While we have mysterious chronoportals popping up around Norrath, I offer the following friendly reminder of things learned the last time Norrathian adventurers mucked about with Time...

Zebuxoruk says ‘It is my fate to be punished for the endless eternities, for giving mortals the power you needed to save yourselves, to prevent the destruction of Norrath and the planar realities it touches. Your legacy will be to remember me, and to use the time you have gained to [prepare] for what is to come. Norrath cannot stand forever against its invaders.’

You say, ‘We will prepare’

Zebuxoruk says ‘Soon you will leave, and I will watch you go through the portal. Later, as the portal shimmers to show a different vista, I can see what I call the Thing’s Eye . . . something which waits for the right moment to strike. Perhaps when the [weave] of time becomes too weak, it will come.’

You say, ‘The weave?’

Zebuxoruk says ‘There are many curious creatures beyond the shattered shards of time. The Discordians are aware of some of them; some they even created, others they evicted from the worlds they struck. Others are completely foreign and beyond your vaguest appreciation. Watch for them. They will sweep aside the very foundations of Norrath in the cosmos, and they will destroy me and all the other gods. I have [foreseen] this. I have spent eternities gazing through the portals, looking upon impossible visions.’

You say, ‘What have you foreseen?’

Zebuxoruk says ‘When the timeline is weak enough, a new assault will come to Norrath. By then your powers will be so great that both past and future will be evacuated, their peoples to make a last stand in the Now. What a magnificent effort that shall be, though it will be utterly futile. At the moment of your greatest despair, look up and see the Alabaster Tower which shall offer your [salvation].’

You say, ‘Our salvation?’

Zebuxoruk says ‘You ask too much of me. I saw what I saw, but can offer no evidence. It is but another path among ruined timelines, perhaps one that will yet not be taken. Go now, and savor your victories. I shall wait here in endless timelessness, here with this forlorn tree, for your unwitting return.’

/tip of the hat to Lore of Norrath

I'm sure it'll be fiiiiiine. What's the worst that can happen? Just ask the time-locked enchantress in the SMR quest!

Yep. Just fine.

If you're worried that opening portals back to specifica instances in time will alter the course of history and allow for the Discordians and the Legion of Mura Matam to enter into our timeline... well. I don't know why you would be. You really think an anniversary event of EQ's birthday would significantly change the very fabric of time and alter the course of history for the entire future of Everquest 2?

Besides, it's not like any of the time portals have anything to do with anything even remotely related to Kunark, Velious, Luclin, Planes, or GoD. (The BL in South Ro excluded of course.)

Yeah, I know...but considering the other seeming 'fluff' that's come back to bite us lore-wise, can you blame me for being a touch concerned...?

Honestly, an issue like this never would have crossed my mind. If we really did go back in time, I'd be more concerned with people back then asking why that ranger is backstabbing his opponents, why that monk is crushing the monster's spine with complete disregard of the enemy, why that wizard is using poison and disease to clear away entire sections of the surroundings.... more importantly, why everyone is suddenly far more powerful with magically imbued combat arts that don't exist for the casual warrior back then.

I personally felt really sorry for the magicians who watched me kill quillmane infront of them, after only spending a minute or 2 in the zone. That was cruel, and explains why so many magicians had issues getting their cloak in eq1, people from eq2 were stealing them all. We're not very nice people.

Truthfully, I've been pondering this ever since putting the whole Mayong snarl to posts. It's not like we don't already know the timeline has serious gaps and tangles--my half-joke about the post-Planes 'reset' not working quite right starts to take rather disturbing tones, if you look at it that way...

Isn't when the world of Norrath starts messing around with "time" that somwhere, someplace, the true developement of the next EverQuest game begins? It sets up the timespans and changes to storyline...

Lorewise though, the world depicted by Next could be what you get when the whole timeline has to be reconstructed, but somebody (one hopes) actually insists on doing things a bit better (and hopefully more robustly!) than the post-Planes reboot.

But then, anything about a game that has yet to exist is just whistlin' in the wind...
