I run the launcher and everything seems normal. Except when it's done checking the game for updates and the "Play" button usually appears, it says "Playing..." instead and doesn't change after that. How do I fix this?

This may be caused by security features blocking your connection to the game but it isn't the only cause. We'll cover the basics first and move on if necessary.

Disable any and all running firewalls, antivirus, or internet security software. Make sure you are launching the game as an admin by right-clicking the game icon and selecting Run as Admin. Finally, bypass your router and/or further configure the port forwarding feature to allow the game to connect. I've included a Knowledge Base article below outlining the port configurations needed.

Last note I'll add here is to also ensure that your video card drivers are fully up to date by visiting the manufacturers website (Nvidia - www.Nvidia.com or ATI - www.ATI.com)

[EQII] Firewall and Proxy Information for EverQuest II

When we do updates, it may change enough of the executable that any previously set exceptions may no longer apply. I would still double check your firewall and security software. However, this is not the only cause. I can see whats going on from our end I'll just need you to PM me your Station Name.

As the TSR hinted at, the most likely cause is a security app blocking the execution of the everquest2 executable by the Launcher. Temporarily disabling any security suites or apps that you have would allow you to quickly confirm if it was the case or not.
