I'm reinstalling EQII.

The discs I have are Everquest II The Complete Collection (bought in 2009 I think), however I've been reading on the boards that the launcher associated with the discs is being made out of date, and that people are being encourage to use the new launcher.

I'm also reading that many people seem to be having issues downloading files with the .gz extension that may be associated with the old launcher.

My question is this. I'm currently 7 GB into the download from using the discs. Should I abandon what I have incase I get all the way through and then get an installation, and go to the link for the new launchpad and start the 12 GB download afresh. Or, should I stick with it and hope for the best?

Advice would be appreciated, I don't want to get all the way through the download then have to reinstall.

I'd use the disks, and then patch the rest. This way you will get the old launcher thats now longer available, which might come in handy, when they frequently bust the launcher they now have.

But hey thats just me.

Also if you have any plans to dual box, the old launcher will come in handy for that also.

We won't force you to another Launcher as long as you can get the one you use to work.

But, the support for the older methods is very limited. I can provide some basic troubleshooting for them but I will suggest our latest LaunchPad as well. Use what works.

I eventually got to the end of my download and received an error on an .xml file which was worded somethingl like "cannot process the size of this file etc. etc.". It's the same common error many other people have complained about. I tried right clicking and running as administrator and deleting the lp_temp file and neither solution worked, I still got the error.

I'm about to download the new launchpad seeing as this is the only other option. However, I just noticed that there seem to be two instances of Everquest II loaded on my PC.

The first is:-

C:Program Files (x86)Sony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest II

and the second is:-

C:ProgramDataSony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest II

and when I run the new launcher exe, it tries to get me to install to yet a third location! :-

C:UsersPublicSony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest II

My question now is, which location should I choose? Should I delete the extra instance of Everquest II? I have no idea why this happened, I have only tried to install Everquest II once.

I am running Windows 7.

Advice once again would be appreciated.

I would definitely consolidate the folders and continue to use just the userpublic installation as that is associated with the newest launchpad.
