My warlock cannot cast attack spells on any mobs, everytime I try I get a "cannot see target" message even if Im standing right next to the target. Also when I talk to NPC's they disappear permenatly. All this started happening this morning. My account is over 1500 days old and I have never had this problem. Anyone else have this happen before?

What do I do, would hate to spend an entire day re-installing. Even did full file scan no problems, anti virus didnt find anything either......

Are you using any custom UI modifications? Those may also need to be updated through the mod maker. I have seen some UI modifications cause similar issues, specifically the cant see target part.

I would recommend reverting to the default UI as that could identify right away where the problem lies.

Removing a custom interface – EverQuest II:This is very similar to the method for EverQuest. The only difference is the file names. Character specific information is contained within the files _<charactername>_eq2_uisettings.ini which can also be modified to reflect changes in the UI when using a custom interface.

Open C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest IIUI

Delete any folders other than “default”

Delete all _<character name>_eq2_uisettings.ini files in the main EverQuest II folder

Or, you can delete the entire UI folder. But it’s size may mean a long download. Dialup users: you may want to take that into consideration.

If you still have the problem or you do not use a custom UI, you will need to reinstall the default UIcompletely:

Re-installing the default user interface - EverQuest II:

Open C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest II.

Delete the UI folder.

Delete all server_character_eq2_uisettings.ini files.

Delete the file Eq2.ini.

Re-patch and run a full file scan from the Download Options menu.

I did all your recomendations and didnt work. I deleted all things EQ2 from my computer and did a full re-install from the Retail version of DoV all updated and still have the problem. Thinking was a glitch with that toon I logged in with a diff toon and no problems UNTIL I got to nektulos docks and viola same targeting issue and same vanishing npc issue. I traveled to antonica, commonlands, willow wood, mage tower ruins....No issues except for Nectulos forest.

I'm stumped at what to do here....Any ideas?

So just the Nek docks? I'll see what I can reproduce, it could be an issue I was not aware of on our end.

I have no issue in nek forest myself atm, but I did hear of others with your kinds of issues in that same zone last week.

Perhaps it was/is:

Something that got addressed in today's patch?

Some (nek forest) zone file corruption on your computer?

Perhaps an issue affecting the asset cache under the streaming client (since I am having no issues with the older paks version)?

That's all I have for ideas.

Yes. I had just entered Nek from darklight wood yesterday, did some owlbear quest from a quest giver by the nek/darklight transition ( I think it was a heritage quest).

He gave me a second quest to kill undeads near nek castle and when i got near nek castle thats when i noticed the targeting issue, traveled to nek docks and then noticed the vanishing npc issue.

Have never had any issues like this since I started playing in '06, hope there is a fix.

I just did my tests about half an hour ago, after a full re-install this morning, so I dont think the patch this morning fixed it.

Is there anything I can do about the cache?

Heres how you clear your cache and configuration settings.

You may want to make backups and then delete the following files and folders:

cache folder

eq2_recent.ini

eq2_default.ini

EverQuest2.exe

eq2.ini

As well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:

Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.ini

Stationname_characters.ini

To do this, please follow these directions:

1. First look for your EverQuest II directory. You can find the default directory in (for Windows XP): C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest II (for Windows Vista/7): C:Program DataSony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest II

2. Click on MY COMPUTER and then proceed into local disk C:

3. Navigate your way to the default directory, or your chosen installation directory.

4. Next look for any files explained above and delete them.

5. Afterwards, please start EverQuest II to have these files re-downloaded by the patcher.

If deleting these files does not resolve your issue, you can restore your backed up files and folders and retain your hotkeys, contact lists, and display settings.

I'm not a TSR, so take my response in that context - I just recalled a couple of years ago having a zone issue that I tracked down to a corrupt zone/pak file on my end. If you ran a fresh install patching from the servers, that would have eliminated that problem on your end, meaning the issue lies elsewhere.
