UI bug? Something I'm doing? Help a crab out.

<p>Since the expansion launch I've been experiencing a strange issue when I try to link raid loot.  This problem seems to only happen when I'm linking items out of our raid chests. This happens to be a big problem considering I do raid loot...</p><p><a href="http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/2978/bugsw.jpg">http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/2978/bugsw.jpg</a></p><p>Have a look at the screenshot I've linked above. What happens is that when I attempt to link items from the loot window they get a second set of brackets when they appear in chat.  These brackets do not appear in my chat window before I press enter.  Something like this [[awesome loot]], instead of [awesome loot].  When you click on something I've linked instead of seeing the item I was trying to link you see the DoV raid shards that were also included in the chest.  This happens 99% of the time when I link gear. </p><p>I'm able to correctly link other items, my own gear for example, this seems to be a unique problem I experience just during raids (when I need it to work the most!).  Since the expansion launch I haven't really changed my UI.  But any pieces I did change I've deleted.  Still no change. </p><p>Now here is the tricky thing, if you have a look at my screenshot you'll note this problem spreading to another one of my guild mates.  As everyone was poking fun at my linking problem, and assisting my guild mates in actually seeing the items the bug spread to them!  ALL OF THEM.  The entire guild was unable to link a certain item because the double bracket bug was affecting them in the same exact way.  This has happened twice that I've noticed on different nights.  Once on our first or second raid night, and the screenshot example 2 days ago. Also of note is that once in a very rare while my link goes through just fine.  I've changed nothing in the way I link loot.  For whatever reason if I try to drag an item from the item icon to the chat window no link appears in the chat box.  I believe it's supposed to?  This has never worked for me.  So the way I do it is examine the item in the chest, and shift+click the items item.  This tosses it in chat. </p><p>So, has anyone experienced this at all?  Any ideas what could be happening or how to fix it?</p>

<p>Please make sure you have used the /bug command in game to report this as well.  I am not sure if we can troubleshoot something on your PC that would affect this issue.  But just to be thorough, I've included a simple walkthrough on how to clear your cache/ui settings which may affect this.</p><p><p>You may want to make backups and then delete the following files and folders:</p><p>cache folder</p><p>eq2_recent.ini</p><p>eq2_default.ini</p><p>EverQuest2.exe</p><p>eq2.ini</p><p>As well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:</p><p>Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.ini</p><p>Stationname_characters.ini</p><p>To do this, please follow these directions:</p><p>1. First look for your EverQuest II directory. You can find the default directory in (for Windows XP): C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest II (for Windows Vista/7): C:Program DataSony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest II</p><p>2. Click on MY COMPUTER and then proceed into local disk C:</p><p>3. Navigate your way to the default directory, or your chosen installation directory.</p><p>4. Next look for any files explained above and delete them. </p><p>5. Afterwards, please start EverQuest II to have these files re-downloaded by the patcher.</p><p>If deleting these files does not resolve your issue, you can restore your backed up files and folders and retain your hotkeys, contact lists, and display settings.</p></p>

<p>I did all of the things listed, still the same error.  Once tonight another member experienced the same error when linking something as well.  He normally can link ok, and I was able to link 1 or 2 items correctly.  What could cause me to have this problem 95% of the time, and another person only 1% of the time if it's not UI related?</p><p>Any more ideas?</p>

<p>I'll request more information on the linking process, perhaps there is more we can do, but I did report this issue.  Hopefully you have already /bugged it as well.</p>

<p>Any update on this?</p><p>I've now reinstalled eq completely. Tried looting on default, tried looting with a newly downloaded UI. I've been linking about of raid chests tonight with about 25% success rate in the loot being correctly linked.  75% of the time linking out of chests my items will still link as [[item]] and the link will show the blue raid shard instead of the item I wanted to link.</p><p>But if I attempt to link an item that I currently own, or that was already looted by somebody else (like in the guild events) I am able to link correctly.  This only happens with DoV items currently sitting inside a chest.</p><p>My PC is fully clear of virus' and spyware, drivers are up to date.  No unusual programs running in background.</p>

<p>I doubt it is something we can troubleshoot together as it isn't an isolated event.  Happens on my work PC and home PC and across most of my guild.   It's been reported and hopefully a fix can be pushed out sooner rather than later.</p>
