Ever since Velious was released i have been crashing EVERYTIME i try and switch to a different toon. Sometimes i get it while just plain zoning...

The error message i get is:

"Critcal Error" - "Application ran out of memory when requesting 5592560 bytes (limit: 2048 MB, current: 864 MB)"

Then proceeds to crash me to desktop. I have never had any problems like this until Velious was released, and i know there is a few other members who it happens to sometimes.

I have also noticed that During raids while fighting a mob 1/2 of my raid force is booted to char select or to desktop, then come back in...

My system makeup is:

ASUS M4N78 Pro AM3/AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 8300 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard, Hybrid SLI, DirectX 10, TurboV, Turbo Key, DDR2 1200

AMD Phenom Quad Core Processor 9600 (2.3GHz) AM2+ (M/N: HDWCGDBOX)

OCZ Fatal1ty Dual Channel Kit 4 GB ( 2 x 2 GB ) Memory - DIMM 240-pin - 1066 MHz ( PC2-8500 ) OCZ2F10664GK - 2.05V EVP

PNY VCGGTS2505XPB XLR8 GTS 250 512MB PCIe 2.0 Graphic Card

Thermaltake W0319RU 850W ATX 12V 2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Hitachi 7K1000.B Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200RPM, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM

Can you post your DXDIAG information?

What version of Windows are you using and is it 32 or 64bit?

You may simply be running out of addressable space. 32 bit operating systems can only address up to 4GB of memory total, that includes RAM and Video memory, which you have in excess of 4GB. Windows will take almost 1GB to reserve for your hardware leaving you with about 3GB.

The locations you are visiting may be maxing you out. How does it perform if you turn the graphical settings down?

You are above the addressable memory limit and can still run in to situations where you run out of memory regardless but this should minimize, or even eliminate, a majority of the paths to running out of memory. I do recommend considering a 64 bit operating system as your hardware has outgrown the 32bit platform.

Where do i sign up for my free 64 bit OS ticket? Or even the Discounted 64bit OS that I basiclly need now for this game?

I'm not having an attitude so dont just blow me off i'm just being realistic, I have a 6month old daughter now, and i have been playing eq1 / eq2 for 12 yrs, now because i don't have extra cash for a new OS basiclly i have to play with less then even balanced graphics. Something just doesn't seem right about this.

You do not.

What you do need to do is make sure you are not exceeding the limitations of your current hardware or software, which you are.

If you were within the limitations of your Operating System you would never run in to a situation where your PC requests memory addresses beyond what it is capable of actually addressing. You are having out of memory errors and that is what is being addressed.

I'll do my best to outline it again.

Windows 32bit has 4GB of addressable memory space available. This means that no matter what the situation is, Windows can only address memory below the 4GB addressable space. Any memory over that space cannot be accessed by a 32bit Operating System.

Now back to your system. 4GB of RAM and 512 Video RAM. That is 512MB over the addressable space, meaning that no matter the situation you would never be able to address all 4.5GB of physical memory.

Your hardware will reserve almost 1GB for itself to ensure it never runs out of addressable space. This addressable space is reserved and will not be accessible for any other purpose but your hardware. That means you now have about 3GB of addressable space remaining and 4.5GB of physical memory that wants to use these addressable spaces.

EQII should be limited to 2GB due to the per application memory limitations so it will never request over 2GB but will have no problem filling up the 2GB it is alotted. That means fully loaded, EQII could potential leave Windows and the rest of your background applications with less than 1GB of addressable space to occupy. 1GB for Windows and all of your background applications? Out of memory issues seem much more possible looking at it like this.

Heres a write-up at Microsoft regarding the addressable space limitations per platform, a few MS supplied workarounds and suggestions as well. Keep in mind, physical memory includes your video memory along with your RAM.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...8(v=vs.85).aspx

This doesn't include situations where you have hit the addressable space limitations with 3+GB of RAM consumed but your video card is demanding addressable space...

I'm getting this same issue but only since EQ2 came back online after the hack. I've changed NOTHING in my system, no system settings, no game settings, nothing. Yet, I cannot log a new character or zone without having a 'critical error' out of usable memory message. I understand what you are saying about PAE's and usable memory, however, I'm running 1gb video ram, and 4gb of system ram and have NEVER had this issue before. Its new since the system went down. My question is, how do I fix it because that link tells you all kinds of stuff except how to fix it. Basically it says, "Go buy a 64 bit system" which i chould not have to do for a game that was not designed on a 64 bit system!
