Sheesh, Kaitheel, put that whip down! Give us a chance to get Brewday finished on live before you put us back to work testing Bristlebane!

Some of the items I saw linked in the homeshow channel got me all excited last night! I'll be on tonight after work to check it all out!

Did it and loved it.

The new tradeskilled items are great. I loved the new quest, it's very funny. It brings back some long forgotten zones. Same thing can be said of the new red shinies, I assume we'll only have them during Bristlebane day?

Quest rewards are all very nice. I may be tempted to do ratical once more *hates this gob*

Problems:The pirate has way too many hit points. I was able to finish him because I'm a conjuror and could tap my pet for mana, destroy it for healing and so on. Average classes and average gear won't pur you past this mob, he's really really too hard.

If you LD in the pirate isle or ate after being wiped or any other reason, there is no way to come back in the zone (and no way to leave the zone, which does make sense). I think we should be able to re-do the boat ride if we went out.

The red shinies are mostly found in TS instances. Only one shiny is outside the instance but there are tons of "?" in the tradeskill areas. If it's intended that only one type of shiny can pop in the outer zones, there's no reason to have so many shinies poping there. 1 or 2 per zone, with the usual fast repop, should be enough.

Well, I must be a mental midget, because I ran in circles for over an hour and never found Captain Gnoggin. I eventually logged off in frustration.

Also, the capsized boat should be solid.

You ned to click on a rock above the little pool (middle of the map at the bottom). It's an old instance in Feerrott, the door is behind this rock.

This morning I checked all TS areas except NQ, and every red shiny (and there were many) was Dreak's Tin Spike. Something awry here?

Also, just curious, why does one of the rewards form Ratical have "Erollisi's Aura"?

Whilhelmina
03-14-2011, 07:28 AM

Ah, [Removed for Content], forgot to bug this charm. Yes, it says "Erollisi's Aura" instead of "Bristlebane's Aura".

I thought my clue above was clear. The shinies are the same in all open zones. To find the other part of the set, you'll have to go in the old underground tradeskill instances: Ironforge, Coalition or suburbs instances. It makes sense with the name of the collection items.

There are no red shinies in Haven--intentional? (yes, I'm checking on a toon with the earring)

The pirate needs a serious nerf. There's only 1 level between him and the other named but the difference in difficulty level is huge. I tried first with a newly level 52 brigand, spanking new Frostfell legendary throughout, mix of journeyman through master CAs and a full stack of level relevant poisons. This toon never has trouble with this sort of content without stacking stuff but here the best she could do was get him down to 61%. Over on copy I loaded up my mythed and raid geared level 90 warden using offensive stance. She took him down but it was a 5 minute fight and I had to work on the power levels even though she has the myth and is basically specced for power regen. Without the myth I guess she'd have been out of power by halfway through the fight. There's no way your average geared toon is going to get through this as it is, and given the way the access is set up, (which does make perfect sense when you see it), you pretty much have to ensure that any player can actually beat the fight. I also suspect that 50 is too high a number for the average Joe. It takes a while to collect that many with a reasonable dps output - I know it's going to be very slow going for my templar with her snail's pace killing speed. I'm not sure the attention span of the average player is going to survive it I'd also agree with dropping the number of shiny spawn points in the open zones. Seeing that many and only finding a single item does suggest a bug. Only having a few spots for the single item is more likely to hint at different places for the rest of the items. I can see the joke in only finding the 1 among hundreds sort of thing but I don't think that's how it's going to appear to the massed player base when it goes live. I can see one other problem here and I'm not sure how you could really handle this. Since the silly move to remove Qeynos and Freeport as starting cities we have a lot of new players that have never been anywhere near the old villages, let along their tradeskill instances. They are going to have a lot of trouble, first in getting the hint at where to go and secondly in actually finding these places. Chances are they don't even realise these places exist. Now I love the quest as it is but I'm a 6 year vet that loves the whole memories thing because I have those memories. I'm not really sure how it's going to go down with the newer players though.

Thanks for your help everyone!

I've got a few changes headed your way, via the usual QA route:

The "Totem of the Grand Prankster" no longer applies "Erollisi's Aura" when equipped.

The Pirate Captain is easier to defeat in battle, now.

Kelethin's version of "Fribbles's Fate" now says that Fribles was last seen southwest of Joleena's Restaurant Acorn Lift.

Players had left the pirate cove before completing the quest "Gnary a Joke to Tell" can now re-enter the zone in search of the jokeshop merchandise by speaking with Captain Gnoggin near the Enchanted Lands dock, once more.

Let me know of any other issues or feedback you have!

~Kaitheel

Gnary a Joke to Tell

1) Galan Jokepeddler's dialogue ends by telling you to find the Captain Gnoggin "at the end of the dock". He's actually on the shore though, not on the dock at all. Just a minor thing, but it had me a confused for a few moments.

2) The Hidden Cove - just wondering, can you make it possible to use mounts in there? It's quite a large area you're searching around.

3) None of the corpses of snakes and crocs I killed in the Hidden Cove despawned, they just stay there as corpses. That's not normal.

