About a year and a half ago, I came to these forums for advice on which computer to buy. [Post] I ended up going with the advice of the tech-support red-names and have been very pleased. I have been playing most of the time on very high quality only having to switch to high quality or ballanced in SF raid zones.

Since Velious (or maybe the Crushbone/LDL merge - but I thought we got a new server... right??....) I've been lagging and crashing a lot. I crashed 5 times in 1 hour yesterday in THE HOLE. Another thing that might be related (maybe?) is the look of things... Okay, so things used to look really textured and rich on high quality:

Now, things are kind of flat and characters have this weird white outline:

These may be 2 (or hell, even 5) different issues, but if anyone can suggest anything to help the lag or get high quality back to high quality, please let me know. I have gone through Alt+O>Display>Performance, Rendering, Animation, Model Detail, all that stuff and messed with it, turning it up or down, trying different combinations and nothing's working.

Also, this is what my display looks like at PQs... and I still have about a 3 second lag time:

So, this is the computer I went with. Any advice is appreciated. The game used to look so beautiful and deep and rich on my computer. And it worked without a hiccup while doing so. Now, it does neither.

OH! I also did the stuff suggested in This Post and I checked for updates on my VC driver.

My apologies for not being clearer with my request but that is exactly what I needed

Could you give me a bit of a walkthrough of how the initial crash/lag occurs? Does it happen immediately or does it just happen after a certain amount of time? Is it instantly poor performance or does it seem to progressively get worse?

We did include an Advanced button in the display options recently, you might want to look over your settings in regards to the texture quality.

I have the [Basic] button at the top, so, I am in the advanced version. I have messed with texture quality, etc.

Lag/Crash - It usually plays out like this: I'm doing something that makes it inconvenient to crash (never just standing, it's when I'm solo-healing a hard encounter or running to get a shiney at the edge of a cliff) my screen turns black for a split second (not the same kind as when the display driver stops, I still have the EQ2 border - I play windowed) then returns, but everything is frozen. I guess it looks kind of like a DVD skipping when you know it's just about to freeze. This is the turning point, either I crash or it recovers and goes back to normal. There's not time limit on this, sometimes it's after an hour, sometimes after 7 (yes there are times I am on that long - sad face).

The other day in The Hole was a weird acception to the norm. I was just crashing without warning and it was several times in a row. One time I was running down the hallway and suddenly had the windows crash box, "The program has stopped responding..."

Something really weird that I noticed - I zoned into ring war during an event the other day and was on ballanced. Instead of switching to high performance "to cut down on lag", I left it. I hardly had any lag. I think this kind of lag is different because it seems to be population based, where the other is seemingly random.

I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with my priorities, but the white line outlining everyone is bothering me more than lag.

Don't feel alone, since Velious 80% of the computers of people I have talked to crash...most with an applications error where the application (eq2) ask for 5GB more memory and the system crashes. Mostly when zoning into houses or very common during PQs.Lots of people are ready to give up and join rift...at least there large amount of players fighting has been handled without systems crashing.

Yeah... it's getting pretty old - The constant lip-service and promises that are infinitely postponed. It seems the problem is server-side with no plans for repair.

It's sad - EQ2 seems to have good workers. The tech-support has always been helpful, when I call, my issues are quickly resolved, GMs are typically very accomodating and willing to help, maybe there just aren't enough of them; or maybe they're not given the means to accomplish what needs to be done... I don't know. I love the game, I'm just getting tired of the stuttering.
