So there's a few reasons why you want a 6 second weapon over a 4 second one. As a general rule of thumb the slower the weapon the harder it hits, and the more top end dmg it does. The ideal weapons typically have a pretty decent spread from low - top end dmg. You can search 6 Sec Vs. 4 Sec and find the formula explaining this. I would but I'm at work on my android so I'm trying to keep it simple for you. Now pertaining to sk's : A. You cannot duel weild so sword and board is your bread and butter most of the time. Remember the slower the weapon the harder it hits.. B. In the shadows tree any Sk worth his/her salt will spend points in the one that increases weapon dmg for 1 handed weapons. So after you have that maxed refer back to A. (Note in alot of cases with points spent there your 1 handed can or will do almost or as much as a 2 handed in alot of cases. Again refer back to A.) C: as stated above 6 second does allow more spells to be cast between auto attacks. Edited for auto correct fail!

It does more damage per hit but of course it hits less often. Whether it does more damage over the course of a fight depends on the individual weapons comparitively but people who assume a 6 second weapon will do more damage even with a higher rating simply by virtue of the per hit numbers being bigger are frankly wrong. To reiterate, a 6 second weapon CAN do more damage than a 4 second, but it won't just by it's nature, take it on a case by case basis.

Hitting more often with quicker weapons can be better as it is more chances to proc various effects (like aoe auto's MA's, flurries). Also one of the bad things about a 6 second weapon is that fewer auto attacks mean you go through your ca's quicker. For an SK who always has something to cast this isn't a problem, but for my Brigand who usually gets reuse from an SK still simply runs out of spells as less time per fight is spent auto attacking. That is the main reason having 6 second scout weapons is asanine. I tried six second weapons on my brig and I lost significant dps even though my 6 second weapons were at the time better (including a higher rating) than my 4 second ones. That being said I am currently pumping points into reuse to give 6 second weapons another chance but I am fairly confident the result will be the same.

However, for an SK while I would still prefer a 4 second weapon I am currently using a 6 second because it is a superior example to my 4 second ones. Sk's can do six second weapons without giving up much. Take it on a case by case basis don't dismiss or choose any weapon based on its delay (as you don't have to worry about dual wielding).