4) I'd agree with Tkia that 50 items might be a bit much. I didn't mind myself, but then I can 2-shot the chests/crates, and I don't have an army of alts to run through the event quests.

5) I searched for ages before giving up and having to ask other people for help on where to find the captain. I gave it a really good try.

I did think maybe he was in the boat cabin, but you can't jump on the boat which is a bit confusing (because then you can't search there). Why can't we get on the boat?

The thing is, I looked around the pool at least twice but never found the clickable wall. If you don't wave your mouse over it, you don't know it's there. I had people telling me "it's the entrance to the zone normally" - but you're not going to know that when you've never seen this zone before, grrr. An area trigger when you're standing in the pool might be nicer.

When it comes to using the bomb, that gives more of a clue what you're looking for. Then it makes sense to be trying to click on stones and walls and such to blow up.

6) The horse of a different color - erm, it's white? I understood from the name and description ("Summon a horse of a different color") that it was going to do something funky like appear as a different colour every time you summoned it. White, green, pink, blue... that would be a really good joke mount. Ok it's a pretty white horse mount, but I'm left feeling somewhat misled and disappointed. I only realised afterwards it's probably meant to be a sarcastic title on the item.

7) The horse of a different color doesn't turn into a house item like mounts usually do - can we have this added please?

The quest was generally fun, other than failing to spawn the captain (which was not so fun). The part on the boat looking for pirates was funny though.

Crafting: All of the recipes at the Work Bench are using the Sculpting skill. None of the items have the normal 25 rent status reduction on them.

All of the items appear fine when placed, including the collection reward and merchant tiles. I love the new dinnerware, it's going to be awesome for my Maj'Dul home!

edit: Just curious, why is the Thief's cup brass, but the bowl and plate golden? I still like them, don't get me wrong, but it seems like it slightly mismatches compared to the Jester's dinnerware set.

Update for you all!

Finding the pirate captain was a bit too obscure, so a change was made and should be noted in a future update:

There are now hints for players searching for the horrible Pirate Captain during the quest "Gnary a Joke to Tell" in the Hidden Cove.

I'll look into the rent status of the crafted items.

As for the Thief's cup brass, that's just the art that was available. As the art asset didn't look golden I figured naming it brass was more appropriate.

You are not allowed on the boat as the boat in the cove zone does not have appropriate collision to be a zone object. It was letting player characters on, but then not letting them off. It was a one way trap. I put invisible barriers to stop that from occurring.

The "Horse of a Different Color" should be changing colors randomly. We are trying to investigate the code issue that is halting this bit of magic.

If we get the horse color change working, we'll see about a house plushie version, too.

Thank you for your continued help!

~Kaitheel

There was a huge drop of difficulty for the pirate in the last patch (night between monday and thuesday). It's hard but can be done. I still mentored down for several of my badly geared chars to be on the safe side after having to kite him across the zone with my average geared 31 troubadour (finished with 2% health).

You may want to move the locked chest near the boat. As I /bugged it yesterday, the jokes are running behind your invisible wall if you kill the chest where it "stands" and can't be targetted behind it.

what else... ah yes: I LOVE the name of the named croc

The captain always spawns yellow at level +1 and the named croc is level. I thought that was intentional and it hasn't been a problem for any toons I've run through since he got his nerf. The bomb and exit seemed obvious to me after finding the clicky to spawn the captain. But in finding the clicky in the first place I did have the advantage of knowing the zone and being able to head to the exit to investigate it. And I really love the boat ride, Kaitheel, it's great to see that back again

A bit of an update for everyone,

The following changes have been made and are on their way to the Test servers and should be noted in a future update:

The Pirate Captain now spawns at the player level.

Many of the "Perfectly Serious Items to Craft II" have had their skill required and tradeskill station corrected.

We have not yet resolved the issue with the Horse of a Different Color.

Additionally, I just confirmed on Test that the Impossibly Rare Objects (Bristlebane Day collection items) are spawning in Antonica, Commonlands, and Greater Faydark. (Just keep in mind that these are large overlands and that the spawns may be mixed up and or covered up by Brewday ones, due to the two events being activated currently on the Test servers.)

Also, none of the "Perfectly Serious Items to Craft II" items have rent status reduction on them. This is consistant with previous Brewday & Bristlebane Day crafted items.

Thanks for the continued help!

~Kaitheel

Bomb to escape the cove you get from gnoggin can't be looted if you have greed or accept as your group looting option set in options. I have to change it to none to loot the heirloom lore item that blows up the rock Heirloom ??

Love the rewards for the riddle quests ! Would love to have a complete set that is useable. You place them in your house click on one of them and it randomly flops to a different side. Wouldnt that be the coolest ? You could make board games in your houses and halls you and your guildmates could play . Just a suggestion

Did the quest too (thanks Cloud for the ports) with no problems. At first I wasn't very happy of redoing last year quest (I don't like quests asking to travel around a lot) but with spires and druid ring in EL it's way easier than before.

I like the rewards but would love some nterractive (or not) plushies.

Don't know whether it's linked to a horse of a different colour or not, but a lot of the armoured horse mounts, and my Leafstrider Unicorn were no longer running.

They had totally lost their animations.
