ok so I have a 3 gig quad core processor with 6 gigs of ram and a 1 gig HD video card. I also have high speed internet of up to 22 mbps down and 5 mbps up. the issue that has brought me here is, when running EQ2 with nothing but windows stuff going in the background I find that I am using 4 gigs of memory (2 gigs to everquest2 exe) and no matter what graphics settings I use I cant seem to get over 35fps in game. 35 fps seems pretty low for my setup. I dont even bother turning on any shadows or flora. anyone have any idea why EQ2 seems to be straining my system so much ?

Edit: forgot to mention that I am running Windows 7 64bit

what video card are you using?

If it is a Nvidia make sure performance in the driver is set to best possible and not adaptive and not set to performance ofr multiple monitors - this is in the driver in the 3d settings. Check these settings everytime you upgrade the driver as they are reset to defaults

My card is an ATI radeon HD 5670 I will try the preformance settings on it

Performance settings didnt help in this case. still just getting around 35fps ... this is frustrating, if I drop my settings to low then I can to up to 60+fps but with my system I shouldnt need to go that low .... anuone else have any ideas why I have this issue?

I do not see 35FPS being unreasonable at all. This game is very CPU intensive and was designed with higher clock speeds in mind. Further optimizations occur with every update but 35FPS with a 3GHZ processor at the higher graphical settings is still very reasonable. Also, we do have multi-core support but not full support for all 4 cores.
