

I tried to google the error for him and found this thread, but the forums were down at this time so I couldn't read the instructions that were posted here...

However, my friend found a way to solve this same problem for him in another way:

He said, he played on a Sony Vaio system and there were some processes running related to vaio. The one he named exctly was "vaiocare". After he killed that one process in the task manager he could once again patch and log in.

FYI we're playing on Euro server (Valor). Hope this helps some folks.

greetings

Thanks for that. Perhaps that particular application has a firewall or antivirus built in to it. I am not personally familiar with it.

I can play on Valor server successfuly if I directly start the everquest2.exe (lucky me, no streaming client installed).

When I try to patch with the LaunchPad v3 it will simply fail by telling me that login server cannot be reached.

Inside the Launchpad.log I see the following data_

**** Starting at Tue Apr 26 18:03:51 2011 with version 3.0.0.223 *****Error: WebApp: log( "Network Security Error: Error #2048 > LOGIN" )

When using wireshark I cann see that Launchpad communicated with the IP addresses 199.108.0.24 which is an IP inside a netblock owned by SOE (Sony Online Entertainment ATTENS-008419-001051 (NET-199-108-0-0-1) 199.108.0.0 - 199.108.15.255) and sometimes also with the IP 199.108.0.158

Yet I still only get a nice red letter message that the login servers are unavailable and I should try again later.

I am lucky that there has been no patch for the last few days, ans thus I was not faced with the typical client version mismatch yet ;)

Error #2048 is a client side security related block. Firewall, antivirus, locked game files, router needing configuration, or even a block beyond your local network but prior to reaching our servers.

Our login servers are not down, the game is highly populated with people coming in and out like normal. Since you can get to the game by bypassing the LaunchPad it is unlikely that its a port issue but the symptoms support a possible Firewall on the local computer itself blocking the LaunchPad.exe file. There are a few other common causes that have surfaced recently but I would start by disabling your firewall OR removing any previously set exceptions and re-adding them.

IE9 has an option in its advanced settings, under the security section, called Do Not Save Encrypted Pages to Disk. This option should NOT be checked. This option existed in previous IE versions but was not enabled by default. I do believe more recent installations of IE9 may be fixed but I would double check anyways.

Disable any proxy servers that may be enabled. You can do this from Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections Tab > LAN Settings > Uncheck everything under Proxy Server and hit OK.

Finally, clearing your cache and cookies may clear out any previously invalidated cached logins. Thats done from Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > General Tab > Click Delete under Browsing History > Make sure Temporary Internet Files and Cookies are checked and click Delete again.
