Since I realized last night that I wasn't actually sure what the body of water off the coast of Loping Plains is called -- Timorous Deep, I've now been informed -- I've spent a bit of time trying to find out more about the large bodies of water on our planet.

On Earth, we have five oceans, and many seas. How much do we now know about Norrath in this regard?

I found a post on this forum from Valen, dated 2006, in which he said,

"There are many oceans and seas on Norrath that have yet to be rediscovered by adventurers or even the FSTC. It will be quite some time until we visit these oceans to find if any changes have occurred on the surface or below the waves. But we do have a decent chart of the seas resting within the Shattered Lands.

"The Shattered Lands has numerous seas dividing its islands. Most of these seas were formed in the recent rending of Old Antonica, what the Shattered Lands used to be. Most of the waterways are dangerous for both the extreme conditions as well as the dangerous denizens that inhabit the water of the air of a given sea. Here are the known seas within the Shattered Lands as charted by the Far Seas Trading Company."

He then lists 14 seas. He doesn't say anything about larger bodies of water -- oceans.

I've never played EQ, so I don't know what Norrath was like then. Have adventurers traveled throughout and mapped all of the planet? Do we know how many oceans Norrath had before the rending, and their names?

Since 2006, adventurers have traveled far and made many discoveries. So, if we were to make a globe of Norrath today, how much of it could we fill in with regard to the oceans and seas? Also, would Timorous Deep and the Ocean of Tears, judging by their size, be considered oceans or seas?

P.S. We need, as a house item, a new, large, detailed and clearly readable map and/or globe showing what we know about Norrath at this time.

The Iceclad Ocean, and the Ocean of Tears, are the only *oceans* that come immediately to mind.

There is a globe from EQ Live that shows a very large (un-named) continent on the other side of the glode. To my knowledge there is absolutely NO information on it or what the waters around it are called.

NM. You found his post about the seas.

As for oceans... no, there is no detailed information, especially for the waters east of Faydwer and west of Odus, as Mary mentioned above.

I could swear that *somewhere* I remember a reference to the waters east of Faydwer as "The Sea of Dawn", but I simply can't find it anywhere. It was either in some developers response or in an NPC conversation, but it's gone from my memory now.

Maybe they got overly paranoid after watching "Sea of Dawn of the Dead" by the great director Gnome Romero, and figured better safe than sorry.

I wouldn't mind more open ocean zones with passing boats and skyships that go to random zones. I mean Some of the places Ocean of Tears Erud's Crossing Straits of 12 could be done with a Update rather then an expansion.

Make islands, add water, passing ships on fixed routes, minimal mobs, and lots of lore.
